Fuck off higgy. Just used that analogy on the terms of building a franchise albeit probably not the best one to use.

Saint John wrote:It's always hard to decipher who was a band's most important member, but from a lay person's prespective and the fact that I have lived in the city of Chicago every day of my life, I would have to say that Dennis DeYoung was the group's most important contributor. That's not to diminish the talents of Tommy Shaw, but I think Dennis and Tommy were far and away the heart of the band ... with a slight advantage to Dennis. He was the voice behind the band's "signature" sound.

All I knew about the band was De Young's voice on Babe, Lady, etc from the radio. But having followed what they're up to since 90s reunited and breaking up and coming to enjoy all their music they've made as a band, I would go see Styx with Gowan b/f De Young solo, if I had to absolutely choose between them. But I would see both and just be glad they're both still making music, all talented musicians. De Young came to Florida and sang acapella in studio at a radio station maybe six years ago or so. His voice was utterly amazing, especially for so early in the morning.

That's like a solid year of education needed on the history of Journey and its issues and splintered fan base. They make Styx's issues seem like kindergarten.

They're just pissed off because they can't admit that Dennis was the ONLY member of Styx that mattered. He WAS Styx. Nobody else contributed anything! 8)
Funny :) Here's an analogy for ya what tommy & JY were to styx are what the big mac and the egg mcmuffin were to mcdonald's. Take those two key ingrediant's away you got nothin.

Saint John wrote:Todd calling Dennis their former keyboardist was accurate and I doubt there was any malice intended by his choice of words. It was a reference to the guy ... not a definition of what the guy meant to Styx. Higgy, this is a simple matter of context, dude. The mention required a reference to a specific person and you're trying to make it out that TS was somehow trying to diminish the contributions of DeYoung to the band Styx. But that's simply not the case. And you really stick a bucket full of dicks in your mouth when you say that Todd Sucherman isn't that good of a drummer. In 2009 Modern Drummer Magazine voted him the number one "Rock Drummer" in the world.

Dennis was not Todds former anything.
Todd last I check was filling in for John.
He has no right saying anything about anything former from the band.

Umm Froy, when Todd was hired he was "filling in" for John, but sorry man, as of July 16th, 1996 he was no longer "filling in".

Whatever the case, his statement is ridiculous. Todd occupies the same place in Styx that Eric Singer occupies in Kiss. Todd's statement is tantamount to John Stamos referring to Brian Wilson as the Beach Boy's former bassist.

He was asked a God Damn question, dude. He made a reference to DeYoung, that I'm fully convinced no matter how he answered, was going to elicit bitching out of a certain group of fans.

John Stamos replaced Dennis Wilson as the Beach Boys drummer in the '80s. Pre-full house.

Todd is a vital MEMBER of Styx. Todd's as much a member of Styx as when Shaw replaced Curelewski.

As for what he says about Dennis, I think that he put it pretty well.
What's he supposed to say?

Why do people make these wanky "connections"?

If Todd said "That ego-maniac douchebag" then you'd have a point Hig, but "former keyboard player"? Big Deal.

I didn't realize Stamos took over the drums. Thought he just did percussion for that video.

To call Mike Love the Beach Boys is ridiculous. That'd be like if JY had a complete other band and called it Styx, which, by the way, is not what's happening.

Speaking of Todd, his drum video is awesome.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Suchermann having the same impact as when Tommy joined? You have got to be fucking kidding me. Put down the Kool-Aid, it makes you look like a moron.

Sucherman is a sub filling in with guys 20 years older than him because he isn't a good enough drummer to get a gig with anyone his age (or any band that has had a hit in the past 20 years...)

He is not part of OUR
Its not OUR former keyboard player.
Its the founder of the band who is no longer in the band.

Dennis was not the former keyboard player BRY he was the front man and leader of the band
Calling him a keyboard player is a slap in the face.
