I know lots won't agree with me but for me it's Maroon 5's "Hands All Over," which with the help of Mutt Lange brought some great melody and R&B pop rock for those of us that grew up in the 80's and want something updated but still faithful to the spirit of that era.

Great album Jeremey, but for me it's a bunch of Brits whose debut album at the tail end of this year blew me away.
Vega - Kiss of Life.

Check Heavyharmonies for their yearly Top 5's.....and in June, when Drew gets around to doin' his....

Dude, love ya, but you cannot be serious. Even Mutt couldn't help this "pop/dance/poop" album sell. The band are done. Worst singer since Rick Asssley.

From the looks of these choices it was not a good year for music

What new music from 2010 do you rate?

Newsflash...They aren't called "records" anymore. "Album" would be the correct term.
Thanks for your attention.

Hasn't the word 'record' just always been short for 'a recording'?
later~

Yeah, Jeremey, as soon as I hear Maroon 5, I change stations. Awful. He can't hold a note on pitch for half a second, and he sounds like a p***y.

We won't have ours done until mid January this year. Lots to go through

I already have one in mind for stinker of the year. The top 5 have to be widdled down from 30 or so

This one is easy.
Captain Zapped.
Read Andrew's review here:
http://melodicrock.com/reviews/reviews.html
oh fuck it, here it is:
Frontman of Circus Of Power was Alex Mitchell. What a great band too – just great hard driving rock n roll with a sleazy edge.
This is his new band Captain Zapped.
WTF? Together with Billy Tsounis (guitars/keys),
Alex has recorded one of the very worst albums in the history of this website, or perhaps rock n roll in general. This is a complete load of tosh. An utter embarrassment to all involved. It sounds as if it was recorded in a garage without electricity, on a farm where the only harvest on offer was really bad weed. This is really and truly utter shit. Zero production value; zero effort on vocals (droaning half spoken at best); zero quality of songwriting and horrendous artwork complete with Alex dressed in a cape and leather caveman loincloth (and accompanying skull) on the back.
Musically it is all over the show – stoner rock, 70s psychedelic nonsense, God knows what else.
I just hope this review reaches people before they actually pay for this shit. Except for The Last Hard Men, this is the worst CD I have ever heard.

Lukather's new record, one of the best this year. Shame it won't make the radar for the general populous.

I thought Lukather's new album is a great effort, but it was two songs too short for my liking. I also can't believe many think it is better than Ever Changing Times. That album flat out kicked ass and checked in at the perfect length. It's definitely not record of the year for me. Probably not even top five, but probably top ten.

Yeah, I'm definitely in the other camp - surprised people think ECT was better (tunes like Jammin' w/Jesus, Tell me what you want from me, and the instrumental just didn't work for me and contrasting the Steely Dan influenced tune "On My Way Home" from the new album is much better than "Stabbed in the back". ) but that's part of Luke's talent and desire to make diverse tunes. and of course you can't please everyone. I know Andrew still cites Luke's first solo album as his favorite, but don't expect Luke to make another record like that. I would honestly have rated ECT a 75% and the new one (All's well..) 95%.
