She is so great! My favorite on the show this year, too, in a mostly boring year for AI. However, I have heard that Lakisha knocks the walls down on the tour with her performance of "I Have Nothing" (I think that is the song. A Whitney song)

I didn't bother seeing the tour (they opened the tour here in Ft. Lauderdale) because I was disappointed with the season this year, even though this was the first season I've watched from beginning to end save the season finale because I dropped it like a hotcake After Melinda was voted off - what a crock of horseshit...but I digress. I bet Lakisha does sing the hell out of that song. She was one of the better ones, as was Phil Stacey, who, for some reason, got a lot of negative criticism. Anyhow, Melinda made all worthwhile for me. I have never been so enamroued with an Idol contestant as I was with her. Damn good singer. I'm glad we agree on that! Whew...I was afraid I was gonna have to fight ya. LOL ;-)

Now that I can agree on - her getting voted off was as bad as Chris Daughtery getting voted off last year.

This was a great topic.

It seems LIVE is pretty consistant here. Funny that. They're also one of those underrated, underplayed, under-appreciated bands, but damn they smoke. I think Ed is brilliant. Saw them in concert a few years ago, and it was outstanding.

I forgot about KT Tunstall and 3 Doors Down too. Nine Inch Nails was big for me in the early 90s as well, and while I rarely listen to them anymore, I still enjoy them when I do.

I don't own any Marilyn Manson stuff, but I've always liked what I've heard.

Outside of the rock I listen to such as Styx and Rush (and others such as Bryan Adams, Macca, the Beatles, Howard Jones, Journey, Joe Jackson, Steely Dan, Elvis Costello, etc.), I mainly listen to jazz. Not many artists post-1970s/80s I care to listen to other than a song or two. Being in a band I'm exposed to a lot (and doing a cover band you know a lot of tunes); doesn't mean I like 'em. Some individual songs are good, but it doesn't translate into a "like".

Anyway ... other than jazz (which I'll spare you from ...), in terms of "newer" artists I've liked (and I'm talking buying more than one album and actually still listening to these artists today):
John Wesley Harding
Sheryl Crow
Oasis
Nina Gordon
Green Day
Foo Fighters
Keane

Hey... :? where's the boy bands?? And the rap???

Fessing up to having some 'nSync and Backstreet and Westlife in my collection. I have always loved boy band harmonies. But, honestly, if you put all those albums back to back to back, every single song sounds exactly the same. And you can always count on an "oh baby" and "girl" in every single song.

Also declaring proudly I have no rap of any sort. Ack!

But I do have lots of country. Favorites: Lyle Lovett, Clint Black, George Strait, Garth Brooks among many.

I have Justin, that counts, doesn't it?

Country? Shania, Dixie Chicks, Alan Jackson, Rascal Flatts, Vince Gill (who has the sexiest voice ever), and the classic like Patsy and Johnny. I'm a huge Patsy Cline fan.

Dixie Chicks?? I thought no one ever listened to them anymore. After seeing people destroy there albums a while back in protest. :D

I am still stuck mostly before the 90's and early 90's. Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Poison, Depechemode, guns and roses. I also listen to Stan Bush, John Cafferty, and just recently found band Solarcade. You can also through in Taylor Hicks. In country I have to say Alabama, Statler Brothers, Garth Brooks, Brooks and Dunn and a few others.

I thought "I Want It That Way" had a nice melody, and was very happy when Weird Al came along to give it a better set of lyrics. :)

Rap, pretty much old school for me: Run DMC, Ice Cube, Public Enemy. A few Eminem singles -- actually, I have a lot more rap singles than albums for some reason.

Actually, it was Shut Up & Sing that made me want to check out their latest... ;)

It's always been my primary thing too, but other than Rush (whom I never seem to get sick of) these days the urge to hear classic rock comes at me in waves. Once a year or so I will go through a major Queen or Who or Beatles phase that will last for a couple of weeks then burn out.

And there's just no way for me to listen to about 95% of the Pink Floyd catalog for pleasure anymore. Sad, really.

The new CD by Rooney called Calling The World is very good. I think fans of Styx would like it.
