49ers Performance Analyzed - Wings of Pegasus

Youtuber Fil, of the "Wings of Pegasus" channel, (who previously tackled allegations of Arnel auto-tune usage), has now analyzed the recent "live" 49ers performance by Neal and members of Journey. His conclusion? Deen's lead vox is auto-tuned and pre-recorded. He questions Neal's playing as well.

Disappointing that they can't leave the autotune alone... Who knows what will be live on the upcoming tour. Maybe this explains why they're able to pull off such a dense schedule.

He seemed pained to have to report his conclusion, offering compliments to Deen for his talent and seems to have respect for the band. I'm guessing the stadium requires this.

Question: Would you rather hear and see a concert with some "help" for the band, hear and see a concert that sounds like crap with no help, or... have no concert at all? That's what we have to decide these days. I'd rather see a show with some assistance...but that's me.

To demand the excellence that some seem to be demanded these days does not seem reasonable.

Yeah. In my opinion, no young and healthy singers should ever be using autotune. And even if it's a singer who is way past his prime, like say Steve Perry for example, it should be made public by the singer/band themselves that it's being used. But I'm not entirely opposed to an old worn out singer like Steve Perry, for example, to use autotune. I'd rather hear Perry, Pineda, or anyone else who's loosing their voice due to age and constant wear-and-tear use autotune to sound good, than for them to sound like absolute shit live in concert. However. In general. None of the members of Journey who are playing instruments like guitars, bass, keyboards, drums, should ever be miming along to recordings of their playing. With the exception of where TV shows require it.

I’d rather see the warts

Wow, I saw this on my feed but did not realize it was about Journey so I did not watch it.

So, according to Fin - in his opinion:
Deen's vocal is not live and is heavily tuned.
Neal's guitar is not live.
Deen's drums are not live.
He could not see Todd's bass playing to analyze it.

This is crazy...it seems the entire band is playing and singing to prerecorded music. I have to wonder how long this has been going on. The other analysis with Arnel and Jonathan introducing the band while auto tuned was a few years old. How old was the video Fil showed where he said Deen was singing live?

It was JTT, so that would have been 2018.

Fil added another video detailing Neal's performance and countering all the claims in the comments that Neal was playing live:

Not sure why he's wasting his time on this one - aside from the obvious reason (clicks and views). Of course Neal will have loyal defenders.

I know you sent him Augeri tapegate stuff and he never covered it. I emailed him about a country singer on a farewell tour who is lip-syncing every night. He didn't cover it. He should cover Frankie Valli, who has been going viral for his obvious fakery. I guess Fil only wants to cover rock stars.

Most performers are not "live" in events like this. In some cases it may be just the vocalist or no one. When Styx did Queens We Will Rock You/We are The Champions, Shaw admitted such for their performance, and even uploaded the song they "played and sang" to. I have a copy of it, Gowan was the singer

Had forgotten about this piece. Interesting perspective.

I could certainly understand if you were frustrated with the artists faking it but all Fil is doing is reporting on it with a balanced approach?

But why does he "have" to report it at all? It seems like it's about hits on his videos more than anything.

I liked a lot of his videos in the past. But move on already from all of the "analysis" videos that are intended to "expose" bands.

I guess the same question can be asked when it comes to any investigative journalism. To get to the truth of the matter.

Fil didn't come onto my radar until the analysis videos. What did he do previously? More like Rick Beato? It's hard to develop and attain a YT following so I can't imagine him dropping it now.

This just isn't true. He exposed the "Kid Rock" Turning Point/alternate Superbowl halftime show controversy which said he was lip synching, as being not true...there is just a second vocalist doing a call/response. He did an analysis on Def Leppard and showed Joe Elliot does NOT lip synch and explained his various vocal techniques and why it helps maintain his voice. He reviewed Tommy Shaw's solo performance at the CYO to not only commend Tommy but to talk about the CYO and their performance as well.

The very basic answer to why the second video was made is that he reads the comments to his videos and replies to them. Sometimes that is in the comments section itself...and in this case there were a lot excuses being made for Neal so he made another video about it.

It's tough to swallow but this performance was all canned. It was NOT live at all. Some people simply do not want to accept that as fact.
