How was Asia ?

The show was awesome. I am totally glad I went. They stayed to the set list that appeared in the other thread.

The club held about 1200 it looked like and it was packed.

I did think the volume was a little low, but it was crystal clear.

The band came out after the show to sign autographs.

It had a litlle bit of everything. Each did a song from other bands they were with, a couple of Asia songs done acousticly and an amazing sound for the other Asia tunes.

Wetton's voice has held up very well and he was a madman on the bass. Howe what can one say - he looks like a professor and his playing can make you cry at his sheer talen. At several songs within the set, he played an electric guitar that was on a stand then switched to his sunburst es-335 as if the guitars were one - simply amazing. Never mind when he did The Clap. Downes played a very large keyboard double stack of old analog synths just like in the 80's before all this digital stuff came about. Palmer played what looked like a Ludwig Vista set (I think that's what they call it, if i remember correctly) a clear blue plexiglass kit. Again simply amazing.

I would say that at one point it appears they were using a drum machine as I could here drums and Palmer wasn't playing. And There was definitely a harmonizer running on Downe's mic. From where I was it appeared there were 2 mics side by side on his keyboard.

Wetton: Well this really isn't the 25th anniversary tour of Asia, but we're working our way towards it next year.

The guys clearly were happy to be together and the energy throughout the entire club was high. I am totally glad I went to it. And I can't say I was disappointed in any way. I'm hoping there is one more album left in them. I will definitely see them if they come back.

Definitely a group that is part of Rock's royalty.

The set was 100 minutes plus a 10 minute 2 song encore

If Asia came through town I would go.It could only be better than when I saw them after there first album.
They were so corny and almost unbearable to watch.Great songs but there behaviour on stage was so embarrassing.Carl Palmer, after his drum solo would practially stand up and beg for applause while he was pounding his chest like Tarzan.
I did see Carl Palmer band a few months ago and it was great.Humble and stellar behind the drums and bringing a long a couple of incredidle kids on guitar and bass.

Ahh crapola!

Feel like I've slipped back almost 25 years in time! Back in 1982 Asia tickets sold out almost the minute they went on sale. I ended up being left standing outside the venue with not a ticket to be had....Then another show was announced and I got right on it and was able to get a seat and catch the original lineup in action.

In recent years Wettonless lineups have toured and John Wetton has done so on his own as well. And....they practically had to GIVE tickets away!

NOW....they're back.....AND SOLD OUT AGAIN!

I called today and there wasn't a one to be found! DANG!!!!!

DEJA VU! Is it 1982 again? WOW! I'm happy for them but sad for myself. I really wanted to see them, especially since the show has gotten RAVE REVIEWS. Heck, seven years ago when a reunion of the original four was floated, promoters didn't want to know! I guess VH1 Classic promoting our classic rockers makes all the DIFFERENCE in the world! Well, good for you Asia. But damn, I hope you guys book another show......

I am curious with you froymeister.You have mentioned Drama twice.I love Drama myself.There were talk about The Drama Yes touring Drama again.That I really would have liked to see.
When I saw Asia touring first album,there were pretty limited cracker songs due to one album material.
This tours setlist looks very nice indeed.
I always had a soft spot for Fanfare,hence my liking to the 1rst Styx album.

Wow! talk about memories.

I caught their show on their first album tour in Ames IA. We camped out 3 days for tickets. They sold one side of the theater in one location and the other side in another. I was front row center. I asked the girl sitting next to me how long she waited in line for her ticket. She said she walked up to the ticket booth about 2 hours after they went on sale and got front row center.

Oh well, we had fun camping.

I LOVED Drama! Thought I was the only one! I'm surprised you like it too, Froy, since it didn't have Yes's original singer.

I too was disappointed when the recent proposed Drama reunion was canceled. Ah well, Trevor Horn wasn't going to be there anyway.....
