That's a bit harsh don't you think. By the way you spelled pity wrong.

Also, hasn't this always been the case with a new album? It's weird how that's changed, not to mention sad.

Everett, what is so bad about that song? I was about 9 years old when that came out, so obviosly I wasn't really into music because of my young age. But when I heard the song on the radio (which was played a lot) I didn't see anything wrong with it. It's catchy. Very successful. #3 means the public liked it. At that point in time, songs like Babe and Mr. Roboto are what I thought of when I thought of Styx. It gave them their identiy in my eyes. Too Much Time on My Hands was another that was in the forefront and another song I thought of. All good songs in my opinion even if music wasn't my life like it is now. My point is that even though Roboto seems odd now and the whole concept seems like a dumb idea... it wasn't then. It was pretty cool and holds a special place with me. How can you hate it so much that you would shake your head or boo when DDY played it? You are a Styx fan right? Dennis made Styx successful. Yes, Tommy and JY did their part and they maybe wouldn't have been as successful without them, but without Dennis... they would have been nothing. Give him his credit. They are my favorite band and Tommy may be my favorite member, but Pieces of Eight is my favorite song. I support both sides, but it'll never be the same unless they give it another try. How could anyone prefer Gowan over Dennis??? It's ridiculous. And I am not bashing Larry. He's an amazing player, eh... an okay singer, but he does his part well. He is not Dennis and August Zadra is not Tommy. Please show some respect.

I think it's because Babe and Mr. Roboto are considered some type of "death kneel" for the band. That those songs changed Styx from a hard rockin' band to a pop Top 40 band. In my opinion, Styx was never just a hard rocking band. They were a band with a diversity of musical styles. In fact, Dennis points out it was the musical influences on each other that made Styx what it was. I get a chuckle when TS or JY talk about how those songs were bad for the band. Without Babe the band wouldn't have a number one single.

I agree, even though some ballads Dennis has written are pretty typical as far as the genre goes, I think Babe is different. Pretty much just a Fender Rhodes and Dennis. I know there are other elements, but you get my point. I think the song is incredible. And like I said it so reminds me of my childhood. I have read that TS and JY told Dennis to put it on the album. So how can they perceive as a death knell for the band? I get the whole not wanting to release First Time... TS didn't want ballads to become the identity of Styx. But threatening to quit is kind of a immature move. Anyways, I like Babe and Mr. Roboto. And Don't Let it End and Best of Times. Do I prefer songs like Pieces of Eight, Castle Walls, I'm OK and Queen of Spades? A little yes, but diversity is a good thing.
