Nah...why bother...I have no interest in DC. The last straw was the Superman Returns trailer. The teaser trailer was great, way better than the movie! Marvel is where it's at!

I've never been so disappointed in a movie, especially when the first round of reviews were so stellar. It was horrible all the way around, and none of the cast had any real chemistry either. Kevin Spacey also sucked as Luthor. Poor, tepid, moody story, without even a satisfying showdown at the end. I think Bryan Singer got way too hung up on paying homage to the Reeve films and missed the point entirely.

I kinda agree about the movie overall. It was a lame attempt at a story. I thought the girl who played Lois was horrible, I thought Kevin Spacey was mediocre and the whole super-kid pissed me off. Now, I think Routh made a good Superman, but could have been better with a better movie and the flying effect were the best I had ever seen. There were SPECTACULAR moments in that film. The save of the jet and those flying sequences were incredible and cathing the jet and setting it down was pretty fuckin' cool too. I liked the emotion Superman felt and the disconnect, but I wish it had been more balanced with a real enemy or given Luthor more teeth. Parker Posey was great, but she always is.

I'd say it wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen, but as Superman movies go, it was still better than Superman 3 and 4 with Chris Reeve. LOL

The whole entire waste of time of Superman Returns started with Bryan Singer and snowballed into everything else (production-- even though the CGI was cool-- cast, story, honoring the original, etc.) I was so fired up for this movie but that quickly turned into literally wanting to walk out in the middle of it. At times, I thought I was sitting there watching Superman: The movie all over again and they even payed honor in dialogue and certain lines which took away from the originality when clearly there was none.

Routh had no chance into making Superman his own and barely said anything. He did make a good Clark Kent but someone didn't get the memo that Christopher Reeve's rendition needs to be left alone not to be duplicated because the attempt turns into the piece of shit that was Superman Returns. Hell, Superman he barely DID anything other than pick up heavy things like Kryptonite islands and the ONLY action the WHOLE ENTIRE MOVIE saw was Superman actually getting his ass kicked by Luthor and his cronies. Lois Lane was possibly the worst casting ever and Kevin Spacey seemed bored. Other than the airplane save in the beginning, the whole until movie gets an F- and another F for the Super kid. AWFUL.

WB "seriously considering" Mad Men's Jon Hamm as next Superman:

TMT’s source claims that Warner Bros. has “seriously considered” Hamm for the role but the actor is 39 years of age, a tough sell if they want to make a franchise out of this (which they do).

Previously rumored as a candidate for Green Lantern and popular online for his humorous portrayal of Superman’s arch-nemesis in the Funny or Die skit (shown below), Hamm in my mind would be a solid choice to play the new Clark Kent… if he were at least a decade younger.

I've been behind the Jon Hamm for Superman ever since early talks of the reboot. I was just watching Mad Men last night and pondering what an excellent Superman he could become. When I see him, I instantly hear the Superman theme and always viewed his mature look as MY Superman I always pictured. (Marvel's Iron Man Robert Downey Jr. is 45 years old and captures the role very well as Iron Man, so I don't see age as an issue since Hamm is 6 years younger than Downey Jr. Besides, Superman should have that mature look that he should represent the challenges of being to hell and back and the experience the character has forever been challenged with.)

I've said it more than once or twice. JON HAMM FOR SUPERMAN!

If one claims that this man doesn't reek of Superman then you are a fibber, period.

Trav, have you ever seen the "World's Finest" fan film? I could swear I've posted it before. If that dude wasn't the perfect Superman (acting ability aside), I don't know who is. Great shot of Joe Hamm with the hat!

Slinking through the crowd dressed up as Deanna Troi with your DVD holder full of movie inserts waving super hero actors/actresses down for signatures...actually chasing Thomas Jane for that elusive Punisher sig...sidling up to Michael Dorn, asking if he could get you a Brian Bonsall signature....lmao!!!!

You're right. We aren't 12 anymore. Not sure what your age holds or what RIP or anyone elses, but I'm 22. Now that we've got that out of the way, why must it bother you that the generation of comics books have evolved to the more mature audiences? There are certainly comic books that are intended for children, but comic books now have an audience of mystery novels that involve rape, crimes, morals and stuff not intended for children. It's no different than any fiction novels that one reads whether it be mystery, political, or even romantic type of genre. It's just those stories mixed in with drama of artistic ability that paints a picture within its pages. Nothing wrong with being a comic book fan and those who view comics as being childish is way off the point and place that under a cliche'.

You're also excusing the fact that Super hero movies have brought in billions of dollars to its franchise and have been a backbone in summer blockerbusters over their existence, esp over the last couple of years. All those people who spend their money on those 8 dollar movies seem to not think that comic book movies are lame-o (what adult uses lame-o anymore anyway? :p) but rather than uplifting and climatic that involves drama and action. Maybe every adult starting at the age of 18 should throw away their youth and the personality that comes with it & sit down and watch the news 24/7 and not take a part in any entertaining activities or movies that would come off as immature or childike.

RIP, I do remember that and have seen many fan made trailers and such. That guy had a good look but the acting was unbearable.

I have met Deanna Troi matter of fact, and that's a story in itself, LOL. I could not have been less impressed. I would definitely chase Thomas Jane down for an autograph. Absolutely true - I actually envisioned that scenario about a week ago. :)

No, there's nothing wrong with it. Putting people down for being interested in something is far more immature than digging on comics or comic movies, or anything else that people may deem childish or "uncool".

Rip, I love that trailer and you're right, that man is the closest thing I've seen to what Superman should look like. Like I said, Routh was good, but after seeing that man, Routh looks too much like a boy, not a super Man!

Those were my thoughts exactly on Routh. I felt Bryan Singer got too distracted by his passing resemblance to Christopher Reeve but Routh didn't have the same broad-shouldered physique. He looked like a Superboy to me, not Superman. Trav was right too -- Routh's only hope would have been to make the role his own, but instead he tried to mimic Reeve and it fell really flat.

The suit in that film SUCKED btw... Same colors as the "evil" Superman in Superman III. Stupid! I've seen one of those original Evil Supes suits from that film go for several thousand on eBay. It would be fun to have one.

I dig it, RIP and I've seen that multiple times. I'd def have a look see if it was ever released to a small budget film or if anybody decided to put it on some kind of rental. His built reminds me of the animated series type bulkness Superman.

Image

That picture also reminded me to one of these recent Superman titles. Cover art by the great Gary Frank.

Image

I've always liked the more toned and skinnier version of Superman. I felt that all of that bulk and all of that muscle just didn't have a good look for him. I think Superman flying around in a decent physical and narrow build was always the perfect look for him rather than the muscle type.

No, never made into anything else, though there was another one that was. This particular one was never designed to be anything more than a mock trailer. I've seen several cool ones, including "Batman: Dead End" (same actor as Batman vs. Predators), and one of my faves -- "Grayson", about Robin coming back to avenge the death of Batman. It's one of the best fan films I've ever seen, and also features a quick shot of Green Lantern.

It missed out by failing to connect him to the character in any way, but kudos for effort! :)

Here are the other two fan films I mentioned:

GRAYSON (This is as cool as it gets! Superman alert!!! And Green Lantern + other DC herores also makes a brief appearance):
