Question: Styx circa 1998/99...

Postby RossUK » Thu Dec 08, 2005 11:18 pm

I know that their was only one show with Dennis, Glen, JY, Tommy and Todd (The last DDY show in florida in june 99)

But when was the last time Dennis, Tommy, JY, Chuck and Todd played together?

This is just for my vast Styxknowledge folder. :)

I dont know what happened after the 1997 grand illusion tour. Did they tour in 98? or had the struggles within the band mean they didnt gig?

I think the very last time Dennis, Tommy, JY, Chuck and Todd performed together was for the Children's Miracle Network (CMN) June 1999. At this time Gowan was already chosen to take Dennis' place.

Yep...last gig with that lineup was CMN show, Florida as Suite said. Very bittersweet to watch it now.

with much respect guys the CMN show was with Glen on bass not chuck.

Its not the last gig with dennis I want to know about (I've got it on video. v.sad to see dennis in this performance)

I want to know when the last show with DDY, TS, JY, CP and Todd.S was?

It must be before march 99

i know that the guys hadnt spoken since around march. and didnt see each other before the CMN show in june (featuring glen on bass). must have been like hell for all parties.Ive read that Todds kit wasnt his own etc etc. Trust styx to be able to pull this performance out of the bag though. I love the unsuspecting presenter at the end of the show "You can tell theyre a band ladies and gentlemen!!!" Oh little did she know

 Poor Glen, that's right he was in the back for most the CMN show.

I can't find any 1998 tour dates. This is what I found on Mark's site before the "Brave New World" tour which started July 8, 1999.

Jun 01, 1997 Atlanta, GA Lakewood Amphitheatre Pat Benatar
Jun 05, 1997 Milwaukee, WI Marcus Amphitheatre Pat Benatar
Jun 06, 1997 Chicago, IL Rosemont Horizon Pat Benatar
Jun 26, 1997 Allentown, PA Pat Benatar
Jul 24, 1997 Los Angeles, CA Universal Amphitheater Pat Benatar

June 24, 1997 (?) Last concert with the line-up of Dennis, Tommy, JY, Chuck and Todd

Early 1998 - Dennis illness gets worse, needs time off
Late 1998/Early 1999 - Current band looking for replacement
June 1999 - CMN, last time Dennis performs with the band Styx
July 1999 - New Styx line-up starts touring supporting "Brave New World"

Styx Circa 98/99

Postby jimmy19029 » Sat Dec 10, 2005 12:26 pm

They definitely did not tour in 1998 so it surely would've been in 1997. I saw them in Philly with Pat Benatar on July 6, 1997. The latest date I've been able to find online for that tour is 7/27/97 Konocti Harbor Resort Kelseyville, CA. But there were probably more dates after that. I haven't been able to find a complete list of their 1997 dates anywhere. In fact, no website seems to have an archive of their tour dates like other bands have(Deep Purple, Led Zep, Kansas, etc.) It would be nice to get one.

Hey, haven't seen you here in a while either :)

There has to be a lot more dates on this tour too, right? This was the 20th Anniversary Grand Illusion tour. Does anyone have a t-shirt that might have more cities or dates?

It was a GREAT concert too!!! I never thought it would be the last for me with that line-up. I thought they'd keep going and going, I didn't know any problems back then what we all know now. Bummer, again.

Styx 1998/99 Question

Postby jimmy19029 » Sun Dec 11, 2005 4:16 am

Hello SuiteMadameBlue,

I try to pop in every now and again. I'm on so many boards sometimes I forget to get to them all. Thanks for that link. I love things like this that give us all the archived dates. The majority I find out there on my favorite bands are incomplete and are works in progress that we're invited to send dates into as we find them. This one is a nice start of one that'll hopefully grow as time goes on.
That '97 show was great. Several people I worked with ended up at that show. They were all excited as it was their first time seeing Styx.
During one song a guy jumped up on stage and began to mock ballet dance while Dennis was playing. After security came out to drag him off, Dennis laughed and said, "I wondered what all the commotion was about. I was thinking, 'Yeah they're really getting into me here'.

I'm looking for the early Styx concert dates from the early 70's, just love looking at the early venues and then how they went on to larger venues over the years.

Kathie has a nice site too with Styx concert dates:
http://www.kathieland.com/styx/styxwashere/index.htm

This might have extra information for you and anyone else :)

I saw Styx in '97 from the 3rd row courtesy of their website. Incredible show.

I caught a Sucherman drumstick. I don't think I've ever jumped that high, ala Air Jordan!

1998/99 Tour Question

Postby jimmy19029 » Mon Dec 19, 2005 6:52 am

It appears as if the cities on that '97 tour shirt are in date order just from glancing at the dates we already have here in this post. Looks like Seattle, Washington(late July or early August) was the final stop on the tour(unless more shows were added) and most likely would've been the final show for that lineup.
