These three lovely women + Crazy Debbie are SAINTS... The Mother Theresas of MelodicRock, if that tells you anything. 4 selfless, tireless sweethearts. Thanks for the pics, Fu!

On another note, I also learned that it's Mr. Sromek, not Mrs. Romek, LOL! Very nice guy!

Thanks! MG is so much fun to hang out with, and had our LARGE table full of MR'ers cracking up last night with her stories. Maybe someone can squeeze the "____ & cookies" story out of her! :)

I took a huge amount of pics yesterday but they'll probably have to wait. I'll try to post a few at least when I get back to my room. I can't even imagine what today will be like... We were flat out exhausted last night. :)

Some quick notes from yesterday...

TERRY BROCK -- WOW!!! Incredibly talented dude, and seeing him play with Valentine made me a believer in that combo! I don't think I heard a single song I didn't like, but of course my two faves were the Strangeways tunes off of Walk In The Fire... he said the first one "Where Are They Now" had never been played live before, and the other, "Love Lies Dying" hadn't been played in the U.S. I got almost all of the 1st and every bit of the 2nd song on vid, and it looks like they came out great! I'll upload them to YouTube when I get back. Anyway, this weekend wouldn't have been complete without this guy!

EDEN'S CURSE KICKED ASS!!! For a band who had only really rehearsed a few hours before, they sounded incredible and the set list did not disappoint. Close to 90 minutes of in-your-face rock with killer riffs and hooks. Thorsten Kohne totally shredded, and I got about half his guitar solo on camera -- will post it when I get back. Lots of variety in it, and a nice section of it was a fine homage to Eddie Van Halen. Dang, that dude can shred! New guitarist Marcus Thurston seems very quiet and reserved when you see him around. But when he hit the stage he became a melodic rock madman -- outstanding lead player too, though he mainly handles the rhythm chops. This guy has a great career ahead of him, and is super nice in person. Another real sweetheart of a guy is drummer Pete Newdeck from London. A big intimidating looking guy when he's bashing the skins, but very cool and accommodating to the fans. Definitely a gentle giant. Big props also to bassist and main songwriter Paul Logue from Scotland!

PRIDE OF LIONS was outstanding, and it was my first time to see Jim Peterik play. I'd passed by him upstairs earlier and he passed by and gave me a nice smile and hello. You can just tell he is a happy guy, and I'm betting that Ichthus on the back of his guitar has something to do with it. ;) Anyway, he really, really ROCKED, and jumped out in the crowd at one point and was just hopping and dancing around with the fans while jamming out constantly on that wild guitar of his. Big highlight was Jimi Jamison joining singer Toby Hitchcock for "Burning Heart", which got a huge crowd reaction! When finished, Toby looked just as thrilled as everyone else, and said, "DUUUUUUUUDE!!! I just sang with Jimi Jamison!" You could tell that was amazing for him. I believe they closed with a very, very cool version of "Eye Of The Tiger".

DANGER DANGER -- What can I say? They are simply the cure for what ails ya! I'm fully convinced that you could be having the crappiest day in the world and these guys could make it ok. It was my first time seeing them live, and Stockton, Melissa and I were front and center and got it full force in the face! Ted Poley is an AMAZING showman... The dude is an entertainer thru and thru. He also went deep into the crowd to jam with fans, and at the end, he stage dived into the crowd. I was fumbling with my camera to get a decent shot, then suddenly I see these big pair of sneaker soles coming back right toward my head so I rushed to shut my camera off before I got hit, LOL!!!! It has a 10x zoom lens and takes about 8 seconds to power off so I barely made it just in time to help push him back on stage. It was also Bruno Ravel's birthday, and Ted had them sending shots of Southern Comfort and tequila on stage -- the first batch got kicked over by accident, but they successfully downed the second batch. Best line of the night was Bruno Ravel, when he smiled after a shot and said, "Let me tell ya something -- you ain't gonna see any other band come up here, get s***-faced and have fun like this, huh?"

Finally was Y&T and they were great! Unfortunately, my knees were pounding from being on my feet and I couldn't hold up at front with Stockton. Today, I am more prepared -- went to Walgreens and got some special orthotics for my shoes which should help tremendously. No way in hell I'm going to let my knees keep me from getting crushed up front for WINGER!!!

One quick note -- so many awesome, cool and nice musicians here this weekend, and right at the top of the list is Joe Vana from Mecca! He and his very talented son Joey were great, and hung out with us for a while during the Y&T set. That dude has an amazing voice and they were incredible yesterday. Thanks for the pics, Joe!!!

Also, I took one of the MR Fest II posters and a set of multi-colored metalic pens and had as many MR board folk sign it as I could find. I have 15 sigs in all right now, and hope to get a few more. I was especially shameless hounding DrFU for an autograph while she was focused on the crowd of people trying to buy shirts at the merch booth. Sorry about that Fu! LOL!!! Now you know what it's like!

Image

That's it for now... pics later. Trying to get an early jump on things. Less stalking today, more rocking. Probably not much relaxing though. :)

P.S. Mel after 3 margaritas, or whatever it was she was drinking is a TRIP!!! She's normally so shy and reserved, but when she came back to claim her front row spot for Danger Danger she was FEARLESS!!! Kitten had claws!!!!! LOL!!!! I was very impressed.

Oops, forgot to mention -- now I know why the band is called EDEN'S CURSE! Michael Eden dropped enough F-bombs during their set yesterday to level Chicago 6 times over. I think he even insulted the city of Chicago too over some immigration problems getting their keyboard player into the country for the gig (that was sad, but the set only rocked harder for it).

It's a good lesson in what happens when you cross Michael Eden!!!!

Image

Honestly, it sounds like the dude had way too much on his plate this weekend. Their gig almost got canceled due to the immigration issues, and they were also banned from selling any merch at the venue which had to SUCK. Luckily another vendor was able to sell their own stock of Eden's Curse CDs and swag so the fans were well taken care of. Very uncool for the band though. Michael came thru and put on a heck of a show. I can't imagine all the crap he's been thru this weekend.

lol Rip ... No worries; I occassionally do book signings in real life & mainly it's humbling to have people care about something you've done enough to want you to sign it ... Which brings me to something else ... We talked to folks for 14 hours straight yesterday at the merch booth and Everyone was having a great time; the bands guys were all friendly and appreciative of their fans and the fans were great too... Not an idiot or ass in the bunch. You all have a blast today. Unfortunately it s back to work for me.

I will also echo what Rip said about Michael Eden. I talked with him a bit upstairs about the good ol midwest, Chi-town, crap on the radio and the chances of them doing a US tour. It's sad when a guy and a band that talented cannot play here in the states. Maybe if their asses were hanging out and they were 16 year old teeny-boppers.....which is what we have here filling up arenas across the US, then there'd be a chance, but that crap unfortunately dominates the music scene here. Peterik was right when he said melodic rock is dead in the US.
