JY the rock guy should re-listen to some of their vintage live stuff and bring back tunes like "Midnight Ride", or "22 YEars" where he not only sang, but he did guitar duels with Tommy.

I think JY's early vocals with the band are outstanding and I would love to hear more of the older stuff. His vocals just seemed to go downhill as the years went by. Not sure what happened? Guess his voice didn't hold up as well as Dennis and Tommy's. Nothing post-CB even touches JY's early vocals, IMHO.

JY's vocals were good from Styx 2 to GI, with PT in there. Then sucked al the way to Cly. cd.-ERIC

Where's that fire? It's not there. At least I'm not seeing it. Styx post-1977 is a much different band live, and the current lineup IMHO needs to rediscover that older band if they want to really be that stellar rock band they strive to be. The soundboard stuff from 1977 and earlier is amazing.[/quote]

I'm with you. They should yank out Southern Woman and Great White Hope as well.

I think JY does a fine job singing live.

GWH is a good choice. Styx did it live through 1982.

JY can talk about being a rock band all he wants, he's still basically just doing "Miss America", maybe "Lorelei" or some song off of Cyclorama ("These Are The Times"; not "Captain America"), and now some covers lead-vocal wise. DDY being kicked out has not improved his on-stage stature with the band when it should have.

These guys have every opportunity to rock more from their own catalog. Why aren't they?

Boy, good question. I keep hearing the rock aspect of Styx being touted verbally, but it sure doesn't show up in the setlist.

Great question! I'd love to see JY tear into more songs.

Personally I haven't caught the last two Styx shows because I'm finding things to be a bit redundant. I would prefer that they take a break for a while then cut a new record.

I too wish they would go deeper in the catalog. I saw them back in May for the first time since 1999. Better band now but I don't know if I will go see them again unless the set-list changes some. I understand 80 % of the audience wants the hits but there are those of us who would love to hear one of the deeper cuts. You Need Love? Absolutely rocks live! 22 Years? Awesome! The list goes on, heck even throw in Best Thing, JYG did it in 95.

And release that LIVE show from 77 or 78!!!! It was supposed to come out a few years ago. They were in their prime in those days and a classic live CD would hit the spot and maybe give them some inspiration to play some of those tunes.
