Bon Jovi hits 3 million fans of Face Book. Does this spell the end for official band sites or can they co-exist with FB?
Journey's website has become complete garbage with the spam issues and over zealous members appointing them self as moderators.
With Neal initially complaining about the costs of a dedicated band site, should Journey and other acts set up shop on Face Book completely?
Should fan run sites be the ones to fill the space in between?


I know my news feed for Foreigner, Def Leppard and Meat Loaf are a lot more active than any of their official website pages.

Lady Gaga has ten million on her Facebook. I doubt she has that many on her fansite. Official fansites still have their place for very active singers or bands who are touring and putting out music.

They are dirty dozen bound, just like Foreigner, Journey and the rest. I'm propping them more for their business tactics than their actual artistry here.

Lady Gaga might have 10 million but I'm not comparing a 30 year old band to her, that would be nuts. I 'll just keep the comparisons confined to their peers in the industry.

Just to follow up, I see in my FB news feed that Joe Elliot will be on Rockline next Wednesday. When Neal did all those interviews in the UK, where were the official announcements so the fans could listen along? Not on the Journeymusic site, that's for sure.

they of course have their songs they will always play that the general fan wants to hear, just like with every classic band. But I have seen them live the last 2 years, and this year it was surprising to me how many songs they played from their newer albums. What differs with BJ though, is their die hard fans continue singing along. They know the new music. The arena stays on their feet. When Def Lep tries this, people sit and go for beer BJ has a very unique following of fans. I would assume because they've never been super heavy, they attract a wider range of fans. And they continue buying the music.

Perhaps you just aren't "sure" of their real usage. I have it on pretty good authority that they are using and have been using more than just canned vocals. I think you know this too. Maybe I should collect a few boots from BJ and examine this? No offence to Jon, but he has really lost his upper end. The problem is NOT the backing- whether the other musicians can adequately perform backing or not -OR- the simple use of pre-recorded backing(it's not a major sin). No one cares about backing vocals. To even put out that excuse tells me there is something more to just "backing vocals." I personally believe Jon gets a lot of help on lead vocals....not to the extent of a Steve Augeri. He was a phony rock star. JBJ has a reputation and better be careful. And also, think of this. Who is the primary source for the backing vox? That's right, Ritchie is, and Ritchie can still sing, so the theory of just a little help seems to me to be bullshit.

All I know is I just watched one of their concerts on HDNet the other day and I can't stand the way he sounds live. Sounds nasal and whiney.

I noticed Metallica has double that, over 6 million "likes" on FB, lol...
