It would make that tune more special and he really doesn't NEED to be doing any of those really. He's Dennis DeYoung, not Styx- but I'm sure most will disagree. If he did a different Shaw song each night, that could be cool.
It's like if Paul McCartney's shows had a bunch of Lennon songs in them. He'll usually do a Lennon song and a Harrison song, but not 5 or 10. That makes those songs special. Since Dennis had the lions share of the Styx hits, he really doesn't need to do that other stuff- but it's his show, he can do what he wants. I think it makes it look like he needs the other guys which he doesn't. Same could be said for Styx and Dennis' songs, the difference being that Dennis had most of the hits with Styx, so if none of those were played, it'd be funky for them.

Which songs would be performed best unplugged from 100 years?

No, for all intensive purposes, he IS Styx.

It's funny you feel this way when Dennis does Tommy Shaw Styx tunes but when Gowan destroys Dennis Styx tunes you are all in,
Dennis is Styx Tommy is Styx Jy is Styx that's how you have to look at it. If Shaw sang Lady good for him . If Gowan sings it shame on him. If Dennis and his band now carry the STYX tourch I say it's about damn time,

Styx is still selling STYX. Dennis is selling DENNIS DEYOUNG SOLO ARTIST. That is the difference Froy.
Incorrect It's Dennis DeYoung and THE MUSIC OF STYX

But why promote Shaw, etc.? Makes no sense. Dennis doing HIS Styx songs is tons of Styx. I dunno, I think that 100 years coulda sold a lot more and I think he should promote it more. He certainly doesn't need to promote Renegade...
Plus, as a Styx fan, it'd sure be more fun to hear "Ballerina", "Father OSA", instead of Blue Collar Man at a Dennis show.
I go to a DDY show and see a former member of Styx with a bunch of studio musicians playing Styx songs. I go to a Styx show and see 2, sometimes 3, members from the Classic lineup playing Styx songs. I consider Todd to be a close since he was around with in '96 and '97 with Dennis in the group. John is dead anyway so he had to be replaced. Is it the same as Styx with Dennis? Nope. Do I still enjoy it more than current DDY? Yes!!Higgy wrote:Go to a DDY show then go to a current Styx show then ask yourself, which one was more of a "Styx" concert (in the 1977-1983 sense).

I'd rather see Dennis and his "studio musicians" who change things up once (or twice) in a while than see two or three from the "classic line up" play the same pretty stagnant show day in and day out![]()

Did you also forget Dennis wrote 75 percent of that stuff? And produced both albums

Change the subject then ehh?
I thought Dennis wrote and produced everything, giving the other guys a little credit here and there to make everybody happy.
So after many years the other guys in Styx simply had to let Dennis go,because they were feeling guilty about getting credits and pay for something they did not deserve.
Dennis moved on to making four solo discs that became multi million sellers, mega Broadway productions and a star on the walk of fame.
So everything worked out in the end.Ohh and now he can have Suzanne on stage with him, which he could not do with Styx.
It's a win win situ here froy.
Win win I say.
Or do you deep down admit that Dennis really isn't that good without the other guys after all.
Nah,,,you wouldn't admit to that now.Would you?
