As for me? Oh and God should be capitalized. My point was that if you're gonna "battle" with Froy, you better bring a lunch. He is relentless and it's pointless to call him out. If you don't "get" the constant bad mouthing as you so put it... then don't read it. We're all entitled to our opinion whether people agree or not. And the message board is about Styx... thank you so much for reminding us. Some of us prefer DDY over Gowan. Some of us can't enjoy a DDY penned song performed by someone who sings in the wrong key. It wouldn't bother me if he sang his own stuff or even his songs off of Big Bang Theory. He's also fine as a background vocalist, but that's it. DDY is simply irreplaceable.

First of all, as others have said, he is not singing "off key". You just don't like his voice. Whatever.

Second....DDY HAS been replaced. He may be irreplaceable to YOU, in YOUR opinion....but the fact is he HAS been replaced, whether you like it or not.

People agreeing or disagreeing about the above is not the problem. The problem is some people just can't get over the fact that DDY will never be a part of Styx again and have to bitch and moan about it relentlessly. THAT is what is going on.

None of you whiners wants to talk about the music of Styx, or even Dennis. You whiners start a thread about "Paradise" and it lasts about 5 posts. You start a "Lets bitch about Styx ticket sales" and it goes on forever because you can't shut the fuck up about the Styx bitching.

Well, thanks for responding totobob... I didn't realize it was you. I said wrong key, not off key. He is singing in a key, just not the right one for the song and Styx apparently doesn't now how to change the key they play in to complement his voice. Instead they drop songs from the setlist... my advice, drop the rest. The songs will never work. It would make more sense if Tommy sang the DDY songs in the setlist. He already sings most of them anyways.
[

What are you talking about? Are you saying Gowan steps down the songs but the rest of the band doesn't? That's just not true.

Oh, and we'll bitch and whine to our hearts content.

Of course you will. That's all you guys know how to do.

It's funny though that it pisses you off and kinda sad. We talk about the music of Styx plenty.

Not 'pissed off' at all. And, it's an absolute lie to say you post about the music of Styx plenty. This forum hardly talks about the music of Styx AT ALL.

If we do start a thread dealing with DDY or his tie in Styx then we have people like yourself come in and do some of your own bitching and whining. It goes both ways and it has. Hey Pot, I'm Kettle... how ya doin'?

Again, that's a lie. Who fucked up the Paradise thread? It is NOT a two way street. I think a few people here just salivate waiting for any thread about Styx so they can act like assholes and post the same old bullshit to derail the thread. You are full of shit if you say you can't see that.

totobob wrote:Baron, your sarcasm is marvellous. Your use of dramatic comments ridiculous. "In over your head" "do battle with" for goodness sake, its a notice board. Your comment that DDY is irreplacable is factually incorrect. He IS replaceable and thousands upon thousands of fans that have seen the current line up would share that opinion. Someone else posted that the DDY motto is "if you dont have something good to say then you shouldnt say anything at all". Well that statement certainly has not been endorsed on this board.

One final comment I would make is that I have been a fan, as I said since 1978 but many of my friends didnt like the band , because of DDY. They felt he was too refined and that he should be on broadway not fronting a rock band. For years I defended him as I thought the guy was superb, but the fact is some of these friends now love the band because he is not in it. Now I would be happy with either line up of the band, because to me its still Styx. The point I would make though is, are they wrong and misguided, or are they just giving their opinion which they are perfectly entitled to.

I just love how people take the term "irreplaceable" so literally. Sure anyone could be physically replaced in band. When speaking about Dennis being irreplaceable it's in the context of the band losing the dynamics it once had not that he physically can't be booted. For as many that like the current line up their are just as many that prefer the prior line up and I am not just speaking about just those here.

THIS is a two way street. He HAS been replaced to me, and to many others. I have no desire to see him in the band again, and hope he stays away as they are better off without him. Get over it.

The problem I have with what Styx has now become is that in truth the band was DDY's baby. He was the main and core reason why the band maintained for so long and finally acheived HUGE success. Everyone this side of Chuck ( who now has limited involvement) was late to the party. Trying to erase DDY's involvemnet in Styx(T shirts being altered etc...) is 100% wrong.

With that said Tommy, JY, Chuck, Todd etc have EVERY right to carry on.

With his current band, he replaced everybody. So, his band his full replacement chipmunks - by your own definition.

Nobody did...that's the point. There is a concentrated effort by a few assholes on this forum to fuck up every thread about Styx. It happens so often that nobody here even cares to start a serious thread about Styx. So, no, the sides do not act the same.

Oh, sure, Tommy and JY held a gun to Dennis' head and forced him to stop playing a solo show with songs from Hunchback and 100yrs from now and perform a Styx show instead. Even if I concede that for him to continue touring he had to perform a Styx set (because people just don't care to hear a solo DDY set), he STILL did not need to hire clones of his old bandmates...not even Styx did that.

There is no real difference between what Styx and Dennis are doing. To insult one is really insulting both.

No, it is way off base to say that Dennis was 'forced' to do anything. How was he forced to stop performing solo shows? NOBODY forced him to make that decision - he did that on his own.

I don't feel like reading this long arguing topic about DDY and Styx, so here's my opinion on the band and lack of selling tickets:

1. They tour too much. It's fun seeing a band play their hits once every year or two, but who is really going to see Styx play 2-3 times a year unless you're a diehard fan and even if you are a die hard fan, what are they really supporting...

2. Where is the new music? Hey it's nice you guys are spending time in the studio, but instead of recording cover songs and covers of your old matierial how about putting out a new album with new original songs?

3. Go away for at least a year. They've toured the hell out of America with the band. Take some time off and come back refreshed.

1. BabyBlue I'm sure would see them everyday if that was possible. 8) They are supporting JY and Tommy's bank accounts.

2, There is none. Sure they have flapped their gums about all this new music they were writing together but somehow it never materializes.

3. That will never happen. Their gonna milk the cow till it falls over dead. This band is so stale there's no way to refresh it.

Well now thank you, so much for thinking about me. :D Their are fans that go all over the country goes to see them. They fly in from where ever there from.I don't have that kind of money...unless you want to give me the money to go?????

Call up the band, I'm sure they would be willing to provide you with an expense account to be able to make each and every show. 8)
