Still Listening

Postby bugsymalone » Wed Oct 15, 2008 9:56 am

I thought I would celebrate my 3000th post with this.

Still listening to DDY's "100 Years From Now." Have not gotten tired of it yet. It is in regular rotation with albums I listen to often.

If he doesn't release a US version, I find I am perfectly happy with this one.

Today I also listened to "The Grand Illusion" and "Pieces of Eight." Great recordings from a great band.

I wish I could say the same Bugsy, but I find myself very rarely listening to it now. Especially the French version of 100 years.. Eric's voice gets worse every time I listen to it.

But with the new Journey, Metallica, AC/DC, Tesla, Crue, Harem Scarem, out the last few months, 100 Yeras has definately been put on the back burner!

New Metallica and AC/DC sure, but 100 Years is still in the daily mix for me.

I was just listening to Rain this morning. I've been listening to a lot of different music tho - but whenever my iPod picks out a 100 years tune, it never gets skipped - so I guess that constitutes still listening.

I've been into JOP (Jon Oliva's Pain), Slipknot's All Hope Is Gone and Last Kind Words by Devildriver among a host of other hard rockin stuff of late.

I think it's ridiculous that it hasn't gotten released in the US yet. He obviously does not have a record deal - and don't give me the "Hunchback is taking up all his time" crap. Hunchback has been over for 2 months. How long does it take to rerecord half of a song?

He does have a record company (Rounder). What the holdup is on the CD is now pretty much a mystery. Perhaps it will not be released in the US. No one knows.

As I wrote above, I am perfectly happy with the Canadian release of "100 Years." Even the duet with Eric, Jodes! :P

And Jodes, of all of those new releases you listed, which is your current favorite? Any you recommend as a must-have?

Hmm.. well I would definately go with the Journey and Metallica. I would recommend the new Harem Scarem too, but if you're not a fan, you might not "get" their sound.

I haven't had a chance to listen to all of the new AC/DC or Tesla yet. I still have the new Alice Cooper to listen to as well.

Another CD that I picked up is the new Honeymoon Suite as well. I have to give it a few more listens, but its not bad so far. Still trying to get into the new Crue and Whitesnake.

Quite the year for music I must say!

Have to agree with you on those choices. Of all of the new stuff this year my favorites were/are Journey & Asia. It was a very good year for new releases and it appears that you have purchased almost all of the same ones that I have. I enjoy the Motley Crue very much, the Whitesnake not so much.

New Asia is GOOD, as is the new Whitesnake. I still listen to the Dennis cd as well, which is in my top 3 of the year along with the new Journey. Will be checking out the new Hugo/Ramos as well as AC/DC. There are few others I have bough and looking forward too. But not a bad year for music at all. Been a little behind since the move, but getting caught up.

I still listen to Dennis' album as well. As for my favorites for this year check out Steve Lukather's "Ever Changing Times" it is an excellent all around rock album. Asia and Whitesnake are honorable mentions as well.

Asia - Phoenix
Luke - Ever Changing Times
Journey - Revelation
DDY - 100 Years
Todd Rundgren - Arena
Loverboy - Just Getting Started
Rick Springfield - Venus in Overdrive

Are definitely my favorite MR releases from the last 16 months. I haven't heard Sparkle Lounge yet, the clips I heard haven't moved me enough to go buy it off of iTunes. Looking forward to hearing the new Tesla. Chinese Democracy will be terrible if Shackler's Revenge is any indication. God awful. No guitar melody, Axl stinks, blah.

I think the Loverboy album is honestly my huge front-running favorite on that list... there is not a single bad or even mediocre song on that album. So good.

I don't think he has a deal with Rounder. I think it must have fallen through. Why would it be over a year since 100 years was released and still no sign, no message, no mention of the US release.

It's dead.

Thanks for some of the tips. Oh yes, on Yogi's recommendation, Ehwmatt, I got the Loverboy release and I really like it.

I am thinking AC/DC too. I tried some Metallica clips and while I like some of their music, I am not a huge overall fan.

No interest in the Journey CD.

Hmmmm....Whitesnake. Does Coverdale still have a "voice"?

And Toph Dennis DOES have a deal with Rounder. I do not believe that situation has changed if you listen to some of his more recent interviews.

What I don't get is why DEP in Canada let the momentum of "100 Years" just atrophy and, I assume, die. What up with that thinking?

My guess? I loathe to say this and I hope I'm wrong, but they were only interested in helping promote their own Quebec artists/musicians. They didn't promote any of the other songs because none of them were in French. Ouch.

Ouch indeed, Amanda! However, DEP seemed to get behind the live CD and the Soundstage DVD, both of which they put out on their label and both of which did quite well in Canada.

Well, it is water under the bridge up there since all momentum has long since been lost.

I'm really loving Tesla's new one... Forever More. A lot of good stuff on that, although the single they released, "I Wanna Live" is probably my least favorite on it, but even that one is growing on me (the chorus is catchy)

Totally forgot about the Loverboy this year. An all around good album. I may have to pull that back out. The Def Leppard is hit and miss, not a total clunker but not stellar either.

I made it through 100 Years one and a half times. What a waste. The rose colored glasses must be pretty thick around here.

I am listening to the new Buckcherry - it rocks! and the new Queen + Paul Rogers - it could be better.

Hmmmm....looks like the one with the "vision" problem is you, kansas. A pretty good variety of folks here, who seem to like all kinds of music, are saying they like some, or all, of "100 Years."

To each his own, I will say again.
