The people I know that have seen Hurt Locker have said it's a fantastic movie. I have only heard great things about it.

form an opinion. But SB's is a definite must see,
my mother said the character she played was me, it better be nice!!

No way it was going to beat Pixar's Up but I was really happy to see the nomination of The Secret Of Kells in the animation category.
I ended up buying the DVD through Amazon UK for around 12 dollars as sellers here in the states wanted 80 bucks for the NTSC version.
I enjoyed the film quite a bit though it's not done in the usual style of animation.

I've only viewed a few scenes of the movie (definitely going to see it), but there is one where SB's character confronts a gang leader in his neighbourhood and tells him he had better not mess with her because "she is in a prayer group with the DA, and is a member of the NRA and is always packing" and I thought, 'I love that character!'. If you're mom said that's you, it was a great compliment MG!

i know!! I was shocked by her too  And she made the "worst dressed" list because it said she needed a dress to "show off her figure" I said "what figure, she is bones" If she's not physically ill or something, that is sad.

I didn't notice that she was too thin this award season. I guess to me she's always thin, but maybe she is thinner from looking at those photos. It's that she's aged so much and doesn't color her hair, which makes her look older, and then had her hair very long down her back and grayish at the Golden Globes. She needs to update her look. It's not flattering.

I saw her on the Oscars, not just the pics here and her bones were sticking out. It's not like she's just thin. And I think yes, she's always been too thin, but this is really thin now. And the thinner someone is, the older they look. They get wrinkles because there is no fat to fill in the cracks ;)

From those photos, I can see her arms are much thinner. You're right. It looks so strange to me to have hair just as long as the older photo but it's gray. Just not attractive at her age. She needs to put on a few pounds, cut her hair up a little, but still long, and color it back to a soft brown with some layers. And put some color on her face. She's all washed out.

I looked it up and she's only 48 years old  My mom is 61 and she looks younger than her  I think it's more than just the gray hair that ages, though that does not help for sure! And the way she's wearing it too. But she just looks so gaunt.

Award shows fucking suck.....bunch of industry types patting themselves (and each other) on the back....from the token black sweep with Halle and Denzel, to Bullock winning this year - we should be talking about when this concept jumped the shark.

I thought Halle Berry deserved her award if it is the movie I'm thinking of with Billy Bob. Denzel Washington is one of my favorite actors. There's plenty of times I don't get why someone got an award. Nicole Kidman for her movie with the prosthetic nose as best actress, when it was to me a supporting actress role. There were three or four actresses in that film with their own storyline and all had equal time and hers was far from the best performance in the film. I thought Julianne Moore's performance was amazing, but still supporting, as none of them carried the movie. Same when Sissy Spacek won her best actress Oscar for The Bedroom, or whatever it was called. I had finally watched it and was shocked. It was not a lead role. Definitely a supporting actress role. The husband had more of the lead role in the movie. And then women who really carry the lead in a movie get overlooked. Talk about politics. And I never thought Julia Roberts' performance was Oscar worthy. I always felt like I was watching Julia Roberts pretend to be that women. She didn't disappear into the role for me, though did a very good job.

Well, I feel the same about Jack Lemmon for his roll in the David Mamet movie. That guy deserved the best supporting actor Oscar and he didn't even get nominated. I'm so bad today. I can't think of any of the movie titles I'm talking about.

And last year the supporting actress got robbed. That Tila woman won for the movie with George Clooney, but the best performance, to me, which blew me away, was the loser mother of the baby missing in the Ben Affleck directed movie of the missing child. Her performance was absolutely stunning. Talk about getting robbed.

Speaking of Worst Dressed; Best Dressed....

I was watching the E! "Fashion Police" show - they had a split-screen with James & Suzy on the left and James' ex-Wife / Director of "The Hurt Locker" on the right - they were comparing fashions - and guess what?

 They CUT SUZY OUT OF THE SCREEN and just focused on James & his ex-Wife!

I've never cared about this stuff. If I like it, I like it. I don't care what kind of awards it does or doesn't get. Clint Eastwood should win every award every year. Gran Torino shoulda swept the awards last year... every single category.

I don't know, maybe it's just me but award shows in general just don't have the luster and excitement that they used to. I watched the entire Oscars even though I only saw Up & Julie & Julia on DVD - the rest is still in my blockbuster queue  It just wasn't anything special...and I still think it sucks eliminating the live performances of nominated songs! Also think 10 best picture nominees is an overkill.
