9 Years Ago Today..................

Postby SuiteMadameBlue » Sun Jul 17, 2005 1:05 am

Rest in Peace John

http://www.styxnet.com/deyoung/styx/jp.html

Dear John I knew you
About as well as anyone
We were the wild ones
So sure those days would never end
Now they're only memories my friend

Dear John I'll see you
Some day again

I swear I saw you
On a crowded street today
I almost called your name
Thinking of all those yesterdays
Heaven help me
How I miss my friend

Dear John I'll see you
Some day again

There'll be a celebration
When all will be revealed
We'll have a reunion
High on a hill

Dear John how are you
God know it's heaven where you are
Find some peace there
May it never end

Dear John my heart knows
We'll meet again
Dear John I'll see you....
Some day again

I was thinking about JP the other day, listening to his drum work on the Wooden Nickel recordings.

The guy was just great, and I always enjoy seeing him in the old Styx vids -- big ol' white boy afro, and his very sweet demeanor, in his Navy whites.

Miss you, John.

He died too young, but he left an indelible mark with his work, and his wonderful personality and heart.

Im sure if John we here today we would not have this Styx mess that we are in . he would have never let it happen.

Very interesting point Froy, and one worth it's own thread.
Whose camp do you think John would of joined????
If the interviews are to be believed it was the lack of touring and band activity that led to his drink problems, so do you think he would have stayed with Dennis and gone down that road, I don't think so!!
IMO what the current line up is doing would have been right down Johns street, constant touring, heavy sound etc plus being with his brother during his illness.
To think that John could have prevented the break up is a little naive, it was inevitable, maybe it would have pushed him closer to the edge to see his brothers fighting so, we will never know
We as Styx fans have been denied the talents of one of our own, lets just hope modern medicine can keep Chuck with us for many years to come
JOHN P RIP

I remember hearing of John's passing on the radio news and feeling bad about it...I can tell he was a wonderful person by the way he was enjoying himself through his performances....

Here's to John, taken from us way too early....

I first heard at a Styx show in 1996. I wasn't really following the band very closely at the time and it came as quite a shock. At first I thought I had heard wrong when Dennis said they were going to play Show Me The Way for John. Definitely a bittersweet moment. If memory serves me right, it was within a week of his passing. I was so impressed that they were still able to take the stage and put on a heck of a show!

That seems to be C. Panozzo's view as well. I haven't seen him show up at any DDY concerts.

I have seen him at Styx shows and involved in each new Styx album as well as included in album photos.

Whether or not John would or wouldn't have sided with anyone is a total guessing game, with some educated guesses, and a whole lot of dartboard theory.

Still very sad that the man died so young, and still very grateful he left all of us a strong body of work to enjoy.

Right the lack of touring turned him in to a drunk
Thats probably the stupidist thing I have ever heard

Well, in BTM Tommy said John just couldn't put the bottle down. I don't know if all the touring in the world (or anything else, for that matter) can get an alcoholic to stop drinking. From what I understand, they have to acknowledge that they have a problem, and go from there. It's nothing that anyone else can fix. That's just what I've been told; I certainly have no expertise here.

Addictions/diseases are extremely hard to beat, and really do start with the person afflicted with the addiction/disease. Whatever brought John to his addiction, it is a shame he couldn't beat it.

Why don't you scroll up and see what I've said.

Other than calling you an ass, the only thing I've posted is two links about John's passing

What a shame this particular thread headed down this path......

The purpose was, I believe, to stop and remember John on the anniversary of his death. We did that for a while, before it turned into deciding whose side John would have been on had he lived, and why he was an alcoholic.

So in the end, a thread that was meant to be a tribute to John ends up ( in my opinion ) totally disrespecting him.

Carry on, I guess.....the damage is already done.
