How Perry and DeYoung are different!

Postby rajah2165 » Tue Dec 12, 2006 2:57 pm

I know there are a lot out there that talk about how similar the situation is between Steve Perry's departure from Journey and Dennis DeYoung's departure from Styx. (i.e. the behind the musics wre identical, both bands continued without them against their will, both drew criticism for their love of ballads, blah blah)

But here is how they are different. Dennis is trying now. He hasn't given up. He is still performing and still making records (albeit not as frequently as some would want). Perry has given up. He hints about making records and singing again, but never does. He never performs. Heck, he hardly ever even is seen in public (the White Sox and Hollywood Star the exceptions). Give me someone like Dennis who still is out there trying to make thing happen over a recluse like Perry. Of course I still think two of them touring together would be the tour of a decade.

I agree it would be the tour of the decade...but only to fans of the two bands. Most of the record buyers today weren't even born the last time Steve and Dennis were big time players. This is not to diminish the importance of that type of potential tour, just to kind of frame it in a bit of reality. That is of course if Steve could leave the cats and venture outside.

The tour of the decade would be Ringo and Paul
or Pink Floyd or Peter Gabriel and Genesis
Not Perry and deYoung ,

Doubtful Styx was a Perry fan either. Competing bands. Business as usual.

Another difference...

Dennis is out there working.
Perry just talks about it.

Forgive me my ignorance of all topics Journey, but, isn't Steve Perry having health issues? Also his voice is not the powerhouse it used to be? Or at least I was under the impression he could not tax his voice too much by doing a tour.

Mind you, I love Mr. Perry's voice. One of the best EVAH!

Dennis is kind of a phenom, though, to me, in that his voice still has that amazing range and power despite the workout he gives it in concert (sometimes two or three in a row).
