These Are The Times: Best JY Styx song

I think it's the best JY Styx song recorded. Discuss.

"These Are The Times" is one of the best, but I don't know if it beats "Young Man". It's too bad "YM" was released on Wooden Nickel, and did not benefit from the improved production qualities of A&M.

"Double Life" is J.Y's pop moment, and it's a good one.

Agree about Young Man. Great song. One of my fave of JY's. Also, Double Life and Half Penny.

Half Penny by far for me. I just don't get what others like in Double Life...I'll have to give it another listen. Young Man is a good song and would have liked to see them cover it again with a decent recording.

Homewrecker sucks. Double Life also sucks. Sounds like the cowardly lion.
You Need Love- great. Midnight Ride, great. Also like Great White Hope.

didn't Dennis nix TATT? I also don't mind Capt. America or Heavy Water.

Half Penny Two Penny's probably his best.

NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

These Are The Times was written for RTP. Dennis rejected it. Honesty I can't blame him, it isn't that great of a song even tho it does have the true classic Styx sound. Personally for me, I'm sticking with Miss America. As overplayed as it is, it is still my favorite JY tune. Miss America is what got me hooked on Styx waaaaayyy back when.

TATT really doesn't fit the vibe of Brave New World, but the song is still great.

I'll have to go with Half-Penny, but TATT is very good. I think it would be about third on my list.

"Miss America" is good, but I think it's the fact that he has other songs that are better; yet, for some reason, "Miss America" is all he ever does in concert. "Heavy Water", while I don't know if it's better, would be a welcome change at some of the shows. Forgot about that one as well.

"Double Life" is his best song for me. No question. Side two of Kilroy is just great (well, HMP is the weak link on the B side and even it's not too bad).

After that? In no particular order:
"Young Man"
"Half Penny, Two Penny"
"Great White Hope"
"Midnight Ride"
"Lords of the Ring"

I cant beleive that "Great White Hope" isnt getting more love.....one of their best tunes regardless of who is singing.

I also think "miss america" is incredible. we are all so used to it now but if you heard it for the first time it would be nearly everyone's favorite.

"double life" is great and so is "lord of th erings" even if he didnt write it. I also massively love "put me on".

if you go back to the wooden nickel days JY has many shining moments and for me they include "witch wolf", "man of miracles" and "winner take all".

JY has written a lot of great rockers

Midnight Ride puts the edge in Equinox
Put Me On is killer except for the sappy middle part by Denny
Miss America would be appreciated a lot more if it weren't over played in concert.
Great White Hope, kinda goofy but a good rocker
Half Penny Two Penny, Todd really takes that song to another level in concert.
Heavy Water and Captain are also great rockers.
But I agree, These are the Times is probably his best.

JY's rockers add that needed one two punch to the STYX catalog. Without them, STYX would be a little too close to Barry Manilow territory for me.
