Please to be explaining how, aside from use of a name, the band is "trying to pass themselves off" as anything other than who they are. Like the lineup or don't, but this idea of equating member changes to perpetrating a fraud is just silly.

Stabbim,
We all know that Styx hasn't been Styx since JC left. THey've been frauds ever since.

Believe it or not, I had to think it for a minute before realizing what the letters "JC" stood for.

Well, I wanna say they've sucked since Tom Nardini quit, but at least then they had the decency to change their name to Styx instead of trying to pass themselves off as the real TW4.

Comparing the contributions of John Curulewski to Dennis DeYoung is oh so funny.

I expect nothing less from those that just don't "get it".

About as fun as watching Tommy and JY turn this whole thing into a train wreck.

Read this:

They played Tubac or Tumacacori or some other two-bit indian town on the highway between Nogales and Tucson sometime last year.

I'm in northern México.

For some reason, a friend of mine came up with the idea of bringing them home for a show (we're talking a 1 million population city, aprox.), and they wanted to charge $80,000.00 US plus expenses!!!

Expenses: P. A. system, catering, 5 star hotel accomodations for a shitload of people, X number of first-class plane tickets, et al.

My friend had to laugh at their road manager or whoever it was.

I mean, how much are they getting for a gig nowadays? $10K - $15K for all of 'em?

Needless to say, Styx will always be far from playing here!

Im going to the show next month. I like both bands but am not sure that this is such a good combination. I have a feeling that many Styx fans probably hate Def Leppard. Is this true? ACDC, Bon Jovi, or even Aerosmith may had made more sense as an opener for Def Leppard. Styx is a band that I loved up until about 1982, then hated after that. The cheesy ballads, mr roboto, crappy love songs, stuff like that just wont play well for the Def Leppard crowd.

How are the reviews of all 3 bands so far? It should be a good show.

Then Styx of today is the version for you, because they just don't touch that stuff any more.

Well, maybe not Ha-ha funny, but....

There is a band that you used to like, but now that your favorite member of said band isn't with them, you don't like them anymore. It's not exactly an intricate code to crack.

Unfortunately it gets retarded (not to mention disingenuous) when folks start trying to elevate it into some kind of moral issue, instead of leaving it a simple case of personal preference.

Ain't that the truth...Styx of 2007 is just diluting the brand name STYX with their shenanigans. Tommy will bail soon if he can make more $$$ with DY. Then Styx will be playing weddings, and still have a horrible singer in Lawrence!

$50,000 a night? $35,000? ???

After expenses, what amount would a JY or TS actually receive?

Just curious.

15 tops split 5 ways

Oh come on, you know that it isn't split 5 ways. From what I understood, JY gets the most, then Tommy. Todd, Larry and Ricky get only so much per show. When Chuck performs, he receives so much per show too. Doesn't Dennis even get a tiny bit from each concert? Anyhoo, don't forget the road crew needs to get paid and with some of the county fairs or other types of venues, some of their meals and lodging aren't paid for.

So if they end up playing a venue that's Hard Cash, not based on ticket sales, they could receive anywhere from $10,000 to about $20,000. If you think about it and who they all have to pay just to get from show to show, they really don't receive a TON of money.

What still baffles me is the health insurance and how much they have to pay.

There are a few exceptions to this, one of which is Rush. I saw them last night and they were great. I've seen them every tour since 1987, and this was one of the best times even with some set list issues (IMO). The current Styx or DDY show doesn't hold a candle to the Rush show, nor do I expect them to.

Oh Allan, I LOVE Rush!!! I CAN'T wait to see them in September!!!! I have their cd, their new MVI thing and also the Special Edition LP. I'm SO excited and can't wait!! I've been seeing them since the mid-80's!! One of my other favorite bands!!! Come to the show in Milwaukee, I have an extra ticket!!!! :D

I just saw Rush for the first 2 times this past saturday and 7/4, they were awesome. It was the best effects and lighting at a show that I have ever seen. It was a very classy, professional show in every way. If you are even a casual Rush fan, go see them, you won't be disappointed.

Wow, you went 2 times?? You are SO lucky!!! I agree with everything you wrote!

I haven't heard or read anything negative about this tour. All positive!! I'm taking my oldest son to this concert, I can't wait. He's so excited and have been playing a lot of Rush lately.
