Tareq Salahi may want $17 million from Neal Schon and estranged wife Michaele Salahi -- but judging by their demeanor yesterday, all he'll be getting ... is laughed at.

As TMZ first reported, Tareq fired off a letter to the two ... threatening a lawsuit and demanding they cough up dough for humiliating him their torrid affair.

We spotted the new couple arriving into Dulles International for Michaele's first trip home since she ... left home. They laughed about Tareq's threats, with Neal saying, "I think some people need to get a grip and move on."

Possibly the only thing worse about human beings wallowing in the mud like pigs, is being entertained by it with TV shows and 'magazines' like this one. I'm not entertained by this story at all, and wish I didn't have to hear it anymore.

Look at Mejestic taking a stand against the proliferation of, in this case, pseudocelebrity fame whores. I love it.

I think it's bad for us, Rick. No doubt What Schon and this gal have done is shameful. But it is more shameful for us to be entertained by it, or for media to profit by it. I can tell you that if I were going through something as awful as all that, I would be in a lot of pain and confusion. Now I am no celebrity, but even if I were, why should people be talking about my personal life in that way, laughing, making sport of it? I think talking about this kind of behavior actually makes us worse people and not better people, that's all I'm saying. It is not because I want wear rose colored glasses about Neal Schon, or that I need to imagine he is an angel to enjoy his music, it is that I think we all have enough problems to work on (or even laugh at and mock if that's what we want) that there is really no need to look at anyone else. Back biting and gossip are ugly habits, and they don't become less so just because it is a celebrity.

I see no problem with us talking about it. Neal himself seems to have embraced his status as a bit of celebrity because of the notoriety of the situation. Schon has been very public about this relationship and dare say even used it as a bit of promo over the last few months.

Of course, if people don't want to read about it, they can simply ignore the links or even go over to Arnel's personal site where the censorship gods have laid down the law over this subject.


Conservations here about Neal's latest fling has been very tame for the most part. I mean, we've had posts calling these guys homos and assholes numerous times. There's nothing here that's any worse than has been posted about other band news over the years.

If anything, the talk has put the spotlight back on Neal where it belongs as it his band after all.

As far as other stuff being tossed about, I don't think anyone comes to this specific forum to post with the intent of being graded as a good/bad person. There are other arenas to debate the merits of our own shortcomings, like the forum immediately above this one for a start.

I guess I am being philosophical, Don, and lamenting the existence of trash mags in general, because I don't think they are harmless, and I don't think they make us better people. There is a saying about gossip: "When Peter talks about Paul, you know more about Peter than Paul."

I acknowledge that there are lots of people who are comfortable having all of their personal lives in the public eye and seem "fine" with it. I think they are actually rare, however, and I don't think most celebrity actually want or invite everyone into their divorces and personal failings. Some people want to be famous for being famous, this is true, but if you think about it, there are probably some personal issues there, so it isn't actually funny.

There will always be the Jerry Springer Shows, and I'm a realist about that. But I guess my point is this: Just because there are some unfortunate individuals who don't mind using the toilet on prime time TV, doesn't mean we have to oblige them and watch it. Some people get in trouble and forget their own human dignity; that doesn't mean we should also forget ours.

I can understand it bothering you but when I see a thread title giving away its subject manner like this one, I just make the decision to pass over it if it's something that I know I wont be interested in. There are quite a few threads on these boards that people just ignore because they don't care for the topic, a lot of mine included. I would never ask anyone not to contribute a thread though, just because I don't like or have an interest in what they saying.
Well... maybe all those gay birthday threads but that's it.

Seriously, lots of people love gossip and these boards may be the only place they can say things or have an audience for their thoughts outside of their normal lives. Just like the newspaper, if the headline isn't something we want to read, just go past it to the next story. There's a big industry built around this kind of stuff and while some may feel the need not to oblige it, we shouldn't necessarily censor others who want to.

I'm with you. I actually only came in the thread to talk philosophy with ya though, since the Journey news is lacking.

I haven't talked about Schon and his girl, haven't followed the news, haven't took part in the threads about it or read much of them. To me it's not interesting. The broader ethical conversation is interesting though, at least to me, so that's why I brought it up. Sorry if I've hi-jacked the thread....back to the filth ye swine!

What's this clown trying to allege? Intentional infliction of emotional distress? Good luck there buddy. Generally, there's no legal right to be insulated from humiliation, public or otherwise (with the exception of sexual harassment in the workplace etc).

Now, if you marry an apparent gold digger, I don't know how you prove there was ever any affection in the first place, but they were/are married...so, there it is. At least it's something. I thought all the quotes were that Journey would be on tour for the better part of two years. I was expecting a second leg of the tour come early spring. Is that out of the picture with the poor sales numbers for Eclipse?

Right now it sounds like they will hit Stateside but Asian Leg looks like it may have been canceled and Europe (if it happens) may be limited to Festivals. When I said the tour is over in the above context, I was talking about the band not touring right at this moment.

I mean, it's almost as if there's some huge virtual chunk of cash out there, that everyone wants a piece of, no? And no matter what makes sense, they're able to file lawsuit - not even expecting to get it all, but get at least a piece of it - and still maintain their wealthy/celebrity status.

I mean, whatever is going on personally/emotionally, doesn't matter because they've committed themselves to the public interest. And so, there's no shame, no real embarrassment, no lack of personal loss...these types just quasi-legally lay claim to another's money in the name of 'saving face'. When in fact, they've already embarrassed themselves to no end, by simply putting their existence before the cameras.

And maybe in this case, he's simply trying to get a few bucks to supersede his own problems/bankruptcy. In other words, he may not care about his once-wife leaving him. He's only trying to rake-in a little cash to help his own cause. However, he's using the opportunity to grab some of Journey's/NS' cash to pay his bills...bills he'd have had regardless of his marital bliss, or there lack of.

I think it'd be very interesting to know what the exact value of $17 million really is. I mean, is she worth that much to him (and how?), in whatever form, or is this a partial number, that he pulled out his arse, just to pay some bills.

Agreed totally. Just a money grab. What was it someone suggested? Alienation of affection? I'm sure it was posted just to say there is such a thing, but that's really a basis for a lawsuit? UFB!

Yep, not here to decide marital blame...however, if one spouse isn't taking-care-of the other...however mutually agreed...then perhaps, they have grounds.

But still the major-money thing kills me. How can this guy claim $17Mil against her & Schon? And if you think about it, Schon better get his s#it in gear too. Just how much is she worth? Again, is this guy just going after Journey money? Is he seeking judgment again Schon, or her? Perhaps, Schon should delay marriage until this legal crap is done.

Well, not just saying this because of the Journey forum, but NS is just riding the train howsoever he sees fit. She may be a gold digger, and he may not care. But I do think that her soon-to-be-ex, is simply trying to grab some of the Journey cash. It is what it is. He's in dire financial straights, and she bailed. He needs to capitalize on it by claiming some sort of emotional distress, but more so, to tie it all up in the courts. He obviously has no other smarts to build a business, so he feels he must lay claim, publicly, to someone else's money.

He's a short-lived jerk. She's not much better. However, Neal Schon will survive greatly. And as long as NS is currently happy, then Journey is happy too. Again, it is what it is.
