Froy, hon, I love your avatar/profile pic (despite the fact that it looks like they put Dennis down in some sort of hole in the floor), but it does need a bit of resizing. Maybe??

As to your question. I think the popularity between the two is a tossup. Not sure of record sales, but I would guess Elton has sold more overall.

My personal preference is for Neil, the early stuff. I also like Elton's earlier stuff, too. It seems like so many artists degenerate into schlock into later years. Ditto Billy Joel.

Not sure there is actually a way to know for sure, but if we're going by overall records sales from songwriting credits, it would be Neil, hands down.

I'm pretty sure Elton has sold more records by just a little bit. Neil has written some absolute classic stuff and IMO Neil has such an awesome voice. Neil's "Serenade" album is right up there in my top 10 albums of all time.

Well, then there is the "hot" factor to consider. 8) Neil, circa 1970-1980, hooboy! Sooooo hot! Heh. I imagine with women, that fed into the popularity factor in addition to the music.

I way prefer Neil's voice, even in these later years where it has degenerated a lot, to Elton's any day.

I meant to add, too, that the last two Rick Rubin produced albums of Neil's -- 12 Songs and Home Before Dark -- were very nice albums indeed. No schlock there. A Cherry, Cherry Christmas, on the other hand....

Im gonna give the nod to Neil Diamond as well it's a very close call here but as Zan said Neil wins in the song writing depo
he was a huge factor in the movie Shrek and Pulp Fiction Elton was in The Lion King
Neils concerts are stunning and so are Eltons
But Neil is more complex he can do ballads love songs Rock Tunes Elton is just a piano man.

Neil Wins here

Up next Pink Floyd vs Led Zeppellin

That lineup's been dead for 13 years. For it to comeback now would be pointless (as much as i want it to happen).

Floyd. No contest.

That surprises me a little. On one hand, you have Elton, masterful pianist with a classic-style vibrato-power-ballad-loving voice - yet, you prefer the sexier guy who rocks out a bit more and whose voice is less rich, even arguably weak, depending on who is listening.

P.S. I will take Neil any day over Elton as well. Elton annoys the crap out of me, although I do enjoy his older material quite a bit.

Ok, huh? Oh yeah. Elton has that powerhouse voice. Not tinny, upper register at all. I will give the the pianist skills to Elton, though.

His new voice is FAR from "tinny." It's throaty and deep and has tons of vibrato. I thought you dug that sorta stuff.LOL

Stop looking for hints to something that will not EVER happen. Tommy and JY get along with Gowan a lot better. It's be like dumping your 20 year old supermodel wife to get back with your 55 year old menopausal ex-wife.

And there music is a lot worse, The shows are the same and boring. 10 years of the same Schtyk with no vision of the future in site.
Is this it 10 more years of this budget act? I think someone should count just how many times in the last 10 years did Shaw say the words Blue Colllar Man.
It has to be in the millions, Its funny a band that has played over 1200 shows in 10 years is worse off than before they started, Thats like running backwards on a treadmill.

It's be like dumping your 20 year old supermodel wife

Who is worthless
