Yes, this would be the full song and Dennis would sing lead live in concert. After he added "Pieces of Eight" to his concerts and it was well received, he was toying with the idea of adding this one. I'm pretty sure they practiced this one. I think it was going to be geared to the orchestra/symphony shows. Every time he starts with The Message, I'm just waiting for him to go into "Lords of the Ring". :D

Froy, I love ya. But a setlist without Babe is NEVER gonna fly. Ditto a song (Madamoiselle) by Tommy Shaw.

I love adding Lords of the Ring, but I think he has decided that one is a no go.

Love seeing Paradise on that list!

I am hoping Rubicon gets added some day. It would work with an orchestra, but there you go having to do that pesky, expensive scoring of it for full orchestra!

And what the hell happened to Best Thing???? It was one of the, uh, best things, he did for his LT shows.

I'm honestly not real crazy about that particular set list. While I think it would be a good to mix things up - there are certain songs I just don't hear Dennis singing.

Interesting thoughts tho.

Ooh, I wanna play:
(and I'll post it in green, so BuddyFroy will read it) ;-)

AD 1928
Rockin' the Paradise
Pieces of Eight
I'm Okay
Clair DeLune/Ballerina
Grand Illusion
Love At First Sight
It Takes Love
Paradise
Some sort of BNW medley:
Fallen Angel/Great Expectations/WTST/Roseland
2 or 3 songs from the new CD:
Rubicon
Rain
100 Years From Now (the song has grown on me tremendously since I first heard it)
Why Me
Mr. Roboto
High Time
Nothing Ever Goes as Planned (I'd go JUST for this song)
Castle Walls
Lady

Encore:

Not Dead Yet
CSA

I agree about Babe, even though I KNOW he'd include it, I still feel compelled to leave it OUT of my imaginary setlist. LOL
-Zan :)

Your right
But this is an overhaul.
Goodbye Babe hello Paradise

Ditto a song (Madamoiselle) by Tommy Shaw.

I agree but it would fit perfect after TTNY.

Wrong decide

Love seeing Paradise on that list!

I am hoping Rubicon gets added some day.

For sure later in the tour Save Me goes and Rubicon comes

IF you are going to bring Tommy out there, I'd do more than just HWBHB - How about BOTR? Renegade?

Plus you have to have a song or two in there for Glen.

I thought he was not fond of that particular song (its melody being included in Hunchback notwithstanding) so I'm kinda surprised/impressed at the idea of him considering it at all.

A new set would be nice but dropping Babe is a no-no, along with no Grand Illusion.

Froy,

Why in the world would you want Dennis singing a song that Tommy brought with him from his MS Funk days??

If you are going to do that why not give Glen some props and allow him to sing Bam or Another.

Tommy Shaw is a GREAT talent, but............ Dennis Deyoung has ALWAYS been the straw that stirs the drink.

Tommy was in the right place at the right time. After Equinox Styx was about to hit big with or without Tommy.

Shit, in my opinion Glen's better than Tommy in many many departments.

Tommy ought to thank his Chick lucky stars that Dennis and the Boyz found him and offered him a job. If not for DDY Tommy might have heard the background vocals of: ' Someone please reset the pins on lane 11 ' for many many years.

Dennis does NOT need to sing lead for MS Funk!!!!

Say what you will, but it's still all pure speculation. Styx COULD HAVE petered out after equinox. i highly doubt it, but we will never know. the addition of ts to the band was the spark they needed to propel them to the next level. while i think equinox is a better album than crystal ball, you could hear the influence t brought to the table immediately, especially since dennis was going through a difficult time and wasn't contributing as much to the songwriting process.

and i highly doubt that if styx hadn't given tommy his break, he would have remained in the bowling alley. its quite possible that MS Funk could have also caught a break. or somebody else would have picked him up. once again, you can't rewrite the past or change the course of events, so we will never know. Tommy doesn't need to bow down and kiss dennis' feet, just as dennis doesn't need to reciprocate. They made it TOGETHER as a BAND. :D

As for Glen being better than tommy in many departments, i think glen's better than ALL OF THEM INCLUDING DENNIS in many departments. :D He's the most well-rounded musician/songwriter the band ever had. Yeah, dennis might have had more "hits", but glen is no slouch, and many of his songs have been recorded by other artists, in other genres (as has tommy). He's a heck of a performer, heavily schooled in all things beatle, which no doubt helped contribute to his musical style. He doesn't tend to fall into the lyrical traps that Tommy & Dennis do. i also think that he's had more traditional musical training than the other guys, which helps in arranging and producing. He's very well respected and highly regarded by his peers, he's humble, plays his instruments ass-backwards, and is a bit of a knucklehead. Plus, he does a really mean Paul MaCartney! ;) http://s17.photobucket.com/albums/b82/l ... 9a2466.flv and that's all purely my opinion. lord knows i always have & will love T as well.

so... getting back to your post, dennis isn't the straw that stir's the drink for everybody. ;)

Excellent post!, but will Zan approve it?????

So if you were Dennis's would you cover Tommy's MS Funk song????

P.S. I would also scratch Lords Of The Ring. Isnt that a JY sung baby????

P.S.S. Question: If there is a really cold or inaccurate statement regarding Styx or Dennis what should we call it???????

We can call it a FroyZan comment.

I apoligize, I in fact have made a FroyZan inaccurate statement. The correct Webster 2007 definition of a FroyZan statement is: it is a musical statement with a hidden or obvious agenda attached to it. It may appear cold to some, it also may be inaccurate. This is how the term was coined.

Sorry for my mistake!!

well, first of all, it is a STYX song. TRUE, it was based on an MS Funk song, but so are parts of Ballerina. And Crystal Ball was written and performed when tommy was in Harvest. does that make it a harvest song? ;) but, no, i don't see any need for dennis to perform Mademoiselle. :D

***

P.S. I would also scratch Lords Of The Ring. Isnt that a JY sung baby????

I would scratch it too. never was one of my favs, and it has nothing to do with Lord of the rings, so i have no use for it. ;)

If I had my way, I'd do away with all the concert staples. I've also never seen Dennis solo, so my list is a bit heavier on the solo material.

Setlist:

Desert Moon
Don't Wait for Heroes
Gravity
I'll Get Lucky
Southbound Ryan
Boomchild
Beneath the Moon
Harry's Hands
100 Years
Rubicon
Turn off CNN
...I'm sure I'll get killed for this one...The Street Where You Live
Grove of Eglantine
What Has Come Between Us
Unfinished Song
Best Thing
Jennifer
Castle Walls
Queen of Spades
I'm O.K.
Borrowed Time
Why Me
Lonely People
Nothing Ever Goes as Planned
Not Dead Yet
...Once again killed for this one...Music Time
Goodbye Roseland

No posters were harmed in the making of this setlist....
