I haven't been on here for a little while.
Came on today to see how people who have been hit by the bad weather are faring, and saw this thread. It came as a great shock.
At first I thought it was a joke thread because Deano had flounced off in a huff again and was refusing to post. But now I see it is much much worse.
I had a few PM chats with Dan before Christmas because I was concerned about Dean, and when you are stuck over in the UK and can't phone or meet up with everyone, you do tend to stay out of the loop with what's happening. Dan kind of filled me in that Dean had some problems, but I still don't know the full details and I just wish I had PM'd Dean to try and help.
I guess that the big guy's heart gave out?
What a damn shame.
I would appreciate it if someone would PM me and tell me exactly what was going on and what finally snatched him away so young. How old was he exactly?
This might sound weird, but I loved that guy.
We never met but he beat me up about being a 'smelly Euro with hairy armpits and bad chiclets' - I had to get Deb to explain what chiclets even were!
And he wanted me to post up photos of my 'rack' - and again I had to have that explained to me.
I never posted pics, of course!
And he teased me about all that stuff on the Board, but he would always send me a PM to make sure I knew he was only teasing.
He called me 'Suzer.'
And I knew he was teasing. I got him.
And when I joined here I landed smack in the middle of Tapegate and Dean's fights with that Paul McCartney impersonator guy. My God! All those threads and posts scared the shit out of me at first but then I got addicted to this place. I logged in to read Dean's latest posts.
I looked forward to reading anything with Deano's avatar on it.
He made me laugh, he made me angry - but I loved that guy.
My two main memories of him which will be remembered forever are
1) that video he posted up of himself wearing a child's ice hockey helmet whilst gulping down beer and BELCHING!
And
2) his recent Train journey where he was drinking Jagermeister and he posted up pics of his Willy.
He PM'd me to make sure I hadn't missed the picture of his Willy.
I loved him because underneath all that bluster I knew he was a lovely guy with a soft heart.
I thought he was a handsome brute who wasn't really a brute. I loved his face.
His passion and conviction regarding his beliefs were admirable even if his method of explaining them was crude.
I just loved the big git to bits.
And no disrespect Andrew, but this place will never be the same without him.
And his family, I send my condolences to you all. This is a man who will leave a BIG void in your lives.
I don't earn big money. I can't afford the trip to the US, but I wish I could come, because I would have liked to pay my respects to you all personally, but circumstances do not allow me to do that - even if they did, I only just found out this sad news so I wouldn't have had time to get there for Dean's service.
Next time I play a live gig, I will dedicate it to Dean.
Love and hugs to the family
And to you Dean, if you can read forums from wherever you have passed on to - I love you, man.
