The Browns fear that outside linebacker Chris Gocong injured his Achilles and is out for the season, sources told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Gocong, who was carted off the field, will undergo an MRI on Saturday.
"It would be a huge hit," linebacker D'Qwell Jackson told the Plain Dealer. "Chris is a great player."
I think Jimmy Haslam III might be calling Randy Lerner to ask for a refund pretty soon. Taylor and Gocong are done for at least most of the year (Gocong definitely done for the year, Taylor done for most of it). Then today, Haden is reportedly suspended for 4 games for drugs (reportedly, adderoll--wtf?) and Trent Richardson is flying out to Florida to have the same knee scoped AGAIN that he had scoped in February.
I was never that into the Trent Richardson draft pick (as usual, the idiot Cleveland fans around here drank the kool-aid). I thought the guy looked very average in college against good teams, he's had some injuries, and he's a goddamn RB for christ's sake. All that aside, I didn't like taking a RB that high anyway. He's got a low shelf life by virtue of position, and now the son of a bitch's knee has been scoped twice in 6 months before playing a single NFL down? I don't like it.
Anyway, I hope I'm totally wrong on Richardson. But I just have not had a good feeling about the pick from the start. It's going to be a rough start to the year with a pretty tough schedule (on paper though, and we all know how that goes), and if things are really ugly, I wouldn't be surprised to see Haslam send Shurmur, Holmgren, and Heckert packing by week 6 this year. I think (barring an unforeseeably great season by the Browns) that the only guy who has a chance long-term of surviving this ownership change is Tom Heckert.
I'm already mentally preparing myself for yet another detonation of the organization.
All that said, I can't fucking wait for week 1! This time of the year in sports (basically, from July 4, i.e., when Wimbledon ends through mid to late August) is particularly awful for me. It's even worse with these shitty Olympics on. That has to be the dumbest, most over-hyped thing in the entire world. I can't stand watching that shit (even the few sports I like), and I can't stand the deluge of phony human interest stories that they tell about every single fuckin athlete.
