Styx also did We Will Rock you/We are the Champions by Queen. It was pretty good to. Bad thing, it only clocked in around 3 minutes-ERIC

I am drawn to A Perfect Circle's cover of Lennon's "Imagine". Much darker in sound than the original, which I also like, and the video is thought-provoking if sometimes graphic.

Then what was the STYX tribute cd? I agree it was hprrible renditions, but it was done.

Not to mention that many bands would have difficulty in the complexity of some of the tunes.

There was a Styx Tribute CD ? I guess thast shows how far "out of it" I really am.....

Someone fill me in on this please, did anyone particularly notable contribute ? which songs, and were any of these covers any good ?

I have never encountered any remakes of a styx song on the radio, at least that I can recall.

News to me, too, classic. In my mind, it's one thing to listen to a tribute/covers album by a band that you like. It's another thing to hear other artists cover the band that you like. Normally I'm pretty open minded about music, but I've no interest in other bands covering Styx music. (And yes, I realize that some of you believe that the current lineup fits this bill  )

Well, after Eric Cartman did his version of "Come Sail Away", I doubt any other band felt they could come close to that version. He definitely made it 'his own'.

Okay, these are the "cover" songs that I like:

"Give a Little Bit" - Goo Goo Dolls
"It's My Life" - No Doubt
"Boys of Summer" - The Ataris
"You Really Got Me" - Van Halen (Good choice)
"Big Yellow Taxi" - Counting Crows

Any covers that Dennis sings - just awesome, his whole 10 on Broadway :)

You know, 60-year old Rod showed those young "newbies" what rock and roll is all about. I thought he out-sang and out-performed everyone onstage with him.

While RT's version of Maggie May was good, the original is so definitive, NO ONE should try to cover it in my book.

But that is just me.

I thought Rod was amazing. I'm not a huge Rod fan but I'm considering going to the Milwaukee show.

Rob was awesome, in my book Rob can cover "almost" any song - LOL I'm just giving you a hard time. Dennis can cover "almost" any song too, in my book. 8)

I thought 'Got To Get You Into My Life' by EW&F was a strong cover. So was 'With A Little Help From My Friends' by Joe Cocker. And I liked how the Ataris gave 'Boys Of Summer' top a new generation.

Has anyone heard Tommy Shaw's cover of "Spread Your Wings" from the Queen tribute album? I can't find it anywhere.

Froy: Name 1 remake by a classic rock band from the 70's and 80's that worked.

Adam: That’s another incredibly qualitative question designed to make a specific point, in a manipulative way. First, why do you limit it to a cover by “a classic rock band from the 70's and 80's”? In other words, a 60s or 90s band COULD have a remake hit, but that wouldn’t suit your point, would it?

Secondly, okay, I’ll take the bait. You ask us to name 1 remake by a classic rock band from the 70's and 80's that ‘worked’.

Neil Diamond undoubtedly peaked in the 70s.
The Who undoubtedly peaked in the 70s.
Elton John undoubtedly peaked in the 70s,
and although they’ve had hits since, I think everyone would consider Aerosmith a 70s act .

Froy asks us to name 1 remake by a classic rock band from the 70's and 80's that ‘worked’.

A list of Froy’s fave covers (as he reported elsewhere):
Neil Diamond Unchained Melody off the Stages cd better than the original
The Who Saturday Nights Alright For Fighting
Elton Pinball Wizard and Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds
Aerosmith Come Together

Right! So Froy I named AT LEAST 1 remake by a classic rock band from the 70's and 80's that ‘worked’. There ya go. Have a nice day.

PS It doesn't matter to ANYONE that Neil Diamond and Elton John are not bands. NAME ONE RADIO STATION THAT ONLY PLAYS BANDS. NAME ONE RECORD COLLECTION THAT ONLY INCLUDES BANDS.

Your qualifying is psychotic and pointless.

My question was bands not solo artists

How about "Love Hurts" by Nazareth. The song was originally written and recorded by Roy Orbison....

Adam: and I answered it, as have many others. You asked to be shown 1 track. We came up with a number of them. Are you happy yet?

Heart - Battle of Evermore
Angel Dust - Kill The King
Angra - Mama
Engine - Fascination Street
Guns n Roses - Sympathy For the Devil
House of Lords - Can't Find My Way Home
Jag Panzer - Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald
Jeff Healy Band - While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Queensryche - Scarborough Faire
Ugly Kid Joe - Cats in the Cradle
White Lion - Radar Love (maybe not better than the original - but its cool)

...and looking forward to hearing the cover of Land of Confusion by Disturbed
