In the 2000s, the Patriots became one of the most successful teams in NFL history. They are third in appearances in a Super Bowl with seven (the Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys each have eight), and have the most appearances in the last 25 years. Between 2001–2010, the Patriots set a record for most wins in a decade (126, different from conventionally bounded decades, 2000–2009, 1990–1999, etc.; this record references any ten-year stretch; 2nd is the 1984–1993 San Francisco 49ers, with 120 wins). Between 2001 and 2005, the Patriots became the second team in NFL history (after the Dallas Cowboys) to win three Super Bowls in four years (Super Bowl XXXVI, XXXVIII, and XXXIX), and the eighth (and most recent) to win consecutive Super Bowls. The Patriots, however, were defeated by the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII, after winning the first 18 games of their 2007 season. They were defeated again by the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLVI. Under quarterback Tom Brady and head coach Bill Belichick, the Patriots have also compiled the longest winning streak consisting of regular season and playoff games in NFL history, a 21-game streak from October 2003 – October 2004.

Brady passed Joe Montana for most postseason starts won with his 17th.

He’ll tie Montana for the most conference championship game starts when he faces the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship next Sunday. He also joined Montana and Brett Favre as the only quarterbacks with at least 40 postseason touchdown passes.

Also with a win today against the Texans the Patriots will play in its seventh AFC championship since Brady and Bellichick both started with New England in 2000.That plus there is the chance if they win and advance next week they would be appearing in their sixth Super Bowl together.Incredible especially coming in the salary cap era of football where its harder to dominate than in the past.

New England would also tie Pittsburgh and Dallas at eight super bowl appearances if they advance next week against Baltimore.

No other coach/player has been as dominant except Chuck Noll and Terry Bradshaw who won four super bowls in the 1970's,In the 1980's Bill Walsh and Joe Montana won three super bowls together while Montana won a fourth with George Seifert.

With a win next week Brady and Belichick would be appearing in their sixth Super Bowl together.That will be one record that would never be broken by another player/coach ever.

Too bad for Gronkowski, breaking the same arm twice. I've been there but for me it was my leg. First day off crutches and I broke the same bone again but in a different spot. Sucks.

Too bad indeed. I knew he wasn't right when I saw him against Miami (last game of the season) trying to block with one arm. It's unfortunate for him and the Patriots that for the past two playoff runs, he hasn't been a part of it. Huge loss for the Patriots and will make their road that much tougher.

After the Baltimore THRASHING, they just plateaued. Nowhere to go but stay the same as others elevated their positioning in a positive manner. Hell, they even blew their wad for homefield dropping one AT HOME to the Colts who had absolutley NOTHING to play for. Odd for sure. They even threw everything they had at a mediocre Cincy team and still barely escaped.

Got 3 out of games picked right and had the 2 blowouts predicted and the dirty birds by 6. Houston is so one-dimensonal it's pathetic. Stop Foster, force

"Swabbie" to throw, and he can't. He lock's on to Johnson and then might find Foster out of the backfield or the tight end. Houston was the most over-

rated team this year in my opinion. Man, I hated to see the Sea chickens lose. Russell Wilson is fun to watch and Seattle has a bright future. OK, my

Interesting picks. Obviously, if the Niners team who showed up to play Green Bay shows up, then you might be on to something. If the Niners team who couldn't beat the Rams in two separate games shows up, who knows. I do like the Niners to win. As for the Patriots/Ravens game...The Ravens are a VERY tough team and have already beat the Patriots once this season. Flacco played exceptionally well against Denver, and if he plays that way again, they could win and win easily. I like the Patriots in a very close game. I would be stunned if that game was won by more than 3 points by either team.

I'll post early. It'll be a Harbaugh Bowl in New Orleans.

Count me in as one of the guys who gave no respect to Atlanta. I still feel that way after yesterday's game, and I will probably feel the same way for the rest of the playoffs. There are a lot of ifs coming out of that game, rather it be Seattle going for it on 4th Down when they could've settled for field goals, or when Pete Carroll iced the kicker when he missed the first time. I wanna see if Atlanta can do it again against the 49ers, with another Read Option QB in Colin Kaeprinick. Atlanta's struggled against the read option QBs all year. They got lucky yesterday. I don't think it'll happen again. 49ers win.

Since 2007, 5 of the 6 Ravens/Pats games have been decided by less than a touchdown. Ravens may have made the Super Bowl last year if not for a swatted pass and a botched field goal. They beat New England earlier this year. Both defenses have flaws that cater to the strengths of the offenses. My gut tells me that New England will win this game, but I'm still going with the Ravens. I picked them to win it all, I'm sticking to it until they lose.

I'm picking 49ers in the NFC CHAMPIONSHIP

i'm picking the Ravens to pull an upset over the Patriots in AFC....i keep wanting to take New England but my gut tells me something different like Jonny B

I also think there will be a Harbaugh Bowl in New Orleans.....49ers vs. Ravens

I'm goin' Falcons/Pats. I feel good when Atlanta wins. I've been touting them for the past 3 years on the brink of a Super Bowl team and had them winning it all last year in the pre-season.

If the good Niner's team shows up for two more games, they get Super Bowl number 6.

I think the Niners can perform very well against Atlanta, even if they have a slightly off day. I think even the slightest problem on Super Bowl Sunday and they lose, regardless of who they are playing.

I was very impressed with the Patriots on both sides of the ball. Wilfork is a monster and the way they have amazing depth on offense. Where the fuck did Shane Vereen come from? :shock:

Should be a great game. If I'm honest, I'm actually leaning toward Baltimore winning this game. Even though I think the Patriots are the better team, the Ravens are on an emotional high right now (and that actually matters in football). I think the 9 point spread that Vegas has the Patriots favored by is flat out MORONIC. Hell, the Patriots have lost two out of their last three games against the Ravens. Not to mention, the Ravens are one of the only teams in the NFL that Brady flat out sucks against! His absolute worst games are ALWAYS against this team. The Ravens are a VERY tough team and know that they can beat the Patriots. Also, even though I'm not a Flacco fan, the guy played well last week (even though Torrey Smith was probably more of a factor, given he made some tough catches). I would have more confidence in Flacco winning a post-season game at this point than Peyton "I puke on my cleats" Manning-Romo. :shock:

I wouldn't get overly excited about Chip Kelly. Pete Carroll's 2012 season notwithstanding, college coaches don't have a great track record in the NFL!

And harbaugh's seasons? I don't know abo Kelly specifically but I have a feeling this paradigm/assumption is shifting rapidly...

Great point on Harbaugh. There have been so many college failures (Nick Saban, anyone?), that I completely overlooked Harbaugh's immediate success.

Oregon is about to be hit with sanctions so it's no surprise that this Kelly bailed.
When it comes to college coaches succeeding in the NFL, I think Harbaugh's situation is a little different than Carroll's.
Carroll is on his third stint as an NFL headcoach where as it's Harbaugh's first. The former has a lot of NFL experience aside from that from being a DC for a lot of NFL teams also.

Yeah, I think Carroll has had just enough chances where eventually he was going to start winning by default. Will be interesting to see next year if his QB can still keep an edge or if defenses adjust enough to make him a one year wonder.

I'm with Ed on this. EVERY team has wack job fans that make the good fans look bad. Ultimately, this game will simply come down to which team can stay away from the turnovers. Looking at it objectively as I can, the Ravens aren't as good as they were last season, and the Patriots are better than they were last season. As great of a player as Ray Lewis has been, if you don't run the ball right at the guy, he isn't much of a factor any longer. Because of that, the Patriots should win the game, but we all know better when it comes to how the NFL works. The truth of the matter is that the Patriots have lost two of their last three games against the Ravens. The Ravens simply cause the Patriots to not play well. Because of that, I fully believe this game could go either way. If the Patriots don't turn the ball over, they'll win the game. If Brady plays like he typically plays against the Ravens (Which is to say that he usually sucks against them), they'll absolutely lose this game!
