Steve Lukather's Solo Albums

Postby TotoStu » Sat Jan 05, 2013 10:51 pm

Well, I've got the entire Toto collection now, and all of Bobby Kimball's stuff. In my mission to build up a complete collection, I was thinking of making 2013 about getting all of Lukather's solo stuff. I've never heard any of it, and with all the hits it brings up on YouTube I wouldn't know where to start!

So this is where you guys can help me...

Where shall I start? What tunes do you think I'll dig? Would I be right in thinking that the Toto albums "Kingdom Of Desire" and "Tambu" would give me some indication of what's in store for me?

Thanks in advance guys! :)

Mate,

Start with Lukather, his debut solo record.

Great production, with some stellar star power in there i.e Eddie Van Halen, Richard Marx, Steve Stevens, Jan Hammer, Diane Warren, David Paich, Jeff Porcaro, Carlos Vega, etc

Then you've got Candyman, Luke, Ever Changing Times, All's Well That End Wells and his latest, Transition.

IMO....Transition is his best work since Lukather. His vocals, guitar playing, production and song writing is just top notch.

But try Lukather first....

Cheers

Don't forget his most excellent Christmas solo disc..."Santamental"!

VERY cool collection of Xmas tunes!

Agreed. I'd start with Candyman & then Ever Changing Times.

IMO, Lukather is enjoyable for me as a superfan but I think the songwriting is a notch down from some of his other records.

1997's Luke is often overlooked, but also a pretty dark post-divorce record. Lots of great tracks on it though.
