No.... You are an embarassment.

JY is a SERIOUS embarassment. Talk about sour grapes/sore loser/jaded asshole. Unlike JY, people WANT to like Dennis... They hear JY talk ABOUT dennis and go "who the hell is this loser?". Why is that? Because people barely know JY's name in relation to Styx. Thats how bad it is for him.

If Styx had been on this show, you would be talking about it legitimized them.

And for the record, I never said Amazon counts - I said "for what it is worth". It's always a positive sign tho.

But frankly, you're a Styx Kool-aid drinker (or bathwater drinker as the case may be) so - it's not like I'm doing anything productive by pointing these things out.

From the bands, they picked THE VOICE that made those bands of what they were during their hey-day or are today. Dennis is THE VOICE of Styx. I love Tommy's music too, but Dennis' songs and songwriting is what made Styx on the map of success. Yes it was a combination of the band, that's a no-brainer, but it was Dennis who took them to the top.

Casual fans only know or can name Dennis and Tommy. Like I mentioned in a few posts, I'm on various music boards and those are the only 2 that are associated with Styx, they don't really know the others.

Why do people want to like DDY? I have heard the opposite from people who know him personally. It makes no difference to me. Ash you sure get worked up about all of this. I could almost picture you sitting there with steam coming out of your ears. :x I still support DDY to a degree. I went to see his free show a few weeks ago. I bought his live CD. I watched him on TV last night. But in my opinion Current Styx is much better then current DDY. I will always be interested in what DDY does only because he was PART of what I liked about Styx. His tastes obviously have changed over the years and mine have not. I want new Styx songs that sound like the Styx I grew up on. DDY no longer is providing that where as JY and Tommy along with the other current members of Styx are! You can keep your 10 from Broadway. I’ll keep Cyclorama and the other new CDs to come. 8)

ChiStyx...

I think Dennis is one of those people you either like or you don't. For me, I very much enjoy the fact that he has to some degree changed his style. I think he is quite capable of doing that which you like, while expanding his horizons. I would liken it to Robin Williams. If Robin Williams only stuck to Mork, what a loss we would have had. Now, I do appreciate and respect that you like a certain style. For me, if that style doesn't change and grow...it becomes stale.

As for his personality, many of us here could cite examples where he is either loved or hated for it. And somewhere in the middle is most likely reality.

I'm sorry, but I for one have got to say this...

Why exactly does Styx need JY again?

I used to feel that unless you had Dennis, Tommy AND JY it just wouldn't be Styx...but maybe I was wrong.

What about this for a line-up.

Dennis-Lead Vocals, Keys
Tommy-Lead and Acoustic Guitar and Vocals
Chuck-Bass
Glen-Lead Guitar and Vocals
Todd-Drums
Larry-Keys on Dennis led songs, Vocals with Dennis on Keys

Now that would be a Kick Ass Line Up!!!

I don't think you're off the mark in terms of most of the makeup of what could be a lineup. As I said earlier, Gowan or DDY's keyboardist would have a leg up since they know the parts, but I would give DDY's keyboard player the leg up here.

The best part about this lineup - no "Miss America".

Are you ready ... ready ... ready .. ready .... LOL

I don't mind JY, but I could do without "Miss America" in a live show. JY's vocal harmonies do help cement the Styx sound, but Glen could handle it.

DDY got a nice plug from Wayne Brady at the end of his appearance for the live album. I'm not saying that he'll go platinum from it, but that show is seen by a helluva lot more people all at once than 2 - 5,000 people a night.

** because JY doesn't like anyone using the "STYX" name, I've decided I'll refer to them as Stynx. Not original, but definitely fitting **

No steam coming out of my ears - I just don't tollerate bullshit - which you seem to be full of most of the time. To say you support DDY to a degree is laughable based on your comments about him every chance you get. I don't pretend to support Stynx the way they go around trying to senselessly destroy their own legacy - so why do you pretend to "support DDY to a degree". You seldom have anything really positive to say about him - so who do you think you are kidding?

You can feel free to like Stynx better than Dennis if you like. It's a free country - just do me and everyone else a favor and don't try to pretend to be something you are not. In the end, it'll just give you that much more credibility.

As to Stynx sounding like classic Styx - I think that's pretty laughable - but again, you're welcome to your opinion.

Also - some of us like all kinds of music - not just art rock. Sometimes it's nice to appreciate other kinds of music. Apparently - if it doesn't all sound the same then it's just not good enough for you. That's the kinda of culturally bankrupt thinking that makes most popular music today hits while the real talent wallows in obscurity.

I'd prefer Kyle Woodring in the band any day over Todd Sucherman. And besides, Kyle's been playing the songs people want to hear ... Todd's been playing "One With Everything" and "These are the Times" and a few dozzen other songs that nobody in the crowd knows or cares about.

I usually don't notice if Suzanne is "popping out"

When I first came on here I was calling the current line up at that time Stynx, then I got yelled at. Then when that cute carrot album came out I called them Carrot Styx, I thought it was cute since I couldn't even pronounce the album title at that time.

You guys are so funny!!! :D

crude.

ever wonder what people think of your wife/girlfriend when you are out in public? perhaps you'd like them to post their thoughts to a forum.

some day I'll have to tell you what I heard a few spanish speaking men saying when standing behind my wife and I in a grocery store. Did I mention I can speak spanish (or could at the time)

I'm sorry, but have to disagree here. Todd is a much, much, much better drummer than Kyle. Kyle has improved since that first orchestral show at the Rosemont - he really missed some fills that night, his timing was off at times, and he simplified a few things. Compare that to when I saw him last this year at the first two shows with Glen, and it is night and day, but he's still not doing some fills I'd expect him to do. Can't think of them off the top of my head, but he's never overwhelmed me. He does a good job, but if I had to pick a weak link in DDY's band, he'd be it.

Todd is a monster drummer, period. DDY likes him. So do the guys in Styx. Nothing wrong with that.

Michael Cartelone is a monster drummer.

Neither Todd or Kyle are monster drummers - but I prefer the way Kyle plays the songs I want to hear.

You misinterpreted me - I am not calling for a kick JY out of Styx petition. I was commenting on what was posted.

JY's harmonies with DDY and Tommy are arguably what made the classic lineup what it was. While he does have some venom towards DDY, aren't the relationships you have with people for a long time complicated?

I'm certainly not saying he's right, but each one of these guys is doing what they think is right from their perpective. You can just choose to agree or disagree.

Kyle does not channel John. He's a good 4 on the floor, but anything complicated I've seen him struggle with since, what, 2001?

Todd channels John and then some. Todd is well respected in the drummer community, and I'm sorry, you're wrong here.

I'm a bass player and I know good drummers. Kyle is average. Todd is not.

Now, Michael is good, but not great. He's better than Kyle. Todd is the best of the three, and is much more versatile.

EDIT: Thought of a moment Kyle botches - the drum fills in "Castle Walls". Way oversimplified. Todd would do 'em right. You can feel free to disagree.

Ash.. It wasn't an attack just an observation.

SO EXCUSE ME.

I honestly couldn't care less what they said about your wife, that's your business. Just like if someone said something about my gf, that's between me and him.

I've seen Todd live, I've seen Kyle live. No comparisons. Now you put Kyle on the road for 200 gigs a year for 7 years and let him work on his chops then we'll talk. When Todd's not on the road he's doing drum clincs and releasing "sample" drum sounds to other musicians.

Haven't heard to much from Kyle on that front..

As for Monster Drummers, There is only one "Monster Drummer" still alive. That's Neil Peart. Nobody even compares to him today.

I'm in a Rush tribute band and love Mr. Peart, but there are better drummers out there who are more versatile. No one compares to Neil at what he does, period, but someone like Steve Smith can arguable run circles around him in most other drumming arenas.

Neil still makes the top 10 if not the top 5 on my list of best drummers out there, but there are a lot of monster drummers out there. Todd is one.
