looks like a lot of classic groups play the same size venue as Styx does. Seems like an overall genre issue.

Coupla things surprised me. Def Leppard/Cheap Trick. I would think these might sell out and they didn't -- though they got nice numbers on a few occasions.

Velvet Revolver/Hoobastank. Well, at least for that one listed, surpisingly small numbers.

And poor Krokus!! OY!

Well done indeed.
I would have loved to see this one, with him back with Ronnie Montrose.
The 2 first Montrose albums were amazing (still are) when they came out.

But if you look at the Bryan Adams/Def leppard, they do sellout...Guess Adams is the key..

That Sammy was a Montrose reunion thing that only did a few shows together.

Artist/Event: HAMMERFALL, EDGUY, INTO ETERNITY
Venue: House of Blues
City/State: Cleveland, Ohio
Date: Aug. 19, 2005
Attendance: 302
Capacity: 600

That's a damned shame. Hammerfall and Edguy could sell out a 2,000-3,000 cap venue (or come pretty damn close) if they'd get as much airplay as Slipknot.

Regarding HOB Cleveland, I wonder why they have 2 different capacity figures...The 600 figure must be lower level only, as balcony is reserved seating. We did around four hundred seventy something last weekend there, which, in looking at some of the figures above, makes me feel pretty damned good!

I bet you're right with the capacity figures and what level/s are open.

When Styx played at the HOB in Cleveland (1/26/05), the capacity was 1,200, they sold 660 tickets @ $40.00 each.

No offense, but compared with a national band you did DAMN good!!!!

They did a little better at the HOB in New Orleans (10/28/04), the capacity was 1,000 and 732 tickets sold @$30.00 each.

Styx sold out one show in 2005 (that I have figures/facts for), in Columbus, OHIO (3/15/05) Capacity 1,045, sold out (100%) tickets @$25.00-65.00 each

Wow, I can't believe Styx didn't sell out in Cleveland. That place is awesome. Of course, our tickets only cost $10-15 bucks each...HOB management wants us to get to 900 eventually up there...Mighty big numbers, especially considering the figures above.

Weather might have been a factor, January in Cleveland, I'm not sure.

These bands are interesting too, with the amount they're touring, similar venues, line-up changes, tickets sold, etc. These are the bands that I grew up with in the 1980's.

Journey, Kansas, .38 Special, REO Speedwagon, Foreigner etc.

Journey I found out gets paid more than the above bands mentioned (hard tickets & soft tickets), selling more tickets than all of the bands (above mentioned). Overall they're doing great AND they're playing some of the same venues or even larger venues.

Journey has had this current line-up for 8 years.

I'm working on the Foreigner information, especially with a brand new line-up and how those ticket sales have been compared to the past few years.

Even when Styx was touring with Frampton/Nelson ticket sales were not the greatest:

6/17/04 Charlotte, NC (Amphitheatre) Capacity 18,812, tickets sold 4,758 @ $7.50-32.00 per ticket.

Styx and REO, ticket sales weren't the greatest either.

I know, yada, yada, yada, if they took a break from touring the same cities or changed their set list things would be different.

Would a new cd change things for the next Styx tour to get these tickets sold?

Would a new set list and promoting a new set list change things?

Would a break even matter?

Is it better to just play the soft ticket venues, festivals, fairs, etc. and not worry about the amount of tickets to be sold. Just go to the venue, play the music.

Just thinking out loud - LOL

Journey is able to command a pretty penny for their shows, even after touring into the ground for the past 6-7 years....I know they are still at least getting $75-100K. 2 years ago it was $150K minimum.
