Just curious, how long...

does it really take to make a new album once the writing is done & the recording & all actually starts?

Seems like some are done in just a few months, & some take a year or more...or YEARS, lol. Just curious, thanks! :)

I'm not an expert but I think it depends on the artist. Some take as little as a month or two and some take 6 months to a year. I think Escape and Frontiers took about 6 months.

Practice: Almost a year ~ so that all of our songs were ROCK SOLID....then when we got into the Studio, it was (in a way) "autopilot", as far as "sounding well rehearsed and tight".

Recording: 1 Weekend...since "(studio) time is money", and, um, we didn't HAVE a lot, we did everything "Live" with scratch vocals 1 day; went back in and did all the "final front and backing" vox the 2nd day - on a Saturday and Sunday, in September 2005.

Depend's....creativity runs in streaks sometimes......sometimes your really inspired and have alot of ideas and it just comes pouring out....other times....nothing comes....then bits and bursts......then those dreaded times when the well seems to have run dry! ugh!....very frustrating! :( :)

Sounds cool, Nora. Years ago, I worked with two other guys and we produced an EP. The first thing we did was lay down the drum tracks (with the guitarist's rythym and bass coming through my headphones live). We built it from there.

Man, I've gotta dig that out and somehow get it recorded over to something so I can upload it to my computer. Any ideas...Nora? Anyone?

Thanks! I've always wondered what is happening when it takes so long, since my brother's band did the same as you, whole thing (9 songs) was done in just a few days once they got down to it. They had played live for a while too before that.

Then there is Guns'NRoses - check Andrew's home page - I think this has taken longer than Sgt. Pepper's so far.

Um....I guess if you have "GarageBand", maybe you could do something with it....? All that stuff is still a "new frontier" for me.

Forgot to add:

9 songs were already written by Mark ~ they were meant for a project in the late 80s - early 90s, but then "Grunge" ( :x) came in and killed off ALL that type of music. So, they were "in Mothballs"....they just needed to be learned. Plus, just to make it even MORE of a "physical challenge" for me ~ AND to put my Musical Training to work ~ I had to work out ALL NEW vocal melody lines....all of those songs were meant for a MALE Lead Singer!

The title track was written by me; "Soundview Jam" came about during one of our rehearsal sessions....just goofing around.

So, I believe that that's the reason why it took a relatively short amount of time to create "11th House".

Nora: forgive me if you've already mentioned this and I just haven't seen it, but where can your CD be purchased?

Melissa: Not sure about when Chinese Democracy will see the light of day, but the upcoming concert at ARCO Arena (as well as a few others) have been canceled so that "minor" (according to Axel) changes can be completed. Who knows?

Fred it's worth every penny. Great CD. Nora's voice shines on there.

(That'll be $5 Nora! :-))

Just purchased it via iTunes. The clips and bits I heard were pretty good, Nora! I'll probably play it in its entirety Monday while I'm working on the 'puter.

"God & Physics" has a pretty cool sound to it!
