Everybody knows there are gazillions of Journey fans who reject Journey without Steve Perry. But I wonder if back in 1981 when when Jonathan Cain joined Journey, if there were any fans who rejected Journey without Gregg Rolie? Gregg Rolie was a major part of Journey from their start. There must be some fans who only like Journey with Gregg Rolie.

Not sure about post Departure, but I know there were "a lot" of fans who rejected Journey when Perry joined.

I knew such a person who rejected Journey when Perry joined. He said, I'm finished with Journey now that they brought that faggot to sing. Well, he was wrong and it took a few years, but he became a fan again.

Were there any fans who rejected Journey when George Tickner left the band?

It all went downhill after Andy Avery left.

I really don't think the band has yet seen the kind of backlash that will occur when Travis leaves.

Wasn't his name Neal Schon?

I would say so. Over the years, I've read online comments from fans who rejected the band when they left their jam band roots and became more radio friendly. Similarly, I have heard of fans who thought Cain ruined the band and made it too pop oriented. Numerous fans also bailed when they replaced Perry with Augeri (many of them spewed their opinion on this very site and VH1 forums etc). Things seemed to have settled down now.

I was young enough that I discovered Journey when Escape came out. I was in college when they went on hiatus, then I discovered their best work, from 77-80. Infinity, Evolution, Departure and "The Party's Over" from Captured are their best work IMO.
