A bad pic of Tommy

Postby kmd2009 » Tue Apr 03, 2007 9:50 am

I go to his site sometimes and there is a pic on the news page picking the winners for some contest. Here's the link:

http://www.tommyshaw.com/news/news.htm

He looks bad. That's just me.

He does look like he needs sleep in that picture. There are so many nicer pictures of him, I wonder why they used that one. His eyes look bloodshot and he looks like he just wants to go back to bed. Poor thing.

Even though that's a pretty sad picture of Tommy, I don't think there's any worse picture of him than this one (LOL)

I was going to say the same thing. He looks very thin. Now... this IS Tommy Shaw and he's always been thin - but something looks kinda wrong. Aside from looking tired he just looks like he needs a break to get his strength back.

Differences aside - I hope Tommy has the good sense to step back and take care of himself. He's not 30 anymore. He needs his old man naps :)

Oh come on now, let's not be too harsh. I think this is a great picture . . . of Rebecca DeMornay, that is!

Guys.. don't forget Tommy has been battling with laryngittis and seems to be under the weather.

Have any of you thought maybe he has the flu or possibly tonsillitis? I know when I had Tonsillitis (spelling?) a few years ago it completely kicked the shit out of me and I looked horrible.

Hopefully he'll get some rest and recooperation before he leaves for England. If I were him I'd scrap the rest of the Shaw Blades tour and focus on myself. I'm sure they could make up the dates later on in the year.

But that's just my 2 cents (1.5 Cents Cdn)

On a more serious note, I really do hope that Tommy gets to feeling better. There's nothing worse for a performer than to get everything together for a show to go on the road, then to have to cancel shows due to elements beyond your control. That's frustrating, especially for an album that is just now starting to break and a tour that Tommy appears to be really enjoying. I hope they'll be able to make that up later in the year. For me, it seems like Tommy is more back to being his old self than I have seen him in several years, at the very least. I don't want this to derail that. I want to continue to see him enjoy himself and his music.

I was lucky enough to see 3 Shaw/Blades shows and I can say that both Tommy and Jack were having a great time. Tommy was really back to his old self I even got a hug from him and he said he was so glad to see us. Gosh he even started writing notes from the road and doing videos ala the old days, it was great. It is very sad that it got derailed by his sickness, the best thing for him to do now is rest and get better. I would love to see Styx take a break and Shaw/Blades go out and tour more.

Hello! Seeing is this is my very first posting on the message board, I hate to stir waves with a wise-ass comment. But I couldn't pass this up, and it's part of the reason I finally registered:

It is indeed unfortunate that Tommy isn't feeling well, especially since he has a brand-new CD to tour for. And postponing dates has really got to suck for him.

But... by his own philosophy... If you finish your recording and come time to tour, if you should fall ill, shouldn't you stay home and let your band tour without you? Wouldn't it be in Jack Blades' best interest to not wait for Tommy to get better, but simply replace him and tour anyway? They could still call the show "Shaw-Blades," of course... just have the audience find maybe Larry Gowen there with Jack when they show up? If you asked Tommy, I'm sure he'd tell you that sort of arrangement worked just fine for him last time...

Wow, to feel so welcomed. So... do you define anyone with a differing point of view an idiot? With that mentality, you might get along great with, I dunno, Hitler or something. So please explain to this idiot, just how DID you "hash out years ago" something that's developed in the last week or so? You knew Tommy was gonna get sick too? Yeah... well if he can go straight to "idiot," I can go straight to "Hitler." If I cannot be SHOWN sensitivity, why on earth should I show it? It was just a tongue-in-cheek harmless, and relatively true, observation I made. Didn't deserve the name-calling. :)

My God. You. People. Are. Insane. No, really.

Tommy's been ill with strep throat or something. Judging by the date in that picture, it looks like it was taken right in the middle of it all. *One* person thought to mention that. The rest of you seemed to lay in wait for another (yawn) opportunity to jump on the "Tommy's old and doesn't take care of himself" bandwagon  . I admit, I kinda chuckled at the "illness" parallel. Maybe it's just me who understands the value of sarcasm (it is the lowest form of communication, after all, why wouldn't I? lol), but it didn't take long for one semi-joking remark to turn into an all-out war of dead horses. Good grief. It's pathetic already. No wonder Styx fans are their own paradies.

On a side note, I wonder, of how many people are quick to judge how poor Tommy looks in this picture have taken far worse shots themselves? I'm willing to bet there are some SCARY photos of each and every one of us floating around out there. Big flippin' deal.

Now, I'll sit back and wait for Rajah or Annie (ahem) to make an oh-so-original pot & kettle reference -because you know, a day without that is like a day without sunshine.

If you want to feel welcome you should ease yourself into the community not start chucking grenades from the get go. Your comparison between the two situations was simply meant to get a reaction. I guess I played into your hand.

And yes, regular members of the this and other Styx forums hashed the Dennis ousting from the band years ago. Most of us have moved on.
