*You missed my point entirely. This was not meant to be a lyrical pissing match. It was already "established" by "Toph" (if you scroll up, or look at his response in the "Girls With Guns" thread) that Tommy has written some less than stellar lyrics. He also claims that Dennis DeYoung's lyrics are always "insightful and deep" by comparison.

I only wanted to show examples where they were most definitely NOT any of those things. Tommy has written some extraordinarily thought-provoking lyrics in the past (Just Get Through, Man in the Wilderness, etc), just as Denny has. This whole "point" that "Toph" is trying to drive down our throats is stupid and lame. I give you more credit than that.

I know the last time I saw REO they were on fire. They went smoothly from 'That Aint Love' to 'Sweet Time', to 'Every Now & Then'' to 'Meet Me on The Mountain', to 'Stillness Of The Night' then 'Only The Strong Survive', 'Variety Tonight', 'I Need You Tonight', 'One To Many Girlfriends',

I mean I am pumped they are playing nothing but songs from my three favorite REO albums 'Nine Lives' & 'Life As We Know It' & Good Trouble. They then broke into 'Back On The Road Again' and wouldn't you know thats when Kevin starts his midget bowling rant.

This always happens when a northern rock band plays in the south.

I am soo damn tired of these 70's & 80's 'rockers' midget bowling or bannana surfing I can't see straight. Bon Jovi & Bob Segar do it now at every southern show as does Cheap Trick.

As for all you northern bands, just because you are playing in the south and we are now living in the south this is COMPLETELY uncallled for!!!!!

Way to RUIN a GREAT GREAT set Kevin & REO!!!!

Just because we live in the south we are treated completely different by northern rock bands.

REO is 100% on fire during their 'Obscure Hits Tour' they break into 'Back On The Road Again' the video screen has their Nine Lives Album cover displayed, then, all of a sudden the Nine Live album cover is gone and there instead up on their giant video screen is a picture of a midget wearing a NY Giants jacket.

Why do these bands think we will finds this funny?? Is it because we are southerners?? All of us are not backwards hillbillies!!! Then Kevin breaks into his midget bowling rant from 'back in the day' at some Ran Ham bowling alley in Bumble...., Mississippi.

It's old,it's offensive, and it's and NOT funny!!!

I heard Cheap Trick did the same thing while playing "Surrender" only the midget was not equated with the NY Giants, but with the film 'Remember The Giants'

Bob Segar did something with a midget wearing a 'Giant' the rock band' T shirt and on the back of the midgets shirt it read 'I will See You In My Dreams, Giant , 1987'

At least Styx hasnt resorted to this( may be because Tommy is from Alabama) ................... YET!!!

At any rate it is, NOT FUNNY!!!!!

Re: Styx/REO free tickets, no takers

fsutall wrote:I am fortunate to work for a company that has a corporate suite in our local arena and frequently shares tickets to events with employees. I work closely with the woman who manages the tickets, and have been able to attend several events that I would have passed on if I'd had to pay for tickets.

So I received a call from this lady last Wednesday asking if I would like free tickets to sit in our suite for the REO/Styx/Night Ranger concert tonight (Nov. 15). I almost accepted them immediately but figured I should make sure my girlfriend would want to go. Turns out she has no interest so I check with a few friends, including Sterling AKA Rockwriter. Still no interest (although Sterling has a good excuse in that he is hosting a new radio show Sunday evenings that everybody should check out, Long Live Rock at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/LongLiveRock) so I tell Carolyn that I appreciated the offer but would not be able to use the tickets.

That was Wednesday. On Friday Carolyn was literally walking through the building offering the tickets to ANYBODY who would take them. When I left Friday afternoon she still had them!! I work for a fairly large company with several hundred employees in our local office so you would think somebody would take the tickets. The suite is stocked with good food and adult beverages, and the tickets even come with a parking pass for the VIP lot adjacent to the arena. I've been working there for over a year and have never seen tickets for any event go unclaimed.

So just out of curiosity I asked several of my colleagues why they didn't claim the tickets and I received a variety of responses: "I already have plans"..."I've never heard of any of those bands"..."They all suck"..."I'm already going to the Titans football game that day"..."It will just be a bunch of old people"..."Too much hassle to get a babysitter"...etc.

Not sure if I really have a point in posting this other than I just found it a bit sad. I don't care for REO and I'm not crazy about Styx without Dennis but I hate to see this complete lack of interest. So is this an isolated incident or a sign of things to come? Has the REO/Styx pairing run its course? Should REO and Styx be playing arenas at this point or would they be better off sticking with smaller auditoriums and theaters? Thoughts?

I kinda wish I'd been able to see this, but you know, obviously my own thing has to take priority. It just so happened to fall on that night when I'm on live. But I don't think it'll be the last time I ever get the chance, they'll be back I'm sure. They've played here quite a few times in the past ten years. I liked the last show I saw, which was at the Ryman. I've managed to miss Styx twice in a row now in my own back yard, bizarrely, but not out of lack of interest. I've got too much shit to do, LOL. We should all be that lucky.

I hope all is well.

I know I'm outside of the norm, but I was dying to see the Styx/REO tour this year. I'm still upset that I ended up being unable to go, especially as the tour goes on and on now with Night Ranger.

Don't say they're done with arenas - that's just depressing! The rumor for '10 is STYX - FOREIGNER - KANSAS. Oh yes!

It's time for them to give it up. They are an embarrasment now. Obviously, someone in the band is in a world of debt

YOU are the embarrassment!

Wow, how long did it take you to come up with that one? (Again, the mental capacity of Tommy Shaw fans which are why his lyrics are so simplistic..)

At least I know how to spell embarrassment you moron coward simpleton.

Always make sure when comparing superior intellectual song lyrics that the standard isn't being held by anyone who has written lyrics like this. Not saying he hasn't written some great, deep lyrics, but the fact that any of the above lyrics exist should be enough to make any fan with any common sense STFU. (and yes, I'm aware the last quote isn't lyrics - but was written by your superior, insightful, non-laid-getting lyricist, nontheless)

Come come now....we have plenty of material on the other end of that...

That being said, why would anyone pass on a free concert to go see the Tennessee Titans. Of course their 900 year old owner flipping Bills fans off is funny.

See, your problem is trying to apply logic to "Zan" - she doesn't operate that way - especailly if it conflicts with her ideas about DDY and TS.

Whac-A-Mole is an arcade redemption game. A typical Whac-A-Mole machine consists of a large, waist-level cabinet with five holes in its top and a large, soft, black mallet. Each hole contains a single plastic mole and the machinery necessary to move it up and down. Once the game starts, the moles will begin to pop up from their holes at random. The object of the game is to force the individual moles back into their holes by hitting them directly on the head with the mallet, thereby adding to the player's score. The more quickly this is done the higher

Chuck E Cheese Pizza!!!!!!

Great game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So how is going to an REO concert similar to going to a kids pizza joint??

Has Kevin played this game on stage between songs?? I heard he has played some Nintendo DS games in between songs, but I have never heard him playing Whack-a mole- in between songs.

Back in 1980 between the songs" Hold On & Magic Power I saw Rik Emmett VS the other 2 Triumph members play a great game of air hockey.

Thanks for sharing this. You are a VERY informative poster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.P.S. You remember Foreigner's last real tour together? It was back in 1998 Lou was still in the band with Mick & the gang. They warmed up for Journey.

Anyway, they were playing in San Antonio, Texas and I took my family to the show. Right after the song 'Starrider' ( about song #4 that night) Lou Gramm whips out that old loud as hell vibrating football game. The one where you tear off the white felt and use it as a football. The football guys vibrate every direction. Will little did any of us know that Friday night San Antonio concert was really Super Bowl Sunday for Mick & Lou, and the loser was out of the band.

Needless to say Mick won that game and Lou was out. Talk about a high stakes game of vibrating football!! The actual game took over 35 minutes to play. Afterwards, Lou was sooooo distraught he could barely sing a note.

A VERY VERY Sad Sad way for Foreigner to end it's run!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your goofy posts are a bit like Whack-a-Mole, Yogi. They keep popping up, but no one seems to be able to mallet them squarely on the head. :D

ZOMG. My family used to have that electric football game. What a thrill, watching your "team" sort of just vibrate in all directions, never really getting anywhere. (Ok. That sounds a little like some professional teams out there who will go nameless.) Yeah. Good memories. That game was so "exciting" I think it went out in the trash about 10 minutes after we played it for the first, and last, time.

The audience looked like a whack - a - mole came the way they kept standing up then sitting down while Kevin rambled on then they would stand back up when they started to play again.

I hope you're not knocking Electric Football, 'cuz that would hurt me, LOL. I totally fucking LOVED that game. Of course I was such a geek that I could triangulate to compensate for the various angles, thereby winning every single game. While my sister's player's were randomly vibrating all over the "field", mine were like relentless Pro Bowlers in a mindless drive to victory. Ah, good times! LOL.
