Brad Pitt & "Renegade"

Postby SuiteMadameBlue » Sat Feb 05, 2005 7:48 am

It looks like there will be a lot of Styx music playing on tv and movies for 2005.

"Mr. Roboto" was being played for the promo's for the show "Joey" a few weeks ago. There will be a few songs in the movie "The Perfect Man" coming out in August.

Now we have this. I don't know how reliable this website source is, so if it's not true, please don't blame the messenger

The Styx 1979 classic 'Renegade' will be guzzled down at the Super Bowl with thanks to Brad Pitt in a beer commerical.

Pitt will star in a television commercial for Heineken and has personally insisted that 'Renegade' be used as the music in the advertisment.

A source tells Undercover News "they wanted to use the Rolling Stones but Brad wanted 'Renegade'. Brad got his way".

At this stage Undercover is not sure if Brad is a huge fan of Styx or if this is a sneaky ploy to get some more publicity for his movie Troy. In the movie, Pitt played Achilles, who legend has it, was made invincible after his mother dipped him in the river Styx.

Styx will be performing before the start of the Super Bowl in Tampa, Florida.

Fans can also look forward to a covers album coming soon. The album titled 'Styx Salute' will feature their takes on Jethro Tull's 'Locomotive Breath', Jimi Hendrix's 'Manic Depression' and BB King's 'The Thrill Is Gone'.

The album will also feature their delta blues version of 'Blue Collar Man', recorded at the legendary Chess studios in Chicago last year with blues man Johnnie Johnson.

The album was inspired by their recent success with their cover of The Beatles 'I Am The Walrus'.

The song was only available as a download.

I always enjoy the Super Bowl commercials very much. I will sure be on the lookout for this one. Kudos to Tommy's song if this report is accurate. And Ka-CHING for the Greatest Hits CD.

I hope there is someone there to hear Styx play since the Super Bowl is in Jacksonville.

The superbowl this year is in Jacksonville, not Tampa. The superbowl in Tampa was 2001.

And seeing the date of the article really represents today's date, I think this is a spoof.

I couldn't find any other articles mentioning the song "Renegade" being used, but I found pretty many articles featuring Brad Pitt and the commercial:

http://www.adweek.com/aw/creative/artic ... 1000789667

http://www.adrants.com/2005/01/brad-pit ... 9568819382

I would think if "Renegade" was going to be used in a commercial, especially during Superbowl, Tommy would've added to the website, right? or maybe it's a surprise? Don't know.

If you didn't see the commercial with Brad Pitt featuring the song "Renegade", you can see it here:

Go to 3rd Quarter. You can also vote for your favorite commercial too :)

The information has been added to Tommy's messages too.

Enjoy :)

Just to clarify, though this is water waaay under the bridge now.

The Heineken ad was not an "official" Super Bowl ad. It was not aired everywhere, as that time was set aside for local ads or other companies who were not official sponsors to show their ads if they forked over the money. So some of you who did not see it really didn't "see" it since it was likely not shown in your area.

I have read, and seen, several reviews of the ads shown and, though the Pitt ad was mentioned, no one said a word about the song. I am afraid they were too caught up in the whole "Brad makes a commercial" hoopla.

Trust me. With the money Heineken invested in this ad, it will get many airings on television from now on.

Bugsy is correct. For instance I saw the add air right before half time here in Chicago, but people in the Milwaukee did not see it.

While I am genuinely pleased that Brad Pitt chose the song for the commercial, to me the commercial wasn't one of the best ones of the night.

As to whether or not it airs, I'm not so sure it will be run all that many more times.

Peace,

Sadie

Mr. Jennifer Noe - you have been warned before about the size of your avatars.
Last chance to use one of acceptable size - ie, the same as everyone else.
