..and the best Toto album is....

Tough one. But I would have to go for KOD - with Isolation a close 2nd.

Kingdom Of Desire just ROCKS!! And the last Toto album with Jeff also.

Not really a weak song on there.. even Kick Down the Walls is pretty good.

LUKE at his best IMO.

Thoughts??

Tough one indeed.....KOD is indeed bloody good.....I also like 'Tambu' and the classic 'IV' gets a vote from me as well!!

'Seventh One' would be in the top 5 and I must say I do like 'Mindfields' as well....I like it a bit better than 'Falling in between' So I guess currently my top 5 would be;

KOD
Tambu
IV
Mindfields
Seventh One

Given that Toto has gone through a lot of changes, stylistically, depending on the era, this is tough. There's a total disco thing happening on the first album, but it's done really well....Hydra has elements of prog...Turn Back, while seemingly over-produced (seriously there is a ton of hiss on this recording), has some great rock tracks...IV, could have been another band altogether, but it seems like a more natural progression from the first album....Isolation is a bit of a black sheep - as it did the exact opposite of Toto IV...but it's great...The Joseph years, great great stuff, classic AOR both albums...Then there's the best of +4 w/Byron...Actually like those songs for what they are, very well played, and Jeff's playing in particular saves 'Animal' and 'Can you hear what I'm sayin'...Kingdom of Desire...Is totally rocked out and roll, done very well...If this was a new band without the name Toto attached, it probably would have done much betterl...Jeff shines here again, and of course Luke does too. I like Mindfields and I like Tambu, but I like them less than Falling In Between...I don't rate Through the Looking Glass as a Toto album, but a side project (Same with dune)...but for all the complaining that was directed at that album, I will say it's the best 'covers' album, I've ever heard...

So if I had to pick a favoriate, I'll go with The 7th One...Close behind is Isolation....Best latter stage Toto album, Falling in Between.

In my opinion they all have some gems on them. The hits from "Toto IV" are obviously the most popular, but I wouldn't say "Toto IV" was their best effort as a whole. I find myself going back to "Isolation" the most, and probably "Fahrenheit" the least. I've recently been coming to appreciate "Mindfields". Bobby's return is a welcome one; he really injects some life back into the band.. "Cruel" should have been a hit.

My personal faves:
1.Isolation
2.Turn Back
3.Mindfields
4.Toto
5.Toto IV

1. Fahrenheit

2. Turn Back

3. Falling In Between

4. Isolation

5. Tambu

To me Fahrenheit is the best Toto album, it is the one I listen to the most, and I think Joseph Williams vocals are just amazing on this album. Turn Back is a close second.

Ok - so my top 5 would be...

1. KOD (1991) - Pure ROCK!! And great playing by Jeff and Luke - loved the attitude.
2. Isolation (1984) - A great AOR album - but needs real credit because they went totally different to TOTO IV - that took balls!!
3. Tambu (1995) - Once again, totally different to the rest of the catalogue - more 'bare bones' if you like - great set.
4. Toto (1978) - Have always LOVED this album - this is the one that set things up - and not a poor song on there...
5. The Seventh One (1988) - Loved the sound of this - went back to TOTO IV vibe, but the songs are stronger than this album.

Worst album -
Would have to be Turn Back (1981) - this had that crap Geoff Workman sound (sounds like Queen, not good enough for Toto!) and the songs were pretty ordinary IMO.

I love pretty much all of their albums, but (in chronological order) my favourites are Toto, Hydra, Isolation, Seventh One, Mindfields and FIB. KOD is very close to those 6 as well!

IV is brilliant, but overrated (especially by casual fans) Fahrenheit is full of great songs, but is too ballad-heavy for my tastes and the covers CD is the one Toto album in history that I like less with each playing (so I've stopped listening to it altogether now).

It's ISOLATION for me...

Angel Don't Cry, Change of Heart, Carmen, Endless, Lion, Isolation (title track)...great songs!

Till the End is actually my favorite Toto song, though.

There all great cds except for their latest, i found it to be lacking a lot of hooks that are in all of the toto cds also not enough Luke singing.

Toto albums for me vary. There's some where I love them right through. Others albums, I don't get into much yet love a particular song (ie. Mindfields and the song MAD ABOUT YOU)

My favorites, based purely on overall enjoyment:

- Toto
- Hydra
- Toto IV
- Isolation
- Dune
- Kingdom of Desire
- Falling In Between

Isolation.

Speaking of which, here's Bobby doing a very capable Fergie cover until his voice goes off the rails.
I'm no vocal expert, but Fergie’s voice always seemed to occupy some strange high-pitched middle territory between falsetto and full voice.
VERY hard to cover.
Bobby, while great, has never been a satin smooth tenor, much preferring to shout from the pit of his beer belly.
