What Could Have Been

Does anyone feel that that A&M or the band missed out on some songs that could have been big hits? What about "Doube Life" from "Kilroy"?.. I also think that "Lights" would have done something, I'm not sure that it would have been huge, but it would have probably been top 40 material. Actually, what about "Rockin' The Paradise"? Interesting that it wasn't issued in the US.

Like it or not, I know "First Time" was trying to be pushed, but the record company didn't promote it like they should have.

Also when "Lady" came out the first time, Wooden Nickel sat on it and didn't promote it like they were suppose to. The members didn't find this out until months/year later. I think this was the same with "Best Thing".

There were a few more songs that the members of Styx, yes all of them wanted to be released, but the record company at that time, said no and wouldn't send them out - the songs to the radio stations.

I'll get that list sometime soon.

Yes, it was the last top 40 hit the classic lineup had.. It only charted at #40 for one week. I always thought it seemed like a "kilroy" outtake, which it most likely was. Like it or not, I still think it was better than "High Time"..

Other songs that woulda coulda shoulda...Love is the Ritual (A&M no help), Love at first sight (see previous), It takes love to make love, Pieces of Eight, Nothing ever goes as planned....

Actually, no, "Lights" wasn't tried as a single at all. The singles from "Cornerstone" were; "Babe", "Why Me", and "Borrowed Time". Obviously, "Babe" was the only big hit, while "Why Me" mangaged to make the top 40, how often have we ever heard that one on the radio?

Another could have been that I didn't mention before was "I Will Be Your Witness". No, even if it would have been issued as a single in 1999, it probably wouldn't have done anything, but it is a hit worthy song.

Born For Adventure would of hit big. Paradise was one of the best ballads the band ever did. Roseland, Little Suzie and Snowblind also should of charted.

I wont include my list from Cyclorama as to not start a fight, but many of those songs should of been hits!!!!!!

As for Music Time and High Time.........BRUTAL BRUTAL songs!!!!!!!!!!!

Yogi, you have every right to include songs on your list from Cyclorama. I would list them.

There's one song on there that sounds like "Winter's Call" from Badlands, I don't know the song title. (My opinion)

I thought Cycolarama was a fine album. I will admit to being a little taken back by Tommy's contributions, if he always wanted to rock so hard, why soft on this album? I agree as far as the fact that there should have been some hits, "These Are The Times" should have been all over radio, especially with what was(is) going on in Iraq at the time of the release. I think they should have pushed "These Are The Times" first, rather than "Waiting For Our Time". "These Are The Times" could have been big on the modern rock(or is it mainstream?) chart, along with the adult top 40(not adult contemporary); then, I think they should have pushed "One With Everything", that probably could have done something on the adult top 40 as well. As I said, it was a fine album, but I thought it was a little bland, I really didn't care much for Gowan's contributions, and I did miss Dennis, but as I've stated before, I think they are better off in separate camps, but I won't get into all of that again.

I thought he already had walked by then. Music Time was the lone studio track on Caught in the Act. As I recall he only shows up on the video in one solo shot because he had left the group.

I remember when radio was good and this is before MTV and Corporate Radio America. I remember hearing Lights, Rockin' The Paradise, Pieces Of Eight, Love In The Midnight, I'm Okay, Great White Hope on the radio. That was when dj's expanded the music selection in which they did for other groups like Foreigner, Cheap Trick, Journey just to name a few. Now if they want to expand they can get fired because Corporate Radio America runs the radio stations. We all know that MTV is just a crap station that plays crappy videos. That is just my opinion.
