AC without it here in the south, you might as well go stand in the middle of the street and let a car run over you.

I gotta go with the telegraph even though it's not on the list. The first electronic instant communication was truly a revelation. It's all evolved from there. 8)

The impact that Internet has on all our lives is amazing. I'm not just talking about us at MR or Stevew2 gaypornsurfing.
Just the fact that you can pretty much look up anything and anyone , whether it's an old friend u haven't talked to in decades , a song u heard but totally forgot about it , an actor u thought u saw in a certain movie ,,,or just plain and simple, follow the news around the world as it's developing ,,,,, The Internet IS the most amazing invention of our time.
The ONLY thing that can ever top Internet would be a teleport machine ...no not a time travelling machine,,,

but WE CAN LIVE WITH OUT THE INTERNET... just saying. Some of the other stuff, like the wheel, the jetliner, the car... would be really hard for progress to continue, with out them. We lived for 1000s of years with out the internet... and its only been available for the masses for 15-20 years.

What kind of logic is that ???:? If you wanna apply that "rule", then People also lived without the wheel for 1000s of years,,,,same thing with jetliner and car,,,,
Internet has changed our lives,,,thats a FACT ;)

LOL...

COMPUTERS HAVE CHANGED OUR LIFES... but I would argue... before the internet we had to actually read from books... the internet made our every day life easier... but COMPUTERS themselfs are what changed lifes... made typing papers easier... made doing accounting easier... made keeping records easier... etc. the internet provided an easier way to look up information that has always been available to us...

well now youre getting to technichal,,,,, computers are of course needed for the internet,, but they go hand in hand now,,,
A computer from 10 years ago was usefull with or without internet,,,,, nowdays if you have a computer and dont have internet, it is really not that usefull,,,, but of course its given that you would need a computer technology to have the internet, duh,,,
Look at your own business.... Internet is your #1 tool to make things happen,,,,, sure it was possible before, without the internet,,, but as you said, it makes things easier,,,,
then again,, thats the whole point of invention,,,, things that help us live life better and make us lazier,,,, Yep , even the wheel & jetliner you mentioned make things easier for us .

I still say , WWW
(cause without it you wouldnt even been able to have this poll or an option to argue with me  )

actually B the internet is the retail travel agencies biggest competitor... public can go and purchase tickets, hotels, cars cruises... with out our help.... which has made us the targets of vendors and consumers, to knock us out of a profession... its made our profession less about the travel experience...and more about being a commodity or a game. Not good or bad... jst what it is..

I love what the internet provides us with... knoweledge... but it has disrupted a ton of service industry professions, besides travel...including book stores, music stores, the music industry... I would guess that musicians who try and make a living with their talent and such have a love hate relation with the internet too... its putting them at risk to actually make a living from it... I am sure there are other industries that I am missing... here...

but then, that said... the other inventions listed in deanos poll have done the same thing to commerace before this... so I am not ranting on your idea that the internet is the best invention... I am ranting on your point that the internet is the #1 way to make things happen...

What about electricity? That's the greatest discovery/invention ever. We'd be dead without it. We couldn't even get online. lol

I would have to agree. Especially now that I have internet on my phone  I don't know HOW many times I am sitting talking to friends and I cant' remember something, and I pull out that phone and look it up and have the answer instantly. They laugh at me now  But it BUGS me when I can't remember things, so it's been great. But the way it connects people. Keeps us in touch. Instantly in touch. No mailed letters that take a week to get and respond to. I can't remember life without it and without it I really think I'd be lost now that I rely on it WAY too much!

Well, if something in this world ever happens to knock out all of our internet access and every other luxury we are spoiled with at this time, I bet I'd agree THEN

the ironic thing here... it would be the computer that would knock out all the power... think about it... what caused the NE blackout a few years ago... a computer... ;-)

I was thinking more like if we had a bomb or tsunami or earthquake or hurricane or something along those lines, wipe out everything. And we had to start from scratch like the cavemen.

Do you know how many little wheels it takes to run that little phone, the internet aaannnddd computers?!?!
Not to mention the ones spinning in your head every time you think!! Something to think about!!

The cougar got a good point; the wheel is the most important mechanical invention. But electricity is hands down the greatest invention of our time.

By the way; this place have been really boring as hell lately.
