I guess what I'm trying to say is, we can get the DDY material from his concerts and the Styx material not penned from DDY from their concerts but more of the new material because 70's and 80's material albeit good doesn't fit in with the new concert goer and that's what they need to attract, okay they can be like the Temptations/Four tops and tour every year doing the same old stuff but how long can that last, we're all getting older and they need new blood to make an impact......and guessing from the new Styx lineup thy don't want to be a memory activation band

I agree they do. I doubt however they will get it.

It's sadly a genre that is on a downward slope right now

Yep, Suite, you're right, but we can have our memories from CD and Styx or the new named band can drop a few in, but at the end of the day concert paying folk need new material and inovation, you and many alike in the US have probably had a good guess at the set list to each and every Styx concert, it's like a repeat on the TV.......how many times can you justify paying to hear the same old back catalogue with just a few new songs?

Wait, I just wanted to read this part again!! LOL

Just kidding, not too many people agree with me.

If the band continues on the same tour to the same cities, they really need to revamp everything. I totally agree with you. Back in 2003, they were here 7 times within a 1 1/2 hour drive from my house. Overall same set list, I think just one or two songs were changed. I sometimes wish that I was a huge fan of this line up, I would've had a blast going show to show to show, etc. - LOL

Now here's the punch line............I think Styx should ditch the band name..........

I could not agree with you more, styxman, but others here have made valid points regarding that.

Styx is trading on the name. Pure and simple.

Fans are going to shows to hear Styx, Styx music, and, though I agree with you and I feel they are quite different from what they were with Dennis, those fans want to hear the Styx catalog. So the "big" DDY songs have to stay.

This is the way of the world with all the touring nostalgia bands. They gotta play the hits. What brought the fans in in the first place.

My feeling is the UK folks who went to see this incarnation of Styx were thrilled and very happy with what they heard. People stayed away, though, because this is not the Styx they knew or remembered. (Personal opinion there. I have not asked anyone about this.)

JMHO.

It's 1am over here, so I'm signing off for a good nights sleep, it's been great talking sensibly to you melodic heavy weights....Suite please don't think I'm against DDY or trying to make any waves, it's just the longevity of the band that's in my thoughts, I'd like nothin' more for them to become the next U2.......because unlike most of the crap pushed out by record companies, these guys know how to play an instrument and incredibly well at that, even when it's spinning around.....Goodnight Sadie and Suite and Classic

Bugsy,

I know but wouldn't it be great to go to a new concert wondering who the hell are SZ2 and leaving afterwards saying that's a great new band...they kicked arse tonight, especially for their age....off to bed mate!

I hope you have a nice night and get a goods night sleep :) I'm just getting started tonight - LOL

That's okay if you were against him or couldn't stand him. We all have our opinions which makes great conversation :) I know you're not making waves :) I don't know if there will ever be any older bands that will become the next U2. I think INXS is becoming popular thanks to the Rock Star show and if Van Halen is on there next, they'll be making a HUGE comeback too. Styx will need some type of publicity similar to that. Just my opinion.

Yes, they all can play their instruments well, giggle giggle  LOL, you know guitars, drums, etc - LOL!!!! I just love teasing about the spinning keyboard. I do like Larry though as a person. Great guy.

Again, I hope you have a nice night and come back soon :)

Oh that would be awesome. Something I have been advocating for a long time. I might even become a fan!

Sweet dreams, styxman (SZ2man???)
