Okay, firstly, I hate George Bush and I cannot believe what short memories a lot of Americans have about the past 2 presidential terms, but I think Paul really shouldn't have said this.

He was being honored with the Gershwin award at the White House and it really tarnished the event.
LOVE McCartney, but just think that it was pretty lame remark at such a honorable occasion.

It's just like anything else - there's just no place for it in this context. When are these guys gonna understand that with the ticket prices they charge, they're attracting at least 50% conservative type people?

well, it's not even that... it's just kind of whizzing on your own birthday cake.
Paul's quips are usually pretty funny. That one just kind of was not a great thing to say.

Haaaaaaaahahahahaha!

^5, Sir Paul.
That was pretty tame, compared to a lot of what's been said about him. But Bush seriously faceplanted into all those kinds of jokes all by himself with his many, many dopey comments, and that's why people make those jokes. This is no surprise. I mena, people
still make Clinton cigar jokes...

But NOT at a White House event (do they?).
Not sure why this bugs me as I'm such a major Beatle-a-holic. (AND I hate Bush)- I dunno, maybe I just figured he was kind of above that.
I've read several posts from people saying "I'm a lifelong fan and you lost me with this". I obviously don't feel that way, but damn dude, not necessary.

Roger Waters has been bashing Bush for 8 years in a fashion ten times worse, just not on the actual White House lawn. He still sells out where ever he goes so though. Fair or not, this will come back on Obama, not Sir Paul.

You're allowed to do that. I don't have to agree with you.

The Brit's just made it an art form. Roger Waters, Russel Brand, Paul McCartney, and who ever's next.

Very, very tacky. A real lack of respect for a past president at an event being held at the White House.

I appreciate you saying that...
I think often with celebrities (Sir Paul, Dixie Chicks, etc...), it's more about what they consider to be endearing themselves to their current audience than actually stating their beliefs. However, they often end up coming across as very petty, childish, and as you say tacky. There's absolutely no reason for it.

I couldn't have said it any better, and for the first time in a couple of weeks... Jana, I actually agree with you!

What a piece of shit to do that at an awards ceremony at the White House. That would be the equivelant of one of our musicians going over to a ceremony with the Queen of England, and degrading Prince Charles, or Princess Diana. No matter who it is, it's VERY disrespectful. I am so sick of these liberal fuckers pulling this shit and getting away with it!
Not that it will hurt "Sir

" Paul McCartney, but I hope he doesn't sell another damn album in this country for his disrespect. Fucking WANKER!!!

Love it. Bush was the worst in history and Sir Paul has the right to express how he feels.

It appears that I'm the only one who thought this was funny.
Appropriate? Probably not. End of the world? No. Not
that big a deal.
But damn do I love the chaos stuff like this creates.

Not fucking appropriate considering the circumstances dude. Not cool at all. If you want to hate on a republican, you don't do it in the White house during a fucking awards ceremony.

It is disrespectful yes but I dont see any reason why anyone in this world should pay any kind of respect to the asshole who cheated himself into the office and fucked up this country for 8 years.

Plus, I just think there's much bigger and more important things to get worked up over.
I don't know... jobs and unemployment... that whole oil spill disaster, maybe?

Still love the guy, just think he used poor judgment.

Cool! Looks like I can get rid of all the Paul McCartney music from my collection now. I don't feel bad now for selling all my old Beatles albums on ebay some time back. U2 and MJ were the first to go, long time ago.

hahahaha....some of you guys are so bitter - Paul's at that age where he simply doesn't give a shit what you or anyone else thinks, and he can share his liberal view in anyway he see's fit. Granted he could have used a little tact - but it wasn't all that bad (another bush was an idiot criticism, big deal, are you still holding on the notion that the man was astute scholar?) I'm sure his statement is a pale comparison to anything you hear on fox news (aka information cancer) 60% of the time when they are supposedly not talking opinion.
And just a suggestion...try to avoid elevating the people who's art you enjoy, beyond anything besides the quality of their art...there's PLENTY of dick bags in music and entertainment that you wouldn't spend time with (let alone cross the street to piss on if they were on fire) if you really knew who they were and what they're about.

I know, right?

He's a person with an opinion, just like the rest of us.
Any of you ever express an opinion at an inappropriate place or time? I bet ya
have!

aren't musicians known for saying & doing things that are controversial? think of one of his former bandmates.
