Styx goes live with 'Everything'

Just in time for the release of their new live CD and DVD, classic rockers Styx (tickets | music) have added more dates to their North American tour, which now stretches through May.
Dates kick off Dec. 1-2 in Las Vegas and the band will crisscross the US into March before heading to the UK for 10 shows in April and May. Then it's back to North America May 18 for a show in Kansas City, MO, and a three-night run in Rama, Ontario. US and Canada dates are listed below. The UK itinerary can be found at the band's website.

Styx's new live CD and DVD, which captures the band performing with The Contemporary Youth Orchestra of Cleveland, hit the street in November. The recording and film, both titled "One With Everything," are sold separately.

The CYO--comprising a 115-piece orchestra and 56-person chorus, all members aged 13 to 19--joined the rockers for symphonic arrangements of popular Styx tunes including "Blue Collar Man," "Renegade" and "Too Much Time On My Hands." The concert was recorded in May at the Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, OH, according to an article at the band's website.

The film is making the rounds on PBS in cities including Cleveland; Memphis; Waco, TX; Bowling Green, KY; Wichita, KS; Toledo, OH; Eureka, CA; San Bernardino, CA; and Kansas City, MO.

Somewhere along the way the New CD will be out in 2007. It’s listed in the new release section for 2007 on this site. DDY is not listed for 2007. What a shock!!! :o

Well if you believed everything you read on this site, Frontiers is a major label, Journey is better now than when they had Steve Perry, and DFB will release a new record in the new year.

I'm willing to place good money that DDY will have a disc out in the new year... and DFB won't. (By new disc - I mean a disc of all new material - no live shit, no retreads... all new songs).

You can't keep qualifying things. If Dennis puts out a CD of new music than you can buy and is promoted, then what the hell else do you want?

and besides, Frontiers isn't a "real label" if you ask me. Not to mention most of their deals (like CYO) are distribution only and not even "record deals" per se. Hell even I owned a record label for a few years (and --- I might add -- lost my ass AND my shirt... how's that for a combo meal).

Dennis isn't only selling his albums through his web site btw. his album was picked up by Rounder / Umgs which also distributes Alison Kraus and a few other acts here in Nashville. Not a major label by any stretch - but again - if you think wither DFB or DDY will be on A&M again anytime soon, you need to change the bongwater.

I thought that JY emphatically answered on one of the recent interviews that Current Styx is not putting out a CD this spring. Someone quoted that statement from him, I thought, on one of these threads.

By the same token, Dennis has stated in a couple of interviews now he will be releasing a CD of all new material (he has written 18 songs, will put 14 on the CD) this spring.

He is on Rounder here in the US and is apparently working with a label in Canada as well.

If you go to Todd's website under the Dear Todd section this interesting letter is listed.

Dear Todd
Well you just wrapped up your visit to the great Northwest, thanks for the great concerts. Saturday at Chinook winds was bittersweet as we know you will not be back for a while. I really enjoyed getting your autograph in Eugene and watching you get crazy on the drums. Hey, Last year at Emerald Queen my friend and I had a little something for you that you did not get... This year Tommy delivered for us... hope you enjoyed your custom "garment"!
Hey I really enjoyed the new songs, can’t wait for the new CD. I have not seen a release date for it. What can you tell me about it? Is it named? Anything would be appreciated. I loved the writing on the other studio albums and can't wait to enjoy this one.... and the tour that comes with it!

Take care, Cathy
--------------------
Hi Cathy,
Thanks for the garment.......
So, there's been a lot of talk and speculation on the internet about our upcoming CD. This is amusing to me as nothing has been recorded, written together, or anything at all much less naming it or setting a release date. It's impossible to do all that while on the road, which we have been constantly touring if anyone has noticed! I hope we work on something next year. We did record "Just Be" and worked on that song as well as "Everything All The Time", both of which will appear on the upcoming DVD with the CYO. It is my hope that we can get everyone together in our off time to start working.

Thanks for your continued interest and support!
Todd

I will be suprised if XXXX gets there new album out before Dennis. With all of XXXX "touring" they don't have time for a life more or less a new album.

Thanks

Styx is on Universal /A&M in the US

I know there is a lot of speculation but I still hope to see a new CD from Styx before the end of 2007. We’ll see what happens with the Other guy. I hope he does get something out this year. I am interested to see what he comes up with. There has been a lot of talk on this board about it being a “Rock” CD…..I’ll believe it when I hear it.

You need to do a fact check.

CYO - Does not yet have US Distribution - is only available in Europe on Frontier Records
Big Bang Theory - New Door Records / Universal
Cyclorama - Sanctuary Records

We're not talking the endless re-releases of back catalog.

He also got a deal to do a new album as well. Rounder picked up the distribution since DDY was doing well on his own selling it, and spawned the deal.

Rounder is ironically distributed by Universal, so technically they are ALL on Uni. Styx is on New Door, not A&M.

So? About 50,000 labels (including the one I used to own) are/were DISTRIBUTED by Universal since they are the largest distributor on the planet. They are NOT, however on A&M - therefore the need for you to get your facts straight.

As for the other question, I really not at liberty to say. So I guess you could call me a liar (and I suspect you will), but that won't really bother me.

Wow, you are one lucky dog!

Does it have that Styx harmony type of sound?

Acoustic keyboards or more synths?

Melodic sound?

What type of era? Grand Illusion Styx? Cornerstone Styx? Paradise Styx? Edge Of the Century Styx? Solo Desert Moon/BoomChild? Broadway stuff? Listeners want to know!

One song that I heard (2 years ago now-LOL) sounded like a cross between Come Sail Away and Piece of Eight. He's in the studio right now with the musicians working on the new cd. He's been playing one or two of his new songs during the soundcheck :)

ChicagoStyx, his first single will be released after the holidays, probably around February, yes for real!!

There will be a few songs that will have that Styx sound that everyone is familiar with, well Styx fans that are familiar with!

ChicagoStyx is erroneous about 99% of the time. Which is why he's so much fun to reply to. His last three posts in which he's made really big deals out of what he is saying have been debunked almost instantly.

Like I said in the other thread - he needs to put down the JY-Kool-Aid.

Or perhaps ChicagoStyx IS JY.... in the event he is - I want to say "JY YOU ARE A LOSER".

Are you guys killing me....

Rounder Records is a division of Universal in that it uses Universal as its distribution agent. When Dennis received his triple platinum award for the Symphonic CD in Canada, it was Universal that was there awarding him the plaque.

The DFB moniker is just stupid. Call them what you want. But it's stupid. Should Dennis now be called FLSoS (Former Lead Singer of Styx). Can't believe the third grade name calling playground behaviour that has gone on here the last couple of months. Can't call them by their real names.....oooooo.....helps me make my point.....NOT

All parties are releasing what they believe (and their record companies believe) will sell. Random Singles and ties to their past. IT's not a coincidence that other groups are doing the same things. Don't you get that the number of groups releasing cover albums is really a ploy by the labels to sell the original versions of their back catalog by re-introducing it to new markets.

We all sit here and bitch and moan about what the "other side" does or even better yet might do.

Something recorded and released doesn't meet the standards of what we feel they should release.

JY shouldn't be a lead singer, Gowan Sucks, Glen Should be back, Dennis is Styx, Tommy did Drugs, Tommy needs a bath, Tommy looks tired, Their hair is too long, His hair should be dyed... does it all really matter?

We all know JY still hates Dennis. Hell, JY just recently said he doesn't like acoustic guitars. He wants to Rock!! In JY's head that means distorted electric guitars, heavy drums, and screaming vocals, so be it. Most of us disagree with his view, but so be it.

Appreciate what we get, when we get it. If you don't like it, don't buy it.

For me, I'm going to drink some of the kool-aid, praise Styx, praise Dennis and wish everyone a happy holiday and Merry Christmas.

Well - with all due respect bud, I don't really care that you think it's stupid. Styx died in 1984, and then again in 1999. DFB may be "stupid" as you say it - but at least it won't get you sued right? Just ask fan web sites and DeYoung himself. Both of which have been sued or threatened to be sued for their use of the band's ever-so-precious name. Demonstrating absurdity through absurdity. Perhaps you didn't get the memo. Still love ya tho :)

Actually - the only thing that doesn't meet the standards is Cyclorama. Strange enough I actually bought Big Bang and may even buy parts of CYO (still waiting on A-B sound quality comparsions). IMO

Well I'm done with the drug comments. I was in a special place of hate there and it was a little below the belt - but certainly no lower than some others. The other bits are conversation that will be here as long as there is a forum. I'm not sure why you're here if you don't like the nature of the beast.

Actually - I agree with this to a point. If the guys in DFB could pull of the sound of a Stone Sour, Disturbed, Mudvayne, Evanescense, or some of these other really good modern rock bands - I'd likely be very supportive. I'd shit my pants if they changed their name, changed their sound, and turned into Stone Sour. If you like Styx - go out and buy "Come What(ever) May" by Stone Sour and see if you don't agree. I just don't find what they're doing very exciting - and I find their attitude toward their legacy even less exciting. (to put it mildly).
