"THE BOX" Directed by Richard Kelly. With James Marsden, Gillian Jacobs, Cameron Diaz

Norma and Arthur Lewis, a suburban couple with a young child, receive a simple wooden box as a gift, which bears fatal and irrevocable consequences.

A mysterious stranger, delivers the message that the box promises to bestow upon its owner $1 million with the press of a button. But, pressing this button will simultaneously cause the death of another human being somewhere in the world; someone they don't know.

With just 24 hours to have the box in their possession, Norma and Arthur find themselves in the cross-hairs of a startling moral dilemma and must face the true nature of their humanity....

Could you knowingly cause a death for a million bucks?!?!

I liked it better the first time I saw it, when it was called, 'Button, Button'....an episode of the Twilight Zone which aired in 1985.

I agree. I think Stephen King wrote this one, but I could be wrong. I liked the whole twist at the end when they find out that the button goes to someone else when they finish with it. Pretty cool idea! :D

I agree with G.I. Jim in that if I knew it were a terrorist, I would in a heartbeat but only then. Then again, even if they deserved it, with my luck I'd be arrested and sent to death row. :? Then how would I spend my million- er, HALF a million after the government took half of it?

Yes, in a heartbeat. I would even do it probably for less or try to strike a deal - 4 @ $250,000 a piece or do X number and get one free. I'd probably push the button for some people I DO know...but don't like. BTW, since I know what my answer would be easily, I will not see the movie. It would be pointless to me.

So what's to say that if you push the button and get the million, that if/when the box is passed to someone else and they push the button, you're the one that ends up dead? Didn't see the movie, did I just ruin the ending?

Pretty Much......although hollywood, of course, had to add shit to the original script to make it long enough so people could actually go to the theatre and see this piece of crap.....

No, he'd push that button for free if he was guaranteed that the people on the other end were gay or foreign.

It's possible because once the button is pushed it's a random death, Russian Roulette if you will!!!

You have no control now, you're in this thread and Tito has the box!!

Tito, you cannot select
the person who will expire! It is ONE SINGLE PERSON
whose identity is a mystery...not an entire ethnic group of
your choosing.
Now dig deep into your heart...can you imagine
a situation that would make you feel deperate enough to push that
button!!!

ps~have you taken the ADHD test in the other thread?!?!?

I think he'd blow up Jonathan for a cool million. For this one, he might cry a little, but he'd do it.

Just watch the Twilight Zone episode and spend the extra hour of your life you haven't wasted doing something more productive.

Depends. Does a Wolverine get to "bite it"? Like, say...their quarterback???

JK, of course. I could NEVER do it. Money really doesn't mean that much to me...

no...I prefer possessions!

Funny. However, it wouldn't happen because he is someone I know (not personally though). Wasn't that the criteria - it has to be a stranger/someone you do not know.

People all over the world die every minute. Draw a pic of a button, and push it...right now. Guess what? Someone in the world that you don't know just died. What difference would this box make?

Take the cash.
