It's kind of surprising to me they included WITOY instead of WYLAW. I'd like to see the Captured version of WLAL instead of the Departure version. But definitely will be buying this one!

WYLAW is included on the more recent pressings of the original Greatest Hits

Hopefully ..some of these early versions will be of GR/SP together... :D

This is pretty shrewd by Sony. I think the fact that the Greatest Hits has outsold Eclipse over the last six weeks laid a bit of the groundwork for this.. Not even a single nod to Arrival either.

Any idea.. who at Sony , would have thought this up?

It would actually be the people at Columbia. Seeing as Escape has been on the Billboard charts along with the Greatest Hits for the last two months, it's a no brainer to capitalize on this. Even the Essential Journey has been moving a few copies since the summer began. Anything classic Journey is gold right now.

Was there a time in the last 30 years when it wasn't?

Between 1997 and 2000. Hence, the reason I said the band should have bought out Perry's rights at that time as the catalog was at it's lowest value ever.

Maybe Perry will finally be able to afford that hip surgery now. If he doesn't capitalize on this albums release, and use this opportunity to get his own album out there, I don't think it will ever see the light of day. GET OFF YOUR ASS PERRY!!! :?

I'm not understanding why WITOY is being included in this package.

Sony should have included "Higher Place" as the last track of disc 2 of the Essentials package. Arrival was Sony's and what a great way to promote it.

Hell, it might have helped sell a few more copies of Arrival.

Mr P would never sell his rights. Nevah! It would not surprise me if he wasn't involved in any Sony Legacy Project both Audio & Video.

i dont see the point in this, any fan has all these songs already, why spend 12 bucks to have another comp cd. Its gonna get as bad as Universal pimping KISS's 17 greatest hit packages.

They are for the casual fan..It won't sell anywhere near to GH1, but it sell some copies. Some folks didn't wanna shell out the $$ for Essential double disc package...for the casual fan, the price is right. And for me, who has everything they have ever put out, I'll buy it too, to add to my collection.

There is only one reason for this release.....profit. You're right it's pointless.

This is an excellent move. Escape was still on the Billboard 200 as of last week. The Greatest Hits moved 10,000 copies last week also.
There is a space out there that needs to be filled and Eclipse isn't doing it so why not capitalize on it if you're Sony? Was it all that long ago when Perry sent feelers about releasing some of the older stuff like DVDs and what not? The GH has to be nearing saturation, having something else to throw out there which won't cost Sony really any money to promote (Escape is proving that) is just smart business.

Bite your tongue. This release is good, only When I Think of You makes no sense. This Greatest Hits includes their best song, Little Girl. Hopefully, this will launch this song into the stars.

The way I read it, that was describing songs that were not included. But I've been on vacation all week and have drank enough to float a house boat. So my brain is pretty much mush right now.

Not included on the first release but now included on this disc is the way I read it.

While it's nice to see "Suzanne" finally getting some respect, the exclusion of "After All These Years" and "Higer Place" and "Remember Me" is a disgrace. As for WITOY, didn't Sony also inexplicably put "Baby I'm a Leaving You" on the Essential CD also?
