Leslie Satcher, Marv Green and Jonathan Cain play at High Hopes fundraiser.

High Hopes’ Strings and Stories took on a new look this year as about 150 people were treated to the organization’s annual fundraiser at a lofty venue – Wedding 101 at the Factory at Franklin. With small intimate settings at tables and overstuffed chairs and sofas, guests were not only treated to tasty delights provided by Amerigo’s and Gigi’s and beverages from Del Rio Wine & Spirits and Frothy Monkey Coffee House, but the sounds of some great music.

The night kicked off with the identical twin duo of Kate and Kacey Coppola, whose angelic country harmonies and boot-stomping lyrics set the tone for the night. They were followed by a trio of singer/songwriters who singularly would have been a special treat, but combined were a show not to be missed.

Leslie Satcher, whose credits include the recent Kellie Pickler hit “Tough” and George Jones’ “Troubador” which she wrote with Monte Holmes gave new meaning to Southern Rock as she belted out a number of songs she has written. Her rendition of the song she wrote and Martina McBride recorded “When God-Fearing women get the blues” was instantly recognized by the crowd as acknowledged by their rousing applause. Southern California-born Marv Green moved to Nashville several years ago, but has learned the language of country music like he was born here. He performed songs he’s written including: “Wasted” better known as a hit by Carrie Underwood and Rodney Atkins’ “Farmer’s Daughter.”

They were joined by Journey’s Jonathan Cain, who told stories of writing songs with the band’s famous frontman Steve Perry. Cain gave his rendition of “Open Arms” and “Don’t’ Stop Believin’”

The annual fundraiser is helping to kick off High Hopes building project. High Hopes Inc. is an inclusive preschool and physical therapy organization.

The one guy that still has his head on straight and at least still has some morals and values in Journey. Cain and Perry were the glue in that band, while Neil was the "reckless" one.

I think the last person Cain wants to mention right now is Schon. Once you do, odds are She will be brought into the conservation also.

Jon and his wife are wonderful people. Very family oriented. I appreciate someone who is in the limelight in a good way.

Except he went along with their latest stupid video...

And from what I just read..he pretty much wrote the song himself. WT

If so, he's to be commended. Resonate is the strongest song on an album full of winners and one of the catchiest and most badass songs this band has ever produced.

That said, I'm listening to a few of the live boots on Youtube and I'm now in the boat of people that says Neal's shredding has gotten entirely out of hand.

Commended for the song. Not the going along with the asinine video. Great gift. No balls.

Something tells me he didn't really have a choice. I have a really hard time believing he would be all for a video that borders on soft-core porn. Neal and his blond bimbo wouldn't admit that everybody thought it was crap and I suspect the rest of the band had no input on the contents of that video.

Maybe Neal mistook Jon's dumbfounded silence as consent?

Initially, I thought they were going to try and release the song to radio now too but there doesn't seem to be any indication whatsoever of that happening. When The Today show host said something about the song coming out seven months ago, Neal didn't correct her and talk about Resonate being a new release. Of course, Michaele seemed to have him on a short leash so maybe he was afraid to say anything while on that couch.

Neal looked like a chump sitting on the couch saying nada.

Knowing Jon as we do as being a family-oriented guy, hard to believe he supports the contents of that video.

I watching it once and have no desire to watch it again. The make-out sessions are totally unnecessary.

Journey plays benefit for Franklin Road Academy at TPAC

Fans that caught Journey in concert with Foreigner last fall at Bridgestone Arena have the opportunity to get much closer to the “Any Way You Want It” singers next Friday (Feb. 24) when the band plays a benefit concert for Franklin Road Academy at Tennessee Performing Arts Center.

Jonathan Cain, keyboardist for the group, lives in Brentwood and his 15-year-old twins attend the school.

“It’s a good place and they’ve been really great to my kids,” Cain says. “It’s one of the reasons we moved here, really. We liked the school and we liked the community and the feeling down here.”

But Cain says that’s where his promotion of the school stops. He says fans that come out to Journey’s TPAC show will get with standard 90-minute hit parade free of further requests for money.

“It will be an intimate evening for sure,” he says. “We’ll be doing everyone’s favorites, similar to what we did at Bridgestone. There’ll be no propaganda. We’re not going to get up there and squeeze people for money. It’s an evening of rock ‘n roll and a celebration of our music. It’s kind of cool that way.”

The Cain family moved to Middle Tennessee about three-and-a-half years ago, and Cain says this is just one of the ways they are integrating themselves into the community. He’s also building a full-fledged commercial recording facility in Berry Hill, Addiction Sound Studios, that’s set to have a grand opening in March.

“I thought it was time to make a footprint here,” Cain says. “I suppose that down the road we’ll do a Journey album here. It’s been a good move for me and my family.”

Journey will play TPAC’s Jackson Hall 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24. Tickets are $87.50-$152.50 and are available at www.tpac.org or by calling 782-4040.

Well I might have to see this one. What about the Crossroads event?

Also, good that Cain hasn't ruled out a new album.
