By Andy Greene
Springsteen's official website has confirmed longstanding rumors that he will tour with the E Street Band in 2012. A short statement says they will tour Europe from the middle of May through late July. There will also be an American tour, as well as a new album. The complete text of the note is below:

Well, things are starting to heat up down on E Street.

A lot of you have been hearing that Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will be on tour in 2012. That is absolutely correct. The European dates run from the middle of May until end of July and are being announced this week. Info on the US dates and the World tour dates will coming up shortly.

In addition, we want you to know that the music is almost done (but still untitled), we have almost settled on the release date (but not quite yet), and that we are all incredibly excited about everything that we're planning for 2012. That's all the info we have for right now, but we'll get back to you--real soon.

Is there going to be a replacement? That will be about as tough as replacing the lead singer in the bands we follow.

Bruce is on my bucket list.

The rumour is Bruce has replaced Clarence with either Clarence's son, or David Sancous, the original player in the E Street Band(also a black dude).

No offense, but shame on Andrew for not having this information available to rock fans. Frankly, it's inexcusable. The biggest band in the world lost one of it's more prominent members, and is about to embark on a world tour, and Andrew doesn't even bother to do any homework on the replacement sax player, yet, will research stupid shit like Mr Big club/bar tour schedules, Harem Scarem re records or other shit bands NO ONE gives a crap about.
How can I call Andrew out like this? Easy. It's horrible journalism, at best. You say you are a melodic rock writer/promoter/researcher? Again, you have the biggest band in the land ready to go out on the road with a replacement saxaphonist for the Big Man, yet you don't have information on a replacement? Here's a tip: Call Jon Landau, I would think he knows and would tell you. Stop fucking around with Work of Art, Tesla and the other "journey logo rip off bands" as well as no talent bands like Rock Sugar who lips more songs than a Roided up Steve Augeri, and start reporting news on bands that people care about.

Yeah, I love Andrew, but I hate his "priorities" in music. The bands he likes are all garbage. So instead of reporting on Jon Cain's next vacation, or some stupid fuckin Arnel sob story, get the name of C's replacement for fucks sake!

Yawn. Doesn't Spruce Bringspain have enough money? How many scraps of newspaper has he collected with which to shape lyrics for new songs? Is the tour being sponsored by Chloraseptic?

Not to pick on you Deb, but no one gives two shits about Mr Big and their colossal world tour of bars and taverns. People are however, interested in Springsteen's huge tour, which if rumours are possibly true, will be the biggest tour ever known to man- it could be the farewell tour and feature 25 night stays at NJ/NY and 10 night runs in LA....just saying.

The only place on their year long world tour they played bars/HOBs was the US leg (couple months). But thats neither here nor there, I'd still rather see MB at a House Of Blues than Springsteen in an arena. We like what we like, how many people he can play to compared to MB isn't going to make me like his voice any better. Sorry dude, he may be a great songwriter, but EM smokes him when it comes to pipes. And that's where it's at for me, you can have the best written song on the planet but if you are grunting it out, it doesn't mean shit to me. Hell, if somebody's got the pipes, they could be singing about toilet paper, as long as it's pleasing to my ear. If you don't believe me, take a poll, who has the better pipes? :P

Ok Deb, you got me. Buried me. Versilibre and GI Jim too. All three of you just make excellent points. You're correct, Springsteen does suck, has zero talent and like Jim says, is pure shit. You should probably go back to listening to your 80's keyboard pop music Jim, and study up on why none of your favourite bands can sell 1/8th the records that shitty Springsteen does. It's clear you haven't listened to him or you wouldn't say he grunts or snorts out words. LOL, he is one of the best live singers in music today. It's just not me saying it either. Go look around and read reviews. He has improved every year saince 78, and is better than ever. He is 62 years old, and is still far and away, the absolute best front man in music- npo one is even close, not even Eric Martin. I know Eric Martin is much much more talented in every aspect of the game; songwriting, singing, performing, playing, whatever. I don't think anyone is as good as Eric Martin. For whatever reason, he is having difficulty selling records or clubs out for that matter, and I don't know why. Bruce should call him up(if Eric would even give him his number), and ask him how he can improve his guitar playing and singing, let alone his songwriting. Or maybe Bruce can talk the E Street band into co headlining with Mr Big overseas, because I hear MB is as big as it gets over there. I don't know if Bruce would open for them, but he would probably go along with co-headlining.

Thank you to all three of you for your insightful remarks. They truly consisted of deep value.
Hoagiepete, don't waste your money on Bruce- waaaaay overrated. Spend your hard earned money on a Mr Big show. You'll be blown away.

 Daayum, that was hot!! I may need a cigarette.  Now was that so hard?

I didn't say E was more talented, better songwriter, etc than Bruce. It's all good, no biggie, we'll each put our money down on what we like. But I will stand by my comment of Eric having better pipes than Bruce.

Are you saying Springsteen isn't melodic rock? Much more melodic than Martin ever was. Try listening once in a while, or button the fuck up already.

Springsteen is a poet, to me. Whether he rocks or slows it down he tells a story and has a fantastic sense of melody.

LOL. As if that is a preposterous statement she made. I like some of the bands Deano rips on. I think it's funny, actually. But the fact that the clowns here listening to Wet Pussy Lixx and Anal Danger Anal Danger, among others, thinking that their music is superior to a legend like Bruce is hysterical.

Nobody claimed Crazy Lixx and D2 were better than ANY other music. It was questioned why someone has to put down those groups just because they haven't sold out MSG 184,582 nights in a row(which seems to be Dean's only comeback).

Because, you know, more tix sold = "better" music.

Funny, that. Some of my favorite artists haven't sold a fraction of that in live ticket sales. Yet somehow they blow away "The Boss" in my book.

I generally don't like using sales as a barometer for the quality of music. History is rife with bands that sell albums/concert tickets very well for a few years. But, when you add longevity AND sales together, it's hard to argue that the music as a whole isn't just objectively "good" in some sense, even if it's not your style. Bruce has that.

For example, the Rolling Stones aren't my bag at all. But I can't sit here and say with a straight face that they are objectively "bad" because Mick Jagger doesn't have the range of some womanly sounding high-ranged singer of a faceless 80s band.

I think you're glossing over the fact that Deano likes to basically piss all over everybody's musical likes at Spruce's expense. Then he acts like he's some great vocalist when all you have to do is listen to the guy and know he gargles gravel.

Singers of that midrange guttural style that are far superior include James Dewar (R.I.P.), Davey Pattison and heck, even Paul Rodgers.

And yes, there will always be a number of acts from the '60s/'70s that will sell lots of tix no matter what. But I'm more impressed by Rush's longevity considering they're not darlings of the rock critics' society the way BS is. Yet their fans keep them going.

Anyone who bases their musical likes/dislikes on ticket sales or album sales is a sad excuse for a music fan. Popularity may get you heard by more people but that isn't what makes your music good or better than others who may or may not have sold as much as you have.
