With all the people in the US having so many problems financially, 20% plus unemployment......people fighting a war....

This comes off as JP flaunting his wealth....the pics with the Lamborghini ect.....how much money he makes...

He never used to be like this....guess what I heard is true...he is completely 100 percent NOTHING like the cool guy I knew...he had humility and no ego....

I am very disappointed...

People may turn this as an article about the copywrites....its not....all the guys I know are doing this now, it's OLD news....
this is a PR move by him to get in the limelight to promote his new stuff...

Joe, While i can certainly see where you are coming from on this, I don't know if it's completely cut and dried like that.
As you well know in most of these cases the artist is posed in a ton of different settings and then the columnist makes the choice of what to run, and also what the article says is only what the writer wants you to know or read. Who knows how much stuff was left on the "cutting room" floor.
Nowhere in it does JP pimp his new jazz album nor does he come off like he's trying to, let's face it,most people who read this don't even know he has a Jazz album out let alone a new one.

My personal take on it is that while JP may be guilty of some flaunting of his wealth, in truth the guy has earned it. And I can't blame him for trying to remind people that he also had something to do with those survivor songs, especially since sullivan has recently done his level best to tell people that in order to get the "TRUTH" one needs to come to him and no one else.

Instead of worrying about this I'm more concerned with the lack of rock in his recent past.....jazz albums......world stage shows that have become a who's who of the obscure. What happened to the days of it being a rip roaring rock and roll show???? Where did those days go???

I mean Jim is a great rock songwriter, but it seems like most of his jazz is retreads of his rock stuff to some degree. Just My opinion.

I gotta agree with Joe a bit on this one... It's hard to feel financially sorry for a guy sitting in front of his Lambo. It was a good article, though, and great to see that the artists can get their music back.

I still can't believe it takes 35 years! To me, that's still WAY too long. Artists get screwed when it comes to their own work and there is something intrinsically wrong with that. I'd like to see that number come down to 15 to 20 years so that artists can actually enjoy some of the fruits of their labors while they are still relatively young...

I'm also glad that Jim is fighting for, and informing, his fellow artists. Part of me wonders if the writer purposely wanted the picture in front of the car or if Jim offered up this particular picture. I would have preferred to see him in front of a wall of gold records or something like that...

Good article-poor presentation. Agree with JV. Don't complain about $ when unemployment is more than 9 percent and in the african-american community much worse! We also have soldiers on two war fronts. By the way, great news about POL!!!!

I wish Frankie would spend some time blogging about the new music instead of his former partner's article on music royalties. So few posts, so little new news...

I really think they used that pic because of the license plate on the car and to display the "rock star" life...

I don't know if this is what you want to know or not? But this might help answer your question?

This is my understanding....

When your a professional songwriter, you join an organization that helps you collect the songwriting royalties that you have coming to you. The two most well-known of those organizations are ASCAP and BMI. If I recall correctly, I believe that Peterik joined ASCAP, and Sullivan joined BMI? Those two organizations keep track of every time that a member of theirs' song is played in public, like on the radio, or at a stadium, or on TV/movies. The organization makes sure that their member is payed a royalty for each time that the song is played in public like that.

I've heard that it's good for a songwriting team like Peterik and Sullivan to belong to different royalty collection organizations, like Peterik and Sullivan do with Peterik being a member of ASCAP, and Sullivan being a member of BMI. That way, if one of the organizations is not aware of the song having been played at say a stadium, that the other organization may be aware of it, and they still make sure that their client is payed for that particular airing of the song.

Isn't amazing...who couldn't predict this? As soon as Jim does something here comes sullivan babbling negativity about it. Amazing thoughts from Captain Positive...remember people the survivor board isn't going to be like that "OTHER" board....nothing but positive things on it....yeah right

Jim could cure cancer....fix the economy....and bring about world peace and sullivan would have some negative comment about it.
Anyone notice who has the "blog" and the apparent need to bring attention to themselves?????
Can anyone give me the web address to the Jim Peterik blog?????? Would love to read his thoughts on things.

Way to keep it POSITIVE there frankie.....my turn to keep it positive.....I'm positive that there will not be any new survivor music, most likely ever again, unless Peterik writes it.

I don't see a problem - so the guy likes cars and has money to buy them. Maybe not the most PR-friendly move in the world in today's economy, but hey... it's his money.

Now me, personally, I'd always feel a little sensitive about flaunting a really expensive car whether it just be in the public streets or in a newspaper article. But I'm also not much of a car guy. So to me, there's little to accomplish other than flaunting what you got. But, people who love cars are different in that respect. If I had a really nice, expensive vintage guitar collection, I wouldn't feel any shame at all about flaunting it for friends/media etc... because I love guitars and would be proud of such a collection!

The cultural penis envy logic in today's world is so backwards sometimes. JP is just trying to keep the rights to what he created. The fact that unemployment is high and the economy is bad shouldn't prevent him for fighting what he believes he has a right to. I'd feel sick to my stomach watching someone else get all the fruits of something I created too, whether I had $13,000 or $13,000,000 in the bank.

I guess envy is as old as time and we've all felt at least twinges of it towards others with more than us, regardless of political affiliation or upbringing. Whenever I feel myself getting jealous of someone else's money/things I try and check myself. It's not cool to obnoxiously flaunt your money, but it's not cool to be jealous either.
