O/T FOREIGNER NEW LINE UP LIVE CD REVIEW.......

Postby DarrenUK » Mon Apr 17, 2006 3:31 am

There's one customer review now at Amazon. The person rated it 5 stars and had this to say:

"Ok, I saw Foreigner on their very 1st tour (yeah I am most likely older than you!). They were fresh and exciting back then. 6 young guys bringing something fresh to the world. Years later after an incredible run of CLASSIC hits, Mick and Lou have gone their seperate ways. Lou has his band mostly of relatives (I can't speak for their quality) and Mick has retained Jeff Jacobs on keyboards and added Jason Bonham on drums, Kelly Hansen of Hurricane on lead vocals, Thom Gimbel on rhythm guitar & sax, and Jeff Pilson on bass. I was so blown away by this CD that I now have front row center tickets to see them this summer. WOW! I had heard that people seeing them last year didn't know that 5 of the players weren't original members but I was skeptical. This band ROCKS! Congrats Mick on keeping Foreigner alive. All the songs are somewhat extended and rock harder in most cases than the originals. Juke Box Hero gets a super workout and includes Zep's Whole Lotta Love. I assume a tribute to the band and Jason's father. This CD is so cheap it is the DEAL OF THE CENTURY! Kelly is similar to Lou but wails. Gimbel gives Jr Walker a run on Urgent as well. If you buy this CD you will want to see Foreigner 2006 for sure!"

BUT ITS NOT THE ORIGINAL MEMBERS SO IT MUST BE CRAP.....

I guess a lot of my wishes/dreams are still coming true - LOL I was just going to post that I wish Foreigner would be coming back to the Milwaukee area and voila, they are !! What are the odds of that?? LOL Okay, all I need is Night Ranger & Journey that week. I already have Cinderella/Poison in July, REO in June, Frampton in August !! Keep 'em coming !!!

Foreigner will be at Summerfest on July 5th!!! I'm looking forward to seeing them, I can't wait. I keep hearing all good things about their concerts!! I guess I'll be camping out at this stage too - LOL I love the front row!! :D

Darren & Leesa, I wish both of you could come up here during Summerfest week and spend some time, I think you both would like it!!

July 5th Foreigner
July 7th Current Styx
July 9th Dennis DeYoung

I had my reservations about a Kelly Hansen Foreigner at first, thinking that Johnny Edwards did an admirable job on Unusual Heat, but after hearing some of the MP3 snippets with Kelly on vox, I admit he does a great job. While he is not Lou in his prime, neither is Lou anymore, he does a good enough job.

I would liken this to Steve Augeri in Journey. He's no in-his-prime Steve Perry, but he's about as close as you're going to get. While I will most likely miss the Foreigner tour this year, I certainly can't fault anyone who chooses to go.

Cheers!

I've seen Kelly with them twice and he is fantastic. Nice to hear a stronger lead singer after all the years of listening to poor Lou struggle. Hopefully Lou will get back up to full powere soon.

That seems a bit harsh. Not commenting on the new cd, but it's not as if Lou intentionally wanted his medical problems.

But hey...I am glad you liked it.

I was in no way slating Lou for his problems and I would love a fit and healthy Lou doing the business....i meant Lou who as a reference to the new singer being great.......not as a dissing of Lou Gramm

It never ceases to amaze me how people jump on board for shams like this as if it really is THE band.

Would it be ok if Paul McCartney starting calling him and his touring band "The Beatles"?

No... so what's the difference?

I understand your viewpoint.

BUT, can Paul call his band The Beatles? Does anyone actually know who owns the rights to the name? I'm very curious.

Mick Jones started the band and recruited Gramm so yes it is ok to use the Foreigner name as its primarily his band. Lou left before and Mick carried on with another singer so why should he not do so again.

If bands broke up after singers or guitar players left there would be no bands left........ Journey were formed by Neil and Greg so when Greg departed should the sham of the Perry led band have disbanded ?

If you are using the arguament that only originals should be in the band should Styx have gone and carried on when John was replaced by Tommy ?

The arguament that only the succesful line-ups of bands should be allowed to carry on is a bigger sham.....

ROTH QUIT VAN HALEN THEY CARRIED ON
HALFORD LEFT PRIEST THEY CARRIED ON
GRAMM LEFT FOREIGNER THEY CARRIED ON HE CAME BACK LEFT AGAIN SO THEY CARRY ON.

So because Perry and DDY dont want to tour the other members of a band and its fans should miss out..... there is an easy answer to the problem....do not go to the concerts or buy the music just sit around in your rocking chair with pipe in hand and slippers on feet and wait for the reunion tours that are never going to happen.

You're way over generalizing.

When a band doesn't exist for a period of time and a new incarnation is thrown together containing only one member who actually played a part in the commercial success they're attempting to live off of, it's quite different than a band replacing one member in the midst of a touring/recording cycle (i.e. VH, Journey in '80) and carrying on during the prime of their career.

It's as bad as "The New Cars" but at least they didn't have the balls to call it "The Cars".

This is just another case of a "band" trying to make a buck off their history with zero respect towards it.

And please answer my Beatles comparison Darren.... if you'd have no problem with this you should have no problem with that...

But its Mick Jones band ......

If all members of Bon Jovi left and Jon Bon Jovi decided to carry on with other musicians would he not be able to call it Bon Jovi ? or would it have to be New Bon Jovi ?

Journey have just 2 original members in the band and only 1 who has been their through the bands lifespan......The new Journey perhaps ???

From a legal document:
The name is owned by Sir Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Richard Starkey (p/k/a Ringo Starr) and Mrs. Yoko Ono Lennon.

I'm sure George's will broke down who inherited his share, I'd imagine it was his wife Olivia and the kids.

No it would not be ok unless JY and Chick were in the band.
As far as Foreigner forget about it let them call themselves whatever they want. Its a cover band just like Styx .

Journey is a different story
Perry has and still does have the chance to join the band right now but he declines so onward they go without him.
Neal is everybit JRNY as is Ross and Cain
heck if Steve Smith or Ansley came back then it would be JRNY minus Perry.

Why is Journey any different ?

1 member of the band has been there all along.....just like Foreigner....keyboard player Jeff Jacobs has been with the band since 1993 .......

Journey is every much a cover band as the others if you are thinking like that....

You only choose bands as cover bands when it suits you.

Is the current Queen a cover band ?

Asia have been around since the early 90s with 1 original member in the band....cover band ?

Please explain what a cover band is......hasnt Santana played with just Carlos there from the original band ?.......if so i hope he will refrain from using the name soon.

Do I need to educate you with every band
Do you know anything about these bands?
Perry did not have a brain tumor that screwed up his career and made him sing and look like crap.

1 member of the band has been there all along.....just like Foreigner....

2 members have been with JRNY not 1 and Cain was the best writer the band ever had so thats 3 core members.

keyboard player Jeff Jacobs has been with the band since 1993 .......

Woopie who cares.

You only choose bands as cover bands when it suits you.

You ask 10 people on the street who Dennis DeYoung is and they say Styx you ask 10 people who Mick Jones is and they will probably say either they do not know or The Monkees never would you hear Foreigner.

Is the current Queen a cover band ?

They don't bill the shows just Queen Darren so no they are not.

I don't share your optimism. Unless you hand pick 10 classic rock fans, you're going to get a lot of "Who?" for your responses, much less any identification with Styx. And it would probably be even worse if you asked them about Tommy Shaw or JY.

I bet more people worldwide would know Mick Jones over any member of Styx.......i also bet more people worldwide would know Foreigner over Styx....... just mention the songs Waiting For A Girl Like You and I Want To Know What Love Is and you would get more of a response than Come Sail Away and Babe.

And if Mick wanted Lou out of the band because of his brain tumor he could of done it a lot sooner....Lou quit because he only wanted to play live shows only at weekends and spend time with his family.....Lou was not fired he decided to leave so your attempt to sensationalise his departure is wrong... (No deviance Kilfroy) or its a periodic hair clipping for you........or worse

Most fans are casual fans and recognize the group name over the individual members names. Hardcore fans know the members names.

If it was the other way around, Dennis would be able to tour on his name not as The music of Styx, Mick would be able to tour on his name without using the Foreigner name, Rick Emmit wouldn't have to tour using "formerly of Triumph", etc.

They all need some type of connection to the groups that made them/the band famous

How much do you want to bet?? Make your wager I'll be anything. No way, I totally disagree with your statement.

Darren, you know that I like you, but what the hell??? Again, I'll make another bet and the song "Babe" is known more WORLDWIDE than ANY song from Foreigner.

I will find the proof. Make your bet now!

It could be argued that Journey falls into the same category as this new Foreigner, however at least Journey still retains 3 guys that were part of the band at their commercial peak... so it's not to the same degree.

Forgeigner is even worse... it ceased to exist... then was brought back with a who's who line-up (Pilson, Bonham) and taken out on the road with a sounda-alike vocalist living off past glories.

Sorry, but it's bogus.

Darren, don't fight me on this one. I win, I always win an arguement, ask Styxfan NH !!

I'll find more proof

Who gives a flying leap who is what bands anymore. There's nothing that us fans of music can do, so let's just enjoy the concert season and have a blast.

If you don't like a band because of the politics, then don't go see them.

Some of these guys continue to play because of the love of music, more power to them, I love them.

Some of these guys need the money so touring is their job and they are just going to work, okie dokie, that's fine by me. People need to work.

OMG, Like...OMG

There are 12 tenths of a mile in a mile.... Yeah, I gave up that fight...

or the length of a city block is not a standard unit of measure.... (In the Big City, we don't go by number of cows on the front lawn)

from Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_block

City Block

A city block is a central element of urban planning and urban design. A city block is the smallest area that is surrounded by streets.

In many areas of the world, streets are traditionally laid out on a grid plan, so that city blocks are square or rectangular. Since the spacing of streets in grid plans varies so widely among cities, or even within cities, it is impossible to generalize about the size of a city block. However, as reference points, the standard block in Manhattan is about 264 feet by 900 feet (about 80 meters by 270 meters), or slightly over five acres (two hectares); and in some U.S. cities standard blocks are as wide as 1/8 mile (660 feet or approximately 200 meters), or 10 acres (about 4 hectares) if square.

Don't forget to keep searching until you find the answer you want Suite. We know you're always right....

who gives a shit?

You talk about how great "I wanna know what love is" and "Waiting like a girl like you" when both are bigger sissy songs than Babe.
