That's not to diminish the talents of Tommy Shaw, but I think Dennis and Tommy were far and away the heart of the band ... with a slight advantage to Dennis. He was the voice behind the band's "signature" sound.

It was the "bucket full of dicks" comment, wasn't it? p;-)
I'm in reverse i lurk more in the journey/sp forums then i post. Only because i don't know much about them. Maybe that's a good thingJana wrote:I usually read down here, but don't post. Take those two key ingrediant's away you got nothin.
Saint John wrote:Todd calling Dennis their former keyboardist was accurate and I doubt there was any malice intended by his choice of words. It was a reference to the guy ... not a definition of what the guy meant to Styx. Higgy, this is a simple matter of context, dude. The mention required a reference to a specific person and you're trying to make it out that TS was somehow trying to diminish the contributions of DeYoung to the band Styx. But that's simply not the case. And you really stick a bucket full of dicks in your mouth when you say that Todd Sucherman isn't that good of a drummer. In 2009 Modern Drummer Magazine voted him the number one "Rock Drummer" in the world.

Whatever the case, his statement is ridiculous. Todd occupies the same place in Styx that Eric Singer occupies in Kiss. Todd's statement is tantamount to John Stamos referring to Brian Wilson as the Beach Boy's former bassist.
brywool wrote:Todd is a vital MEMBER of Styx. Todd's as much a member of Styx as when Shaw replaced Curelewski.
As for what he says about Dennis, I think that he put it pretty well.
What's he supposed to say?
Why do people make these wanky "connections"?
If Todd said "That ego-maniac douchebag" then you'd have a point Hig, but "former keyboard player"? Big Deal.
I didn't realize Stamos took over the drums. Thought he just did percussion for that video.
To call Mike Love the Beach Boys is ridiculous. That'd be like if JY had a complete other band and called it Styx, which, by the way, is not what's happening.
Speaking of Todd, his drum video is awesome.

And that's not hard for him to do.Zan wrote:Seriously, dude. Just stop. The guy could be replaced in 2 seconds and nobody would give a damn.
Thats how vital he is.If Todd said "That ego-maniac douchebag" then you'd have a point Hig, but "former keyboard player"? Big Deal.
