  Dude... you SERIOUSLY need to lighten up and learn to have a little fun. All I did was pose a valid question. I'm a life-long Styx fan, and would love nothing more than to see them get back to their prime! I just raised a question to see how the other fans feel. I'll still love you like my brother!

Of course if he said how great Tommy was and how the new line up is great and how much Dennis sucks, he'd be greeted as a hero....

this is really simple. both the current lineup of styx and dennis "want" to call it styx. that's why they fought over the name. it's a proven brand built back in the days when individual band members were not all that known but the bands they were in were huge.

jy is an original member, chuck still participates when he can and tommy has been aroudn since 1975 and was certainly a key component of their "glory days". todd sucheman ha snow been a part of the band since 1996 and joined when dennis was still a part of it.

styx is a business and businesses experience turnover all the time. they have managed to keep that turnover to a minimal that allows them to still carry on with enough of the brand to still draw a crowd.

the fact that a band is still out playing the way they do at their ages to the crowds they still draw is pretty amazing. with that said.....i have no issue with them touring as "styx"....i have no problem with dennis billing himself as playing the music of "styx" either. i'm just glad they are playing.

people shoudl not get hung up on the fact that they dont sell out the "enormo domes" anymore....not many bands do past or current....with a few obvious exceptions. they love to play and that's what they are doing....just enjoy it. if you cant I understand....my brother struggles with it as well.....but you have a choice....just dont follow them or go see them anymore....those of us that are OK with can still go see them.

You will enjoy Cyclorama, guaranteed. Get 100 Years From now as well, Dennis's latest effort. Great stuff on both discs.

I didn't have my stopwatch going, but when they played Charlotte in 2007 they were first on stage, then Foreigner, then Def Leppard. They played a total of 7 songs.

That should qualify as a 30-minute set, a 3 act bill and within the last few years.

Just saying.

Well if you had your watch going you would know that those were 70 min sets. If they were to play 30 mins it would propably only get 4-5 songs. Don't forget you have to add time for larry's hey routine before csa :)

Which is a whole other issue....maybe if they stopped with all the banter and the 11 minute versions of Renegade, they could play a lot more songs....but wait...they don't play any of their Dennis hits...soo....they only have those songs to play...now I understand why they extend the songs so much and have so much on stage banter between songs...it's to fill up the time because there isn't enough music to do the job!

Because when Dennis was in Styx, there never was any talk between songs. Dennis just sang one top 40 hit after the other. If you want to bitch about people talking between songs, go see a REO concert.

When I'm in the mood for between song banter,I always put 'The grand illusion' from 'Return to paradise' ,on.

I know what you mean, but 4 minutes average per song is 28 minutes. Add banter and extended versions and it MIGHT have gotten to 40 minutes.

Seriously, I think including set change time, Styx was slotted 45 minutes, Foreigner 45 and Def Lep 90.

Honestly though, when has Styx ever done a song thats not less then 4 minutes live? Other then say Boat On The River, A lot of their songs are anywhere from 7-12 minutes long. Even stuff like Blue Collar Man and Too Much Time are over 5 minutes long..

This isn't like the Ramones who could run through 18-20 songs in a 45 minute set!

Also, from what I heard about the 07 tour, Styx and Forgeiner got between 45-55 minutes each when performing with DL. It changed by location, etc.

When Styx and DL played Canada they were CO-Headlining.. Yes Styx went on first, but both bands played around 80 minutes each.

Which absolutely ticked off the DL fans thinking that they were going to get 2 Hours like they had done in 05 when they came with the Tea Party, and in 03 when they came with Ricky Warwick.

Then there was the sound.. dear God DL's sound guy needed to take some lessons from Styx's people.. serioulsy! When you have to go behind close doors to make it sound better, you're guys aren't doing their jobs!

It will be interesting to see if DL does more then 80 minutes this October 31st when they are in Edmonton with Cheap Trick and how big the crowd will be because:

1) Length of Setlist
2) Their sound
3) Being absolutely outperformed by Styx in the live department..

Will history repeat itself? One only wonders!

Jodes,

Not really arguing with ya. :D You asked a question, I answered it.

I can only speak for the Charlotte show. Styx opened, then Foreigner, then DL. No co-headlining, DL was THE draw.

Little background...Styx has been my favorite band for as long as I've been into bands. (So long in fact that Zan, Suite and even Sadie's first digit in their age was 1_ when I started) :D

Recently, Def Lep may have taken first place only because they have put out consistent releases since High and Dry and their recent albums are solid. I am a Dennis fan first, but think Larry has been the best performer since he joined. I liked Cyclorama ALOT, but dislike 5 live albums and a covers album in the past 10 years.

FOR THE CHARLOTTE SHOW...Styx was going thru the motions. Same old, same old. Interestingly enough, Foreigner was the band that impressed the people I went with the most...NOT Styx or Def Lep.

Since Cyclo, Styx has done nothing worthwhile. Saw them in 2005, that was a better show than 2007 if for no other reason than they had more time and did the Cyclomedley (which I like).

Still waiting for a new release and I hope it's a good one. Just Be sucks, but Everything All the Time has promise.

Time will tell.
