DDY at the CHOM Show in Montreal (w/ Glen)

I happened to be in Montreal for something else and decided to catch the show at Bourbon Street North which was a venue about an hour outside of MOntreal. No seating, basically a lawn place, but at a minimum, I'd say it was somewhere between 3000 and 5000 people (possibly more). It's an outdoor venue and the weather was beautiful.

Quick note - the show was just about 2 hours. He did three tracks from the new album, "Castle Walls", and "Edge of the Century" as the Lost Treasures. It was a good show, but having seen DDY live a lot, it wasn't his best show. Early on there were sound issues, and it seemed odd when DDY would go for some high notes, and times when he didn't. The guitar player from "100 Years from Now" was there, and that made for awkward times with Glen, Tommy D, and him on the stage. Although at times it was very entertaining to see the styles contrasted. There were also some keyboard flubs I heard, too.

The crowd reacted most to "Mr. Roboto". "The Best of Times", "Babe", "Come Sail Away", and "Suite Madame Blue". SMB and CSA were the two encores, and I have ot say, I now understand Montreal's love for those songs especially SMB. The crowsd was LOUD - louder than any other audience I've pretty much heard for Styx or DDY - on those songs.

What songs from the new album were played? Was Eric there to do "100 years from now" or did he duet with someone else?

The three songs were "100 Years from Now", "Save Me", and "This Time Next Year". "100 Years From Now" was done with the winner of Star Academie, not Lapointe. It sounded better to me with a voice that was not as "rough".

You're not just whistlin' Dixie here - I was standing about three people back from the front of the stage, right about mid-stage, and there were times when the crowd was so loud, you couldn't hear DDY! And this was with 8 feet of speakers on each side of the stage and extra amps!

I admit I was one of the loud ones up front. I had an absolute BLAST. Most fun I've had sober in a long time!! (NO, I'm not an alcoholic, I've had the same beer in my firdge for a year now).

I honestly didn't think Stephane Dufour would be there because this particular holiday is very important for most Quebecers and I thought for sure he'd be with LaPointe. I'm glad he was there though, because it made for quite a sound with Glen, Tommy and Stephane! Yeah, you could tell they weren't used to each other yet, but they seemed to have a good sense of humour about it.

DDY's voice, when it could be heard that is, was strong. I was impressed by Glen Burtnik who, unfortunately, only got to sing one song, probably because they've got to get those new CD songs in because they're in Canada.

All in all, great show. Wish I could do it all over again.

April Wine opened for them and they absolutely rocked! Just like they did 28 years ago when I first saw them in Nova Scotia. Same lineup except for the bassman.

Actually yes he does. He's always done it that way on the shows that I've been to.

I prefer the music version too.
