In 1996? He was hired to be as low-key as humanly possible - just play it note-for-note. What was not to like? They didn't even put him on the posters, for pete sake.

But it didn't take long before I couldn't imagine seeing them live without him.

And he does the Corky St. Clair dance SO WELL! You really oughta see it. lol

When I first saw him with STYX in '96, I was a little disappointed that I wasn't seeing the original band. But he did seem like a good drummer and the youth factor was a plus.

In '99 I began watching him more closely. He is a dynamo. He made the song Half-Penny Two-Penny his own. It became a song just to feature his chops.

If you think he's a great drummer, you should hear him play the harp!!!

simply incredible.....i actually found myself watchign him alot on the 96 tour because of how he just owned those songs without "overdoing" it.....he was very respectful of the original parts but added alot of cool stuff to the songs. he made the band sound heavier in some ways as well.

I just watched Todd's drum dvd. It's really great.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

When I first heard him on Return to Paradise, it was a "holy shit" moment. I hadn't heard so much energy and tight playing since Steve Smith.

I had pretty much given up on Styx until that cd and his playing was part of the rejuvination.

Hence why thats my favorite live Styx CD.. Getting a chance to see this band live in 96 was a dream come true, but when I put RTP on that first time, it was Todd's drums that stood out first and foremost for me..

Todd is amazing, but I saw John play back in the Mid 70's and I don't know if most people here realize John was a monster on the drums in the early days.
He really was.
