no need heres MY review

just got back from my overnight stay in Brum, what can I say!!!!!!!!!!
the setlist will be posted elsewhere, but basicly the same as everywhere else on the tour
Now where the hell do I start, how about the band

RICKY PHILLIPS
What an outstanding musician this man is , I'm so glad he has been added to the STYX family, his playing, harmonies, image just seems like he's been in the band forever, and such a nice nice guy

TODD SUCHERMAN[b]
If there are any ROCK drummers out there better than this guy well!!!!!!!!!!!!, this guys an animal, sheer energy all night, and so so tight, sir I salute you

LAWRENCE GOWAN
I have always had a great regard for Larry as a musician , he had one of the hardest acts to follow, but all that changed last night!!!!!!!!!!he in now moved up to LEGEND status. As a showman he has no peers, his goofing with the audience and the rest of the band brought about a magic to this concert very few performers can, I cannot explain the pride and love for this guy. THANK YOU MR GOWAN for joining our band

JY
The godfather of STYX , PURE PURE ROCK GOD. How this guy finds the energy night after night is beyond me. He loves this band, he loves us, and you know what WE LOVE YOU JY

TOMMY "FREAKIN" SHAW
My hero for the last 27yrs, the ultimate AOR/MELODIC ROCK icon, never stopped smiling ALL NIGHT!! his voice is still incredable, his solos superb, what a GUY
Tommy let me do what Adam Sandler in Big Daddy only dreamed about, yep he let me play his guitar on CSA, he could see how much that meant to me, his smile said it all, talk about death bed memories

CUCKIE
What a bonus to see CHUCK is this guy really ill???????????????? the cowd loved him, he was so nice when we met him later, take care my friend

SUMMARY

I came away with Todds drumstick , two of Tommys picks, 1 of JYs, 1of Rickys, a polaroid of Larry (took by Larry) and a smile as wide of the atlantic
we met Larry, Todd, JY, Ricky, Chuck, before they got on the coach for pics and autographs (Tommy was late and couldn't make it) PURE DREAMLAND.

OH the performance, do I need to say C-L-A-S-S pure CLASS
Tonight I do it all again in Manchester
cant wait

So Mike, did you like the show ?

Oh, and we can compare Styx to the Beatles after Styx makes up the 100 million or so gap in sales between the 2 bands. They might not be your cup of tea, but dissing them continually does nothing to add to your credibility !

I'm glad you enjoyed the show.....I 'm going to try to see them as soon as they come back to our side of the Atlantic.

No wonder more and more people aren't posting on this board anymore.

Once again another topic or a review is getting out of hand. Sheesh guys.

Even though I don't care for the current line-up, I'm still glad to see styxmike post his review. He waited for a long time to see this show and I'm very happy for him that he had a great time. I was so excited to read that he met members of the band!!! I can tell by your post how excited you were - I hope you were able to take pictures :)

I hope you guys have a great day. You never know which people are reading this board from "both sides"

Some people could replace all your Styx/Gowan references with Dennis ones and say the exact same thing, Froy. Especially if they hadn't ever bothered to see his show. Be careful with blanket ignorant statements. Wait, who am I talking to???

All of this may be over soon, Froy. Life is too short. Get one before it's too late.

FROY: This band is looking for followers just like you
ADAM: Is there something WRONG about an act winning over new audiences???? If so, arrest Dennis DeYoung (and EVERY OTHER PERFORMER THROUGHOUT THE HISTORY OF CIVILIZATION)

FROY: All they have to do is stand on stage and you will praise them like the second comming,
ADAM: Ummm, Froy, this guy wasn't practicing hero worship. He was enjoying a show, that's all. If there's ANYONE who is guilty of praising someone over zealously, I think most here would agree its YOU.

FROY: Boring setlist the same as before but that does not matter
ADAM: The band hasn't perform in Britain in - what is it THIRTY YEARS? What's 'boring" about them performing a set that hasn't been performed in that country? And for the record, your boy Dennis performs predominantly songs from another CENTURY himself.

FROY: Gowan does not do a single original thing and he'a a legend in your mind
ADAM: He's written a number of excellent original songs (how many have YOU written, Froy?) and for the record, I've never seen anyone else use a spinning keyboard

FROY: Lap it up it may be over soon
ADAM: Going on SIX YEARS of you saying that.

FROY: There is no where else this band can burn out
ADAM: We'll have to see about that (care to place a BET?)

FROY: BTW what happened to that Big Bang Gone in less than a week.
ADAM: It's perhaps the most succesful album they've had in over a
decade. The same kinda silliness could be said about DeYoung, "By the way, what happened to DeYoung's hit songwriting? His records are over in less than a week."

Zan's right, Life is too short. I think we should all just enjoy all the concerts that we can see while they're out there. Actually any band that we enjoy to see. The guys aren't getting any younger.

Only ignorant people could
How could you possibly say Dennis has not done an original thing
What is your problem ?
Without Dennis and his original ideas there would be no STYX
Just look at Styx Mike and his pump
If Shaw made sandwiches on stage he would say it was the best he has ever seen.

This band is looking for followers just like you

ANY band, or artist, looks for "followers", or "enablers", or whatever you choose to call them. The only thing wrong with that is YOU don't like the fact that people DO follow them and DO enable the band to keep going.

All they have to do is stand on stage and you will praise them like the second comming,

Well, I think they do at least have to sing and stuff.

Boring setlist the same as before but that does not matter

It doesn't matter if the person has not seen the set list before...Unless they have visited the US recently, nobody in the UK has. And, IMO, the setlist becomes irrelevent if the band still entertains.

Lap it up it may be over soon

People are...and you don't like it.

There is no where else this band can burn out

There is always Russia, China, and the Eastern countries...Oh, and Australia, New Zealand, South America, Greenland, Finland...

BTW what happened to that Big Bang
Gone in less than a week.

Everytime you mention it, it is not 'gone'. Everytime the band performs a song from it, it is not 'gone'.

Besides, at least it showed up...unlike a certain movie and movie soundtrack that Dennis is now on.

For the rest, what would the guys in or out of the band make of the incessant drivel that gets posted here. Oh wait, Froy and Monker have that down to an art form, don't they?

Not true...it doesnt take much brain power to do nothing but throw insults about. Yours and IML's posts are proof of that.

How could you possibly say Dennis has not done an original thing

Dennis has not done an original thing. That was easy.

Without Dennis and his original ideas there would be no STYX

Without the rest of the band, there would be no Styx. And, that 'original idea' is over thirty years old.

If Shaw made sandwiches on stage he would say it was the best he has ever seen.

And, if Dennis burps onstage, you would say how wonderful his voice is.

Theye do not need to see his show to know about his original ideas.

What original idea? Performing with a symphony? That has been done by bands for decades. Writing screenplays and music for them? That has been done for centuries.

It's not out of hand, it's just starting to get fun!

You never know which people are reading this board from "both sides"

If Dennis's 'people' are reading this forum, then I would like to say that people like Froy make this forum fun. Are you not so proud to have fans like him?

If Tommy/JY's 'people' are reading this forum, then I would like to say, why the hell are you not in the UK where all the fun is?

One of the greatest things about going to a concert for an artist you admire and/or love, is the anticipation beforehand. The excitement building and then, when you see him/her/them, having what you anticipated meet or exceed all you hoped it would be.

styxmile, you got that in spades and I am happy for you. Not only did you love the concert, but you got to meet all of the band members and interact some. How cool is that? High five from Texas.

ZAN: Some people could replace all your Styx/Gowan references with Dennis ones and say the exact same thing,
FROY: Only ignorant people could
ADAM: Not true at all. There are as many people who are ANNOYED by DeYoung as there are those who admire him. The rock critics have pretty much always given him and/or Styx a thumbs down. It’s all only opinions. And this is a Styx board, where the general consensus is Styx is good. Except for you. So be it.

FROY: How could you possibly say Dennis has not done an original thing
ADAM: Sure, I could play devil’s advocate for you. Babe? An attempt at a Billy Joel “Just The way You Are: rewrite. Come Sail Away? A Who imitation.

FROY: What is your problem ?
ADAM: No problem here. You’re the one busting a blood vessel over the FACT that someone went to Styx concert and LIKED IT. So you come onto a Styx bulletin board and gripe against someone having an opinion other than yours. YOU have the problem here, Mister Happiness.

FROY: If Shaw made sandwiches on stage he would say it was the best he has ever seen.
ADAM: Again, I point out that his positive review was nothing compared to the over-zealous hero-worshipping attitude you show toward DeYoung.

Froy, you’d be happier if you could grasp the concept that there are people with different tastes, sensibilities and opinions than you.

I think they, Styx or Dennis, would think, "Why am I reading this instead of writing, recording, or performing music? I think I should take a bath and give them something else to drink."

Oh wait, Froy and Monker have that down to an art form, don't they?

Thanks Bugsy , your bang on there
I'm sure my review of Dennis would be just as enthusiastic if I could get to see him
I'm still high from last night (natural high that is) last night was what rock music is all about for me, the passion and enthusiasm was there on both sides.Styx loved us as much as we loved them, keeping "our" music alive, felt like a teenager again(NOT in a M. Jackson way LOL)
Now I have to do it all again in a few hours phew!! I haven't eaten yet!!! HEY TOMMY MAKE MINE A CHICKEN SALAD HOLD THE MAYO
It is STYX it says so on Larrys keyboards

Guys lets just chill. Thank god for Dennis De Young and thank god for Lawrence Gowan and while Im at it thank god for everyone thats had a part to play in the Styx story over the years. Is it not wonderful, that regardless of your views, Styx are still touring and winning over new fans and delighting fans that have never had the pleasure of seeing them before, which include myself. Lets lose the blinkered approach and celebrate the music of one of the greatest rock bands that has ever existed.
